A Gulfstream IV jet owned by a firm in Kirkland, Wash., landed at Hook Field Municipal Airport late Thursday night is believed to have had Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on board as a passenger.
National media outlets have identified the first-term Alaska governor, the first woman elected to the position, as a possible vice presidential candidate for Arizona Sen. John McCain, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.
McCain is in Dayton today and is expected to announce his running mate sometime later today at the Nutter Center at Wright State University.
According to Rich Bevis of B&B Aero, the fixed-based operator at Hook Field, the jet, a Gulfstream IV which has the flight range to fly from Alaska to Europe, landed at about 10:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28.
Bevis said the woman “was a real close match to Palin” and added that the flight crew that’s based in the Seattle area was told to fly to Anchorage to pick up their party and fly to Middletown.

A Republican source confirms that John McCain has chosen Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate. Campaign officials, however, remain mum this morning.
McCain is expected to announce his choice at a rally in Dayton later.
Palin is the first woman governor of Alaska, elected in 2006. She was also the youngest ever elected at the age of 42. She is the mother of five children, the youngest of whom was born in April and has Down’s Syndrome. She ran on a clean government platform in ‘06 to defeat the incumbent Republican Governor Frank Murkowski.

You are probably right, now that I re-read it. Although a VP is kind of an appointment, you can only vote for the ticket and not who gets to be VP. Not like in the old days when the loser for President automatically became the VP.
I still think that Colin Powell should have no place in any cabinet position. Petraeus would be excellent as Dept. of Defense.
But, see, Palin’s pro-life and conservative. Therefore, it’s perfectly acceptable to attack her because she isn’t a liberal Democrat.
Look how close Pelosi is and she isn’t fit/qualified to lead a flock of ducks.

Yeah, I believe Mormonism is not a legitimate form of Christianity (due to significant doctrinal differences), but I recognize that most Mormons are very good people. Romney also happens to be a smart, qualified, experienced, etc man. I would vote for him.
I would also like to see a cite on that tripe about 90% of crips and bloods being Baptists.

my understanding is that it could be the ex-CEO of Ebay. Not sure how conservative she is, but we would surely need someone with political gravitas and economic leadership under McCain.

What qualifies you to be VP, cheapseat?
I don’t think Palin would be a good pick. The VP is a heartbeat away from the presidency. What kind of qualifications does she have to be President if something should happen to McCain? Very inexperienced.
Here is my pick. He is reliably conservative, deeply religious, from a state Republicans need to carry, has 18 years of experience in the Senate, has a working class ethnic background, can relate to working folks and is not a high fallutin Ivy League snob like the Obamas. In addition, he knows how to bowl, eat Philly cheese steaks and he would never touch arugula. If you haven’t guessed it already, I am referring to Al D’Amato.
I think I am way ahead of the curve on this one.

While Gov Palin does have excecutive experience, no matter what the size of the state or populace.
we have three senators, 1 with little to no experience as a senator on the top of the Dem ticket. Who has not held a position longer than 3 years and never accomplished or lived up to his talents. the other senator at the top of the ticket has held only 3 jobs in his life Navy, Congress and Senate. His last job has been for 20+ years. He has accomplishments, lived up to and beyond his talents.
Governor Palin no matter what you say, has far more accomplishments than the Dems top ticket candidate. She has a lot more executive experience no matter how short her time as a Governor.

I’m a member of a large Southern Baptist church, wife of a Southern Baptist deacon. I have never heard anyone say they would not vote Romney because of his religion. Romney wouldn’t be my first choice, but it has nothing to do with his religion. Hey, I said several posts back that Cantor is my first choice, with Palin and Jindal strong runners-up. Not an evangelical among the bunch — but that’s okay, I like their values, their political philosphies, their stands on issues.
When all those MSM stories began circulating about how evangelicals would not vote for Romney, I asked my mom (member of an independent fundamentalist church who commented when we joined the Southern Baptists, “Aren’t they kind of liberal?”) if she would refuse to vote for Romney because of his religion. She gave me one of those mom-looks, and said, “Of course not.”
Normally, I’d probably agree with you. But considering McCain’s age and how much he’s screwed up royally with the conservative base, his VP pick is of enormous importance.
If this election was about becoming an office manager, Palin would be, by far, the more qualified. But presidential elections are about far more than spreadsheets.
And, if management skills are the test, the contrast between the sleek, well-oiled Obama campaign and McCain’s rattling old jalopy are particularly illuminating.

From what I’ve read about Sarah Palin, provided she doesn’t have any “skeletons” in her closet, she’d be a great choice who would appeal to not only a large female base – non-feminists in other words – but also many of the men who still cling to their rifles and bibles.
Shoot – she has more executive expericence then the “anointed one” and would bring a breath of fresh air to the campaign.

That being said, and to be fair, none of the choices were very good this year. Yeah, Mitt was okay, but he never seemed to have the requisite fire in his belly. He was nice and had a strong chin (imagine him playing Batman) but that was about it. He was never able to sell his acumen as a business man. He was no Reagan. Sorry. As a candidate he would just have been another nice-guy Republican who was no match for the world, and we’ve already done that. Never again.

I like Palin a great deal but am against McCain distracting her from her present path. She might be an important part of the future and should not be used up now. Becoming a Washingtonian at this point in her career would be counterproductive? A piddling matter, yes, but enough for the Dems to try to garrote her with, at least until it is cleared up.
