U.S. Senator John McCain today announced that he has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate and to serve as his vice president.
Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president. She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her Administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington.

The VP debate against Biden may be dicey, but the McCain camp knows full well that a vice-presidential debate isn’t going to make or break their candidate. In short, McCain is hoping that Palin is good enough on this score for a number two pick against a Democratic ticket headed by a man with virtually the same meager national security credentials.
As to the second, Palin has much to offer McCain. On a non-political level few can doubt her Q-factor. (She will be the first former beauty queen to run on a national ticket.) The daughter of a teacher and mother of five, she has an ebullient personality and an excellent TV presence. The Right will be entranced : a pro-life hunter with a passion for domestic energy development? And in the battle for “change” she has the record of reform and the identity of a complete Washington outsider. Finally, as a lifelong NRA member, an outdoorswoman, and a western governor she may provide extra help in mountain and western states such as Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico which are certain to be in play.
On the policy front, Palin can make the case that the Democratic program of higher taxes, more spending, and a government takeover of health care is a proven loser. She will argue that she can bring practical experience from as far outside the Beltway as one can get. And, of course, the presence of a woman on the ticket creates instantaneous excitement and puts into play Clinton voters looking for a new champion.
The pick also tells us something about McCain: he thinks he can win. He was not willing to rock the boat with his conservative base. He can use Palin on offense to make a run at women voters and on defense to blunt the populist attacks from the Democrats. And it shows he understands the need to generate enthusiasm and “newness” in his own campaign.

I think there a lot of people right now that are projecting conservatism onto Sarah Palin. I asked this question during yesterday’s euphoria and I will asked it again. How do we know Sarah Palin is an actual conservative?
I am aware of her Pro-life position and her churchgoing, but I have heard nothing else of substance beyond other people’s opinions. Very little is known about the Governor beyond the cover story. I fear we are being set up for a big fall. The fact of the matter is McCain still hates conservatives and once we put him in The White House, he will slam the door right in our face.
Willow Rosenberg was a witch on Buffy, but didn’t really become one until Season 4, roughly 2000. Willow Palin is 14 years old – the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer didn’t start until 1997, and the movie didn’t have a character named Willow. Sorry I don’t have the link, but Gov. Palin has said that Willow comes from the name of a town in Alaska, and Piper comes from the fact that it’s a rare, cool name. Track comes from her and her husband’s love of the sport, Bristol for another area of Alaska, and so forth.

Wow Domsdale…Thanks. That was really nice of you to say and completely unexpected. Made me literally blush.
Couple of things:
1) The Palin children have all been named for places in Alaska. While the Libs may like to name their children after witches, the latest fad, and completely un-pronounceable strings of vowels that leave one scratching their head as to why their OB/GYN was allowed to administer that much pain medication while delivering a child, and other forms of honoring “Gaia”, the Palins have no hidden meaning to their childrens names other than they have places that mean something to them either from a memory or for it’s natural beauty, and thus named their children after them.
2)After reading the eloquent post above concerning Switzerland, I am again reminded that the Nazi Parachite Elite would climb the Alps, pick said flower and wear it in their uniform as a symbol denoting “True Warriors”. Even more apropo following that post. Gotta love that Jewish Gold that to this day, Switzerland refuses to release to it’s rightful owners following the Nazi pilaging between 1932-1945 and beyond.

Mayhaps Mr. Obama might consider getting his favorite preacher, his mentor and “Spiritual Advisor” as well as member of his family a dictionary where he would be able to see that the definition of “Literature” has to do with the WRITTEN word, quite literally put down on paper.
4) The bile is just getting started from the Left, and again…the simple fact that they are making things up shows that there is nothing there, as well as the fact that they are really, really worried both about even more TRUE filt coming out about their chosen false idol, bit that they are actually watching their chances of winning back the White house for possibly another 12 years blow up in their faces.

McCain and Palin will be in Mississippi tomorrow ahead of Gustav. Some may see this as PC, but it is what leaders should do. No doubt Obama will follow suit.
I am from Mississippi and have family there 120 mile inland. When President Nixon visited after the destruction of Camille (to the Coast) it touched many hearts, the same as when President Bush visited the Mississippi Coast.
Please pray for those in the path of Gustav. It is predicted that what was not destroyed by Katrina may be by Gustav in New Orleans. Baton Rouge and surrounding areas will have hurricane strength winds as well. The storm surge and winds will be east of the storm, the worst possible path for New Orleans and the Miss. Gulf Coast.
Governors Jindal of LA and Barbour of Mississippi are doing all they can to get people out of harms way. If they choose to stay in NO and in the path, they stay at their own risk.
I pray that this storm will be weakened, and people will be safe (unlike the despicable Michael Moore who hopes for destruction).
The GOP Convention is not going to be about speeches and fluff, it is going to be dealing with this storm and helping fellow Americans.
May God show mercy on the people of Mississippi and Louisiana.
