Andrew Sullivan jumps in on Palin’s grandma-gate rumor
Andrew Sullivan, who once gave me a “Malkin Award” for “excitably” asking questions about the Obama-Ayers connection, is chasing down the TRUE FACTS ABOUT TRIG PALIN like Alex Jones shambling after a 9-11 widow holding a chocolate cake.
Ace wrote me to suggest I “never link this {naughty word} again”, which is a request I’ll gladly accommodate. I don’t think I ever have linked him and I’m certainly not going to reward such a gauche display of Ted-Sampley-level rumormongering with a link, even in order to laugh at him.
Anyway: you know what this reminds me of? Those two nights in 2004 when both John Kerry and John Edwards made a point to bring up DICK CHENEY’S GAY DAUGHTER during their respective debates–a gratuitous, pointless, dank, greasy, creepy cheapshot that reveals the Left to lack class as well as discernment.

I guess it’s different because Dick Cheney’s daughter actually was gay, whereas this is a bizarre fantasy. But in both cases: even if this were true, so what? And as I mentioned below, if it were true, it actually makes Palin look saintly in her devotion to family.
The calculated sneering at Dick Cheney’s kid blew up in the Dems’ face. While I don’t wish any more intrusion into the Palins’ family life, I kind of hope the unhinged Left–among whose ranks the oh-so-cultivated Sullivan is now comfortably perched–keep showing this angry, unhinged, bitter snarl to the American public as they indulge their first instinct: going after the candidate’s mentally challenged infant son and high-school aged daughter.
Boors and barbarians. Is there a decent core to the Left–or at least a politically savvy core to the Left–that is willing to take a stand for decency?

I went to dinner with friends who are supporting Obama and they’re infuriated about this. They emailed Obama’s HQ in Chicago demanding that either Obama or someone on his staff tell Markos and his minions to knock it off or they would stop their monthly donations. They were really, really pissed about it.
We were at O’Fallon MO today to see John McCain and Sarah Palin. Her Pro-Life stand, her refusing the bridge to nowhere and not playing politics as usual is why we attended. She was dyno-myte. The left and MSM is scared to death of her and rightly so. They will attack her with every dirty tool at their disposal. Each vote is important so please do what you can to get turnout this November. Partially true. There are some good ones. Some Democrat supporters though are just ignorant, some willfully. Some Democrats in/running for office are just power-hungry. Some liberals figure that the end justifies the means, meaning that they’ll do anything to win, either for selfish gain or because they have a “god complex” and don’t want to risk losing since their people need them in office.

Now that it’s on Drudge, it is a little late for one of Obama’s famous “denouncements”. If he had gotten out in front of this and condemned the treatment of Palin from the get go, he at least could have had some credibility in his position. He let the story grow centipede legs and has not lifted a finger.
Any objection he comes out with now will ring very hollow. What the rabid left forgets, is that the election is now about independents and undecideds. The only people who will actually believe that story are already squarely in Obama’s camp mainlining the kool aid. Those people who are not political junkies and who have yet tomake a decision will view this as a despicable attack on a female governor and mother of five, as well as an attack on her children.
Obama’s failure to get out in front of this smear is going to cost him. But not as much as the antics of people like those that frequent Kos, who will be viewed by middle America as a lunatic fringe with whom those undecided voters will have no desire to create an association via a vote in common for Obama. Kos is stuck to Obama like glue now, and he will be unable to scrape them off before the election.

Back to the topic though, I work nights so I’m only getting caught up on news of the day now. I’m pretty much flabbergasted. I saw the Palin family pic over at the Townhall post. The left is really reaching to see a “baby bump” on what is simply a healthy teenage girl. She just looks like a nice young lady that doesn’t deserve any of this, much like Chelsea, and Barbara and Jenna Bush.
The simple fact I’m commenting on the teenage daughter of a family that are strangers to me shows what a stupid world this is.

If the Palin daughter gave birth to the child, there would be plentiful evidence of it. The parasites who have descended on Alaska since Friday in search of dirt would have preempted Gustav coverage to cram that evidence in our faces, but all they offer are rumor-status accusations. It could be a desperate attempt to terrorize the young lady so much that her mother would back away from all of the harsh attention of a campaign, but that’s only if the MSM pantywaists can’t comprehend things like courage and backbone. OK, they can’t.
I think Mary Cheney was fair game. Afterall, Dick and George were horrific to the gay community and continue to do so. Yet as soon as anyone brings up that obvious hypocritical fact, the right is up in arms. It’s sort of like: “How dare you subject ME and MY FAMILY to my own party’s out-dated, cruel and unfair standards!”. Really, had Mary actually stood up and said that she outraged at her father’s anti-gay ways, I would have more respect for her.
In any case, though I suspect this rumor to be true (DailyKos more or less proves it – if this were a court of law, Palin would have been convicted), I am entirely unsettled about this spreading. It’s simply unfair to Mrs. Palin.
