The McCain VP choice: Not Huck, Romney, Pawlenty, or Palin(?); Palin buzz alive, multiple sources confirm

Is this it?
Scroll for updates…
It’s not Huckabee. It’s not Romney. It’s not Pawlenty.
Here’s the case for Sarah Palin. The rumors of a chartered plane leaving from Alaska have been flying around.
Hey, let’s just hope it’s not Juan Hernandez.
9:05am Eastern. Not Palin. She’s in Alaska, acc. to ABC.
Here’s the rest of the female shortlist.
Via the Dayton Daily News:
A Gulfstream IV jet owned by a firm in Kirkland, Wash., landed at Hook Field Municipal Airport late Thursday night is believed to have had Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on board as a passenger.
National media outlets have identified the first-term Alaska governor, the first woman elected to the position, as a possible vice presidential candidate for Arizona Sen. John McCain, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.
McCain is in Dayton today and is expected to announce his running mate sometime later today at the Nutter Center at Wright State University.
According to Rich Bevis of B&B Aero, the fixed-based operator at Hook Field, the jet, a Gulfstream IV which has the flight range to fly from Alaska to Europe, landed at about 10:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28.
Bevis said the woman “was a real close match to Palin” and added that the flight crew that’s based in the Seattle area was told to fly to Anchorage to pick up their party and fly to Middletown.
Could it be Carly Fiorina?
CNBC has a source telling them it’s Palin.
Club for Growth gives thumbs up:
With all the talk about Sarah Palin being picked for vice-president, the Club for Growth PAC described the Alaska Governor as a genuine reformer who has taken on wasteful spending in her own state.
“At a time when many Republicans are still clinging to pork-barrel politics, Governor Palin has quickly become a leader on this issue,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “She is a principled reformer who understands how badly wasteful spending has marred the Republican brand.”
Governor Palin has proven herself to be a reformer unafraid to take on the establishment, which she did early on when she took on the incumbent Republican governor of Alaska in 2006. Only nine months in office, Governor Palin instructed the state to abandon the notorious pork project secured by Alaska’s politicians, the $223 million “Bridge to Nowhere.” While many Republicans in Congress are afraid to antagonize Washington’s biggest porkers, Sarah Palin stood strong for fiscal responsibility. Palin is also a persistent advocate of drilling in ANWR and expanding America’s domestic oil supply in general.
Here’s the Palin for VP blog.
Another source tells the Chicago Trib that it’s Palin:
A Republican source confirms that John McCain has chosen Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate. Campaign officials, however, remain mum this morning.
McCain is expected to announce his choice at a rally in Dayton later.
Palin is the first woman governor of Alaska, elected in 2006. She was also the youngest ever elected at the age of 42. She is the mother of five children, the youngest of whom was born in April and has Down’s Syndrome. She ran on a clean government platform in ‘06 to defeat the incumbent Republican Governor Frank Murkowski.
Allah’s woozy.
Levin is on board.
***
Palin is solid on life issues, taxes, fiscal conservatism, energy, and the environment. Readers are asking me what Palin’s stance on immigration is. According to the On the Issues website, she has no recorded stance on immigration.
Here’s a case against Palin.
More reax from grass-roots conservatives:
“”Conservatives will be thrilled with this pick. Governor Palin is a down the line mainstream conservative who will energize the base and reach across party lines attracting women voters, independents and blue collar Democrats. With almost one fourth of women voters undecided, Senator McCain has made a brilliant choice by picking a blue collar conserviatve woman who will excite the Republican Party and lay out the welcome matt for independents and disaffected Clinton voters.
“Governor Palin is a terrific contrast to the all Washington ticket of Obama-Biden. She is a wonderful contrast to Biden, and a truly outside the beltway pick. Looks like the glass ceiling has been broken not by Hillary Clinton but by Senator McCain and Governor Palin.”

Palin – game, set, match!
I wish he’d pick you, michelle. but if not, Palin is about the best he can do. although he really wants to pick his old buddy joe lieberman. but he knows to do that is to blow any chance he has.
Hey, if it isn’t going to be Mitt Romney or Fred Thompson…
Reading the case for Sarah Palin made me feel better about voting for McCain, if indeed she is his VP choice.
Palin is a good pick. Maybe she can help open ANWR for drilling?
Does anyone have any insight into her standing on illegal immigration? Amnesty?
Palin would put him over the top, but I’d feel better about Mitt considering his economic background.
and she’s a lot easier to look at than biden…its better to look good than be good, but if you can be both….
Now that would be fun!
A Palin Choice would certainly change the media coverage away from Obama.
But will it aid his election?
Probably as much as anybody McCain could chose.
That would be REAL change. Now, is there any real hope?
Please be Palin!
Palin sort of mutes the inexperience mantra, but she still have far more experience than Obama.
I have heard good things about Palin.
Where is it posted that the VP is not Romney nor Huckster? I have only seen that Pawlenty said he is not the VP.
How much puking can a person endure, please choose wisely grasshopper. my body is getting weak.
Yes, I thought it was funny that Bob Beckel actually brought that up, considering his guy has even less experience.
I heard it from Carl Cameron first, but it’s also on Drudge.
I have felt that Palin was a no-brainer ever since I first read about her. Anyone else would be a dud or an exorcist.
If you are interested the line at InTrade has Palin as a lock. Romney was at 69 yesterday and collapsed overnight. Palin came out of nowhere (insider trading)
My money would definitely be on Palin.
I think it would be damn tough for a candidate to go on the road with a six-month-old with Down’s Syndrome, but if she can, more power to her. More to the point, is there any evidence that she’s been interviewed and vetted?
I hope he picks Mitt. Flip and Flop. The 60 Million Dollar Campaign. That guys closed more factories than McCain has houses….
I just heard of Palin, but so far she looks votable enough to cover up John’s stink as I pull the lever.
still.. it’s VP..
sits in the senate, hoping for a tie..
OTOH.. the experience she has IS in the executive branch..
From what I understand of her, I think her BS meter is in tune which will help with Biden going off the cuff, talking circles..
The Spy has me convinced she’d be a great choice.
Talk about pandering,He did this for one reason, She is not ready to lead on day one, if something happens to McIdiot…
Palin & Jindal have to do their jobs. Both are just beginning to gain important executive experience that will give them the opportunity to develop their leadership skills. Neither should be wasted shoring up the McCain campaign. I hope Palin can transform the AK Republican party that still thinks Stevens & Young are acceptable candidates. God knows, Jindal has his work set out before him. No, let McCain find someone else to put in the pictures. I think, I hope, that Jindal & Palin are the seeds of a new Republican party, a party that will return to basic principles. Their days are in front of them.
I certainly didn’t think McCain would choose Sarah Palin.
but for some reason my heart started beating louder when I read Drudge and now Malkin this morning.
The election will now turn to a higher gear…and Oh so much fun ahead.
Sarah Palin?
PS: nobody’s noted it here yet (maybe its old news) but Pawlenty told NPR that he’s going to be at the state fair this afternoon, not in Ohio.
Sarah Palin is a former beauty queen and has very high favorability ratings as Governor of Alaska.
navywife, I saw that on Drudge as well, but it just says “No Romney” without a statement like Pawlenty’s (who I was starting to like).
Starting to wonder at all the head fakes. You have to hand it to McCain, he can keep a secret.
I have been praying McCain will choose wisely. I hope he has.
The possibility of voting for McCain without the need to get drunk looms?
A female VEEP pick is a cinch and a lock for republicans. From the looks of Palin, she is definitley 100% FEMALE. Obummer, on the other hand, is 50% black. Kinda weakens the mantra “first black presidential nominee…
Yes. Yes. I’ve been screaming about Palin for months. McCain may finally give me a reason to vote for him.
I don’t know much about Palin other than her stance on energy, which I’d like. That pick may allow me to hold my nose and pull the lever for McCain.
For Romney, I would hold my nose and pull the lever for McCain.
For Lieberman, Hernandez and Clinton, I would gag and write-in rather than vote for McCain.
From McCain’s clouded view of the situation, Hillary Clinton must look like a really good pick! Since she is a woman, got 18 million votes and allows McCain to “cross the aisle” to “my friends”. Let’s hope McCain doesn’t pull the “real” maverick pick by picking Hillary Clinton!
I just saw on Boortz that Palin signed a big pipeline contract Wednesday with a Canadian company to bring natural gas off the north slope. She gets up early in the morning to go moose hunting. She sued the Bush admin for putting the polar bear on the endangered species list. She has more gravitas than most repubs. Let Biden show his arrogance against her in a debate and torque off all the women voters. Let the fun begin.
Any bets on whther it might be ex-lt. governor (Md) Steele?
August 29, 2008 8:54 AM
ABC News’ Kate McCarthy Reports: As vice presidential speculation swirls, Gov. Sarah Palin is watching the fireworks from her home in Wasilla, Alaska.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is in Dayton, Ohio, awaiting a high noon event at which the campaign has said the Republican contender will announce his running mate.
Plain is a strong conservative. Not to be a sexist but she’s also easy on the eyes.
A showdown with a moose before breakfast makes Biden hunting look like childs play!
If it’s true, quick, get a camera on Hillary! I want to see her head explode when she realizes she has to truly help Obama win now because she can’t have another woman be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
It would truly be a Wicked Witch of the West moment… “Help, I’m melting… into irrelevancy.”
Me too! Everything I’ve learned about Palin so far, I’ve liked.
Palin does’t have to be in Ohio with John to accept, does she?
I still am afraid of Joe Liberalman…
I don’t think she does, but the candidate usually wants the photo-op of them with their VP Pick when announced!
once again, affirmative action trumps proven ability. mrs palin has only two credits to her life, but when she wears a bra, they don’t show. mitt romney has everything the so called christian right says it wants. long marriage to same woman, large family, successful education and business. oh, but did i mention he’s MORMON. and we think the shia vs the sunni are screwed up.
I wish.
ABC is saying Palin is still in Alaska.
MSM is spinning out of control.
Last night, I went to bed thinking Pawlenty looks good, seems conservative, etc.
This morning, Palin looks good.
Let’s face it, anyone looks better than some of the suggestions like Ridge, Lieberman (I like Joe, but not as VP), Graham, the Huckster.
Palin has a lot of people excited. I hope she is the one today.
Did someone say Palin has a kid with Downs syndrome? Are those the kids Dems want to exterminate before birth? What would this personal story do for the dems?
I think your statement actually proves that you’re screwed up.
I don’t care about Mit’s economic experience. The most important things for a president to remember about the economy is that for the government to give anybody anything, they must first take it from someone else.
The funniest part will be how fast the MSM drops Obamalamadingdong after the election:)
On Nov. 5 it becomes the historic 2012 election of Palin vs. Clinton
If it’s Palin, not only will I enthusiastically support the McCain candidacy, but I intend to make the lives of each and every left-wing loon that surrounds me UTTERLY miserable for the next two months.
My collie says:
I think ABC is hoping Palin is in Alaska getting ready to hunt for Moose. No one really knows for sure.
Not Romney? That lets the air out of my balloon.
The collie is right again!
I’m a Idaho guy. A moose hunting gal will be a great Biden blaster.
By the way, it’s been reported that Romney is in Boston right now.
Palin would get my vote – but with the RINO, you never know until it’s offical.
My first choice and the choice that would entice me, a Conservative, to vote for McCain would be Mitt Romney.
Although, my vote never counts for much since NY State always goes Democrat in every election!
I approve of this choice! I hope McCain picks her.
I think McCain is desperate enough to choose Lieberman.
I like Romney too, but I think he would be more effective in a cabinet position where he would actually be doing something.
McCain’s VP pick is irrelevant if McCain doesn’t get the nomination.
For once, we are in agreement.
I am going to leave it to y’all to figure this one out as I have laps to swim and other things to do before noon. I will be listening to Rush today.
With all the rare POSITIVE comments about the VP being Palin, I hope it is not a giant fake and, then, drumroll please, meet VP Ridge. Ack!
That type of move would deflate the entire GOP. I am ready to get behind McCain if he chooses someone we can support.
God help us.
Even Joe Lieberman says McCain shouldn’t choose him, because even he knows he would be poison. I like Lieberman. He’s probably about as good a Congressman as we could expect from a place as liberal as Connecticut. But he’s still a liberal who supports the war.
Errah is anyone watching Lindsey Gramnesty’s house?
Hey McCain
Are you and your strategist reading this bog? Do you see the excitement here? Do something right and pick Palin.
Thanks for that update NC Blue, I hope you don’t mind I used it and quoted you on my post today.
Thanks what a beautiful day if it is Palin!
Sarah Palin?
Let’s not forget Tom Ridge. He would be just as bad as Lieberman.
Today, McCain will either win or lose this election.
Never has a VP choice been so important.
Imagine the ickiness factor when Biden uses plagiarized lines to attack her unfairly. He’ll look like an abusive husband.
Please be Palin! John could e-conference his pick with her. Would be kinda hip, doncha think?
Don’t believe anything until it is official. McCain is obviously playing games with us to keep the media from talking about Obama and staying focused on McCain.
A pretty smart move. Now don’t blow it, McCain…
Always thought Lindsay Graham. As Obama might say, Let me be clear — I’ve said that all along. Graham by his side from the beginning, they get along very well, both moderate Senators, I wouldn’t be surprised at all. Not at all.
Did anyone hear Chris Matthews refer to Condelezza Rice and Powell as “Showcase Appointments?”
The brief period of time this morning that I have thought it might be Sarah Palin is the only excitement I have had for the McCain campaign….if it turns out it isn’t her, I’m back trying to get drunk enough to vote for McCain.
Michelle AP news is reporting that a close McCain confidant said it is Palin
McCain Camp; Hey, let’s wait and see who the base really likes and then POW!, right in the kisser! There’s nobody that can yank a rug out from under the base like McCain er…ahh..my freinds.
I did not, but even if he did say it, he’s a big lib and would get a pass.
freinds oughta be friends.
I’m doubting the ABC bit about she is watching coverage in Alaska … there is a 5 hour time difference between EST and Alaska … so when ABC said that at around 7 something AM EST it was 2 something AM in Alaska … gimme a break here folks … I don’t think they can honestly make a statement like that with any veracity …
We’ll know in about 2 1/2 hours … until then everything is just guessing and speculation that means nothing …
Palin has more executive experience than BO and Biden and even McCain … although military command is a form of executive administrative experience …
Talk about irony … if saying anything against BO is racist then saying anything against Palin would have to be considered sexist …
This next couple of months could be a lot of fun if she is the VP Nominee …
Let the fun begin …
Is there a point to these posts other than to prove how wrong blogs can be?
Don’t think me a crazy conspiracy nutjob, but do you think that there is any chance that Palin’s publicist is only saying that she’s still in Alaska while Palin is in Ohio in order to help McCain’s announcment?
Well now that all bets are off here are my choices:
Whitman, Patreus, Cantor, Condi, Powell.
Seems to me that Palin and Jindal (in either order) are next cycles choices.
Gene
We’re getting our info from the media, so I don’t think you can lay the blame on blogs.
Interesting news item on McCain site. Thinks this tips us off?
Palin/Jindal ‘12
FTW
I think Condelezza Rice has too much baggage being in the Bush Administration. It will add to the “Bush’s third term”.
I dislike Colin Powell and think he will be a terrible pick. He is pretty much pulled a Wesley Clark. Again, he also has baggage.
Neither would be palatable to conservatives.
navywife91 said:
If he said it, he will get a pass simply for the fact that no one heard it. Who watches Chris Matthews?
navywife, my point is mrs palin is a short term governor from a state where 3 people live. we criticize barry for inexperience, and pick someone more inexperienced to POTENTIALLY be the president. and we do this because politically mccain wants to seduce disaffected women voters who are dissaffected because the dems chose a bigger affirmative action candidate than the woman. the conservative christian right won’t support romney, who would of course have been a far superior presidential candidate, but he’s MORMON and our baptist CHRISTIANS can’t tolerate that despite romney living and exemplifying the VALUES they espouse. sure there are some crazy cult mormons out there marrying 5 young girls etc. that’s not romney. just as 90% of all crips and bloods are baptists, but no one says baptists are lunatic murdering thugs. that is what i meant about shia vs sunni.
I believe he/she was referring to cabinet appointments, not picks for VP.
I told dh this week that my vote would come down to the VP pick. I was not happy with McCain (to put it mildly), but his Saddleback appearance had me rethinking my strong stand against him. Cantor was my home state sentimental favorite for VP, but I’d be just as happy with Palin or Jindal.
John McCain, you have a chance to make me eat those words I said about never voting for you.
It should be noted that if two years as the governor of the least-populated, most-federally-subsidized state in the union gives Palin the experience to be one heartbeat away from the presidency, the Obabama is qualified to be emperor of the earth.
My bad. I should have been more specific in my comment. I find this statement very offensive and I don’t offend easily.
Where is Condeleezza?
Good point.
Palin would be an outstanding strategic pick, and true to form for a “maverick”.
It would take a ton of wind out of Obama’s “historic” sails, send a signal to the disaffected Hillary supporters, placate the right by putting a pro life candidate on the ticket, and would emphasize McCain’s reputation as a reformer. And she has more executive experience than either Obama or Biden. She flat out knows how to get things done.
sorry, i’m not only singling out baptists, catholics have a rep for pedophilia, and i rarely hear catholics described in derogatory terms associated with that derangement. it’s always a case by case deal. but with mormons, it’s always the 150 year ago reputation, not reality.
Minor I know, but really, does McCain have to announce his running mate at a place named the Nutter Center of all things?
