The announcement from Dayton will start any minute. There’s a new rock star in town. Conservatives are full of Hope that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will bring much-needed Change to McCain Republicanism.
Catch the fever.
I’m starting a new thread and kicking off discussion with this YouTube ad from Palin supporters.
Yes, I’m impressed. Very impressed.

The official statement from McCain:
U.S. Senator John McCain today announced that he has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate and to serve as his vice president.
Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president. She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her Administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington.
Governor Palin has challenged the influence of the big oil companies while fighting for the development of new energy resources. She leads a state that matters to every one of us – Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent.
In Alaska, Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the “bridge to nowhere” that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.
As the head of Alaska’s National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops.
Governor Palin has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of. Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today.

The ACU raves:
CONSERVATIVES HAIL MCCAIN VICE PRESIDENTIAL PICK
(Minneapolis, MN) - David Keene, Chairman of the American Conservative Union, has issued the following statement on Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain’s pick of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate.
“The selection of Governor Palin is great news for conservatives, for the party and for the country. Her dedication to principle, her courage both before and after her election as Governor of Alaska and her personal qualities make her a perfect choice for Vice President. I predict any conservatives who have been lukewarm thus far in their support of the McCain candidacy will work their hearts out between now and November for the McCain - Palin ticket.”

Jennifer Rubin at PJM:
…Palin will argue that in fact Obama has no more experience than she does, and that Palin has the advantage of sharing McCain’s views (and thus being right) on the surge, Russian ambitions, and meetings with state terror sponsors. The VP debate against Biden may be dicey, but the McCain camp knows full well that a vice-presidential debate isn’t going to make or break their candidate. In short, McCain is hoping that Palin is good enough on this score for a number two pick against a Democratic ticket headed by a man with virtually the same meager national security credentials.
As to the second, Palin has much to offer McCain. On a non-political level few can doubt her Q-factor. (She will be the first former beauty queen to run on a national ticket.) The daughter of a teacher and mother of five, she has an ebullient personality and an excellent TV presence. The Right will be entranced : a pro-life hunter with a passion for domestic energy development? And in the battle for “change” she has the record of reform and the identity of a complete Washington outsider. Finally, as a lifelong NRA member, an outdoorswoman, and a western governor she may provide extra help in mountain and western states such as Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico which are certain to be in play.
On the policy front, Palin can make the case that the Democratic program of higher taxes, more spending, and a government takeover of health care is a proven loser. She will argue that she can bring practical experience from as far outside the Beltway as one can get. And, of course, the presence of a woman on the ticket creates instantaneous excitement and puts into play Clinton voters looking for a new champion.
The pick also tells us something about McCain: he thinks he can win. He was not willing to rock the boat with his conservative base. He can use Palin on offense to make a run at women voters and on defense to blunt the populist attacks from the Democrats. And it shows he understands the need to generate enthusiasm and “newness” in his own campaign.
Ed Morrissey: Change conservatives can believe in!
LifeNews has an excellent overview of Palin’s staunch, pro-life activism.

12:22pm Eastern. McCain: It is with great pride and gratitude that I tell you that I have the right partner for those who value their responsibilities over their privileges, someone who has fought corruption, stopped government from wasting taxpayers’ money…someone with executive experience, who has shown great tenacity and skill in tackling tough problems, especially our dependence on foreign oil, someone with strong principles, a fighting spirit, and deep compassion, someone who grew up in a decent, hard-working middle-class family…
Good stuff: “She knows when to stand up and doesn’t let anyone tell her to sit down…She’s exactly who I need, she’s exactly who this country needs…”
Really good.
The next vice president of the United States, Gov. Sarah Palin of the great state of Alaska.
Huge roar of applause. Huge.

And Hillary must be experiencing a schadenfreude-licious moment right now.
It’s McCain’s birthday and the Palins’ 20th anniversary today.

Why would you call that out just because someone is yanking Edelweiss’s chain? Who made you morally superior? Hitler’s mom go and touch your head or something?
You have given up eating I take it? Animals die for meat. We rip the ovaries off fruit trees. We chop the heads off lettuce…it’s not a big deal to me, but we even kill vegetables…
No sweat! The Dimsdale moniker comes from a Monty Python’s Flying Circus skit. Watched far too much of that in the 70’s (even worse, I have all the DVDs).
Ain’t that the truth! The more and louder they complain and fabricate rumors, all repeated with a frequency that would make Josef Goebbels proud, the more you can be sure that the choice was a good one.
Judging by the response on this site and others, McCain hit a home run, and simultaneously re-energized the base (okay, I am still not cool with Hernandez) and derailed Obama’s post convention bounce.
Sure - I knew everything when I was 24 too.
Hurricane Gustav is going to be a devastating hurricane - quite possibly worse than Katrina - I certainly hope not - but there is no avoiding it.
I agree, we need lots of prayer power on this one - and a lot better coordinated response that happened after Katrina.
I am also very excited about Sarah Palin as I have commented in other postings. It has been quite a week.
Obama’s address to 80,000 plus, the anouncement of Palin as VP choice the next day, but the
big story unfortunately will be Mother Nature in the next few days.
The Republican Convention, unfortunately will hardly be able to hold business as usual with this disaster occurring.
There are a large number of people in threat of losing their homes because of the storm….
I am new to this blog. As for the “candlepower” I possess - that’s a very good term.
I will not personally attack other commentors because of their views. But when commentors become insultive or offensive to other commentors - I will (sometimes - if I have the time and crazy enough to waste my time) take a stand on that.
Irish Rose - thanks for the support - but let’s both try and just ignore some of the commentors here who might have another “agenda” other than commenting about Michelle’s posts.
I was only apologizing for myself…since I’m part of this blog…whether you like it or not..I feel I need to make clear if I’m in agreement with certain behavior …or I’m not in agreement.
I did read Edelweiss’s comments on this post…hardly “vicious”….
Don’t worry…as far as the “false conservative” goes … if you yourself are running or you are helping directly in getting a fellow conservative elected to office this year…then you are not a “false conservative”…that just applies to people who run their mouth but really haven’t contributed any effort in helping get a conservative elected…
Speaking of good conservatives - such as John McCain and Sarah Palin…
I just watched McCain’s 2004 convention speech on C-Span - it was really good …that’s it for me tonight.
John McCain is a strong conservative? Wow. When did that happen joromima?
If a cat had kittens in the oven, would we call them biscuits? John McCain can call himself a conservative all day and that doesn’t make it so.
But at least he had the sense to find a conservative to be his vp.
By the way, I think this is the longest thread I have ever seen at this site. Does anyone know what the actual record is?
You do, joromina?
I believe anyone here can defend themselves without help…as for eidelweiss from my observations, he talks as though he is a foreigner who constantly derides America and American Conservatives while ignoring the fact his own EU doesn’t have the cahones to be that wonderful replacement for the US in terms of foreign policy or social/moral values when those issues do come up. That is his opinion, and he should have the skin thickness to bear criticism as do I.
AS far as I am concerned eidelweiss, lgm, et al are as welcome as you are to make a post…you should also have the thick skin to take what may come your way from those that do not agree with you partly or wholly.
Otherwise, Welcome.
I do find it interesting how much effort eidelweiss has gone into teaching us how we should vote in 2008…the socialist/dems must be really frightened ….wonderful!!!!
(If they weren’t upset, I’d be worried)
The hurricane is heading right for LA…looks like bush has learned NOTHING since 2005 and that he STILL hates blacks. He must also really hate McCain as well, what with manipulating the weather and using that weapong that creates hurricanes and such just in time for the RNC.
Must be part of his plan, just before he launches his coup to suspend the General Election and crown himself Lord God King High Hokie-Fanokie of the United States of Bush.
Don’t laugh, over at DU someone actually is claiming that the Republicans are planning on suspending the elections, and the rest has all been stated at one time or another by Liberals many times over in the last 8 years.
Except the Bush hates blacks thing. that has only been repeated for the last 3.
Also, they are already claiming that the only reason The Golden Calf will lose will be due to the Republicans stealing the election, voter intimidation, fraud, the electronic voter machines owned and operated by the “Repulithugs” etc.
I just wonder why all the claims of voter fraud and Republican manipulation and theft ceased the minute it appeared that the Dems won the Congress in 2006?
What happened? Did we forget to steal that one? Who was in charge that day? Did he get fired?
Good Video
Another one concerning Liberal Women’s Hypocrisy
And One About the Slight Against Hill-Dawg
What the liberals Are Saying Gotta love the repeated use of the really poorly photoshopped Vogue cover. Are they really just so stupid as to not know that is fake? Or are they just that desperate?
What Sarah ACTUALLY siad They just cannot help themselves. Their dishonesty os a serious mental disorder. Of course, like anything they claim, if they use the ENTIRE quote or video, it will always disprove the point they were attempting to make.
thanks for the links RetFireman
One more thing, and then I am off to bed.
Would someone please tell these idiots who keep screaming about “If you want an end to war, vote Odumbo” that a war is much easier to stop if, in fact, you are the one who started it. Stopping a war you did NOT start is called CAPITULATION i.e. SURRENDER.
We did NOT start this war. It was started years ago when OBL declared war on the United States, committed acts of war against us several times under Bill Clinton and culminated them all with the sucker-punch sneak attack on The World Trade Center, The Pentagon and a bunch of innocent woodland creatures in Pennsylvania when real Americans fought back and sacrificed their lives, keeping them from their original target of either The White House or The Capital almost 7 years to the day, 9-11-01. Were we to “quit” means we are surrendering to Islam and their War of Aggression and Against All That is not Islamic.
Seriously, this is High School Civics kids. It really is not hard. to not kow that this is the case is to admit that you are easily lead by the propaganda of Dhimmis and those that do not have the best interests of America or it’s population at heart.
Correction…stopping a war that has not been declared a victory in your favor…
I have a feeling that SOMEONE was going to need that clarification.
Up until now, with so much talk about Obama, you would have thought that he was the only one running. I was just plain sick of hearing his name, then along comes Sarah Palin to take the spotlight off of him for a while. He won’t know what to do with himself now that someone else will be getting all the attention. And that shot of her with the gun, man, that makes me so proud. A strong woman who isn’t afraid to get down and dirty.
I am so excited I could just scream. I can’t wait until the RNC.
McCain will in this election but he’s gotta run a clean, tight race. Palin has little room for error. God bless Sarah Palin!
I suggest you ask Sarah Palin if she thinks John McCain is a conservative.
I disagree with McCain on some issues…but I think that is going to be true for us all - in relation to any elected official - since they have to make decisions that affect everyone - across the political spectrum. If elected officials just vote their ideology - nothing will ever get done in DC.
Is a Mitt Romney or any other conservative Republican candidate - that much more conservative than McCain? There are differences between all of them - but they are all conservatives.
The election is only 66 days away.
I know a lot of people who comment on this blog think of themselves as “true conservatives”. I’d like to challenge them - to prove it - and comment here how they are not only helping the McCain/Palin ticket to win - but conservative-minded candidates in their own voting districts to win.
That is really the only true measure. Twofoot, you are right - just saying you are a conservative -does not make it so.
SHOCKER!!!
Who was pushing for Joe Lieberman the hardest?
Lindsay Graham, of course
Why are we not surprised.
joromima:
You don’t know idle vice’s posting history, therefore you are way off base on this one.
She comes here occasionally and never fails to lecture us with her smug euroweenie arrogance.
And she loves to kill babies. She boasts that in Europe, they are so much better at it than we Americans are.
Of course, they’ve had a lot more practice at it too, over the past century.
Atheling,
aahhh - forget it.
