Not-lifelong-Republican John Lott addresses Obama’s gun rights record
Obama knows he’s weak on guns. Real weak. He’s setting up a bunch of “lifelong Republicans” and astroturf Zumbos* like the American Hunters’ Arms Are For Hugging to vouch for him, but he’s not fooling anybody who doesn’t want to be fooled.
Least of all a former-liberal scholar named John Lott, who knows quite a bit about the social science of the Second Amendment and zeroes in on the candidate’s evasions:
A candidate questionnaire shows that Mr. Obama supported a ban on handguns in 1996. In 1998, he backed a ban on the sale of all semiautomatic guns (a ban that would encompass the vast majority of guns sold in the U.S.) In 2004, he advocated banning gun sales within five miles of a school or park (essentially a ban on all guns sold in almost all the states). Possibly, even more importantly, he served on the board of the Joyce Foundation, probably the largest private funder of anti-gun and pro-ban groups and research in the country.
The Obama campaign “flatly denied” the 1996 statement supporting a ban on handguns, blaming it instead on a staffer from his state senate race who they said had incorrectly filled out the candidate questionnaire. But the Politico obtained a copy of the statement and found Mr. Obama’s own handwritten notes on it indicating that he had personally checked and corrected answers.
Me, I’m waiting for the inevitable shooting-related Obama photo-op somewhere that will prove he’s really a common, well-grounded fellow who knows his breech from his muzzle. What will it be? Duck hunting? Skeet? Rimfire rifles with the Boy Scouts? Whatever it is, the photoshoppers are gearing up…
And whatever it is, I hope the injuries are minimal.

Obama has flat-out lied on his support for gun owners. The thing that stands out most in my mind is support for the DC gun ban until the Supreme Court overturned. He then said that he didn’t support it. Anyone who hasn’t read it, I strong recommend the book More Guns, Less Crime that ArizonaNeanderthal linked to at #10. It was enough for a friend to change his position on gun control. It is filled with facts (you know, those things liberals hate and want to silence) and studies that prove gun control does not work.
Let me get this strait.

I would really fear for anyone around the Obamessiah should he decide to demonstrate his shooting abilities but, then again he does have a unique ability to only shoot himself in the foot lately.
The NRA has had the scoop out on how the Obamessiah has worked tirelessly to take guns out of the hands of law bidding citizens for a while now. The states that do allow them to be possessed allow that a $200 tax stamp is required, along with a letter from the chief law enforcement officer of your place of residence, a thorough criminal records check, and federal application form to BATFE.

The NRA has already placed the hypocrisy cross-hairs on Barry’s dubious claims of gun support. In fact, checking Barry’s official campaign Web site, his gun stance is rather weak both in terms of support and in detail.
Once Barry and Biden’s anti-gun (don’t want people to be able to defend themselves) attitudes are widely known, I think their media-assisted status will turn to doo-doo, it’s natural state, very quickly.
I’d love to see that photo-op of BHO… as clueless as most libs are about firearms, I picture Katie, John, and Brian out there ready to catch all the actions as Obama makes his first kill with a .177 rifle while mushroom hunting.

Not to argue the point, but a .577 Nitro Express is a double rifle, and that clown is shooting a single bbl bolt action rifle. Having worked in the ammo manufacturing sector, and loaded (and shot) ammunition for everything up to .600 Nitro Express, I can say I’ve never seen a bolt action rifle for a cartridge that large, that doesn’t have a muzzlebrake to reduce recoil.

That’s what it was identified as in the video, right-on. I load my own and have for years too, but the industry has come up with crazier things than a bolt action .577 before. Who would have thought there’d be a bolt action .50mg?

I live in So Cal. If we all gave up our guns the only ones left with guns would be the gang bangers. Many of the illegal. Almost everyday we have innocence bystanders killed because of drive by shootings. Maybe we could outlaw cars as well as guns and that will solve the problem.
As far as I am concerned, any politician who votes on any of our basic rights should be recalled, impeached, or voted out of office.
When politicians go into office for the sole purpose of modifying our rights, they are only there to inhibit. They are not there to “protect” us. That is the job of police, fire, military, etc. NOT the politician.
Everyone should enjoy the freedoms we instill. Ms. Malkin and we are enjoying both Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Press right now. Right now.
I have no problem for anyone here to file for a gun license for concealed weapons. I have no problem for anyone here going to get a handgun, assult rifle, or even and M-79 grenade launcher. You do have the right to own these and can file to get the paperwork.
