U.S. Senator John McCain today announced that he has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate and to serve as his vice president.

Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president. She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her Administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington.

Governor Palin has challenged the influence of the big oil companies while fighting for the development of new energy resources. She leads a state that matters to every one of us – Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent.

In Alaska, Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the “bridge to nowhere” that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.

As the head of Alaska’s National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops.

…Palin will argue that in fact Obama has no more experience than she does, and that Palin has the advantage of sharing McCain’s views (and thus being right) on the surge, Russian ambitions, and meetings with state terror sponsors. The VP debate against Biden may be dicey, but the McCain camp knows full well that a vice-presidential debate isn’t going to make or break their candidate. In short, McCain is hoping that Palin is good enough on this score for a number two pick against a Democratic ticket headed by a man with virtually the same meager national security credentials.

As to the second, Palin has much to offer McCain. On a non-political level few can doubt her Q-factor. (She will be the first former beauty queen to run on a national ticket.) The daughter of a teacher and mother of five, she has an ebullient personality and an excellent TV presence. The Right will be entranced : a pro-life hunter with a passion for domestic energy development? And in the battle for “change” she has the record of reform and the identity of a complete Washington outsider. Finally, as a lifelong NRA member, an outdoorswoman, and a western governor she may provide extra help in mountain and western states such as Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico which are certain to be in play.

On the policy front, Palin can make the case that the Democratic program of higher taxes, more spending, and a government takeover of health care is a proven loser. She will argue that she can bring practical experience from as far outside the Beltway as one can get. And, of course, the presence of a woman on the ticket creates instantaneous excitement and puts into play Clinton voters looking for a new champion.

The pick also tells us something about McCain: he thinks he can win. He was not willing to rock the boat with his conservative base. He can use Palin on offense to make a run at women voters and on defense to blunt the populist attacks from the Democrats. And it shows he understands the need to generate enthusiasm and “newness” in his own campaign.

Do you pride your self on being ignorant or are you simply misinformed. What Obama REALLY said was Iran was a tiny country compared to the Soviet Union. He said the Soviet Union was an existential threat to the US, what with an arsenal of thousands of Nuclear weapons and an army to rival the US. Iran is a country without a single nuclear weapon and an army a tiny fraction of the size of the US. If the US were to fight Iran we would destroy them in about the same time it took to take over Iraq, maybe a couple more days. We talked to the Soviet Union, so why can’t we talk to Iran? We have power over them. Iran is like the little kid in class who talks tough but the second you confront them they wimper away in fear. What the Repubs are doing is pumping them up to be a big bad threat to us. If we wanted we could wipe away any nuclear reactors they have in one fell swoop.

Now we are going to be going into the RNC, we have Palin as the pick for Rep. VP whish has arguably been greeted with enthusiasm from Republicans as well as disenfranchised Hill-Dawg supporters PLUS it completely obliterated The Golden Calf from the news the day after his speech going into the weekend prior to the RNC.

If the Left wants to believe that Obama/Biden will still be in the lead come this time next week, then I think they need to get a new supplier.

Yes, there are huge differences between the two countries. The Soviet Union was intent on spreading its communist ideology across the globe. Iran has no such ambitions. This is a far more dangerous and real threat than the Soviet union ever was. there were no “Eternal Sexit Rewards” to be handed out to the Politburo following a nuclear war with the U.S. and subsequent annihilation of Russia. Ahmadenijad, however, believes fully that he will be rewarded eternally by his moon god for bringing about the “End of Days”, destroying Israel in a “Ball of Fire”, and has absolutely no fear of his or anyone else’s death.

What reasoning can be done with anyone who has no fear of reprisals or even death?

If this is a concept that is just too difficult for you do understand, than it would be best that you just not comment on it, for every time you do so, you only expose your ignorance and more to all readers.

Perhaps you (and Obama) are unaware that Iran sits atop a narrow piece of water called the Strait of Hormuz?

You know, this small area where much of the oil that is used by the world (including America) comes through? Oil from places like Saudi Arabia…

Even though Iran is tiny, they could easily shut that down, cutting off the world’s oil supply.

No oil = no economy

And if taking on a country is no problem, why are we still fighting in Iraq & Afghanistan years later? There is a lot more to war than “We big, we win”.

Furthermore, they want the power to dominate all of the other Middle Eastern countries, taking control of the world’s oil. Which is why, if we had followed Obama’s advice and retreated from Iraq before stabilizing it, Iran would take over and hold even more control over the world’s oil supply.

And yes, they are determined to get their hands on a nuke. Unlike the Soviet Union, who we could deter through reason & force, these people are religious fanatics who do not care about death – which is why they fightt with suicide bombers.

Controlling game animal populations through hunting is an important part of responsible wildlife management.

I really would hate to think it was, and personally feel that anyone who actually considers abortion to be just that has serious mental issues. I know women who have had abortions, for varied reasons, and not a single one of them are comfortable with what happened, they all were traumatized emotionally by it and would never go through them again.

As a male, i honestly don’t feel I have much of a say in the matter, because let’s face it…a woman is the one who has to live with whatever decision she makes for the rest of her llife…guys can actually never even know about it…although I do have my opinion. Also, having three daughters, i hipe to God i am never forced to come face to face with my convictions, not for me, but because it would mean one of them were to be having a child way too early.

This, however, has been a big issue in every elections, and should people actually come to the point where they refuse to vote for an incredibly qualified candidate simply on this one issue does a great injustice to all the other issues that the person can do some really good with.

I just want to know one thing from the pro-deathers:

At what point do they think that a soul enters the body?

If, in fact, they even believe in a soul.

Me? I cannot imagine a body that does not have a soul at any point until they draw their final breath. I seriously just can’t picture one leaping in at the last minute before birth.

Also, if a murderer can be charged with double homicide for killing a woman who is pregnant, then how can that same pregnancy be considered “Just Tissue” if there was an abortion involved instead?

I know, WAAAAAY OT, but I got on a rant.
