While Louisiana prepares for Hurricane Gustav, Dems gloat and guffaw; RNC opening night cancelled; Fowler apologizes; Gustav hits land

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 31, 2008 08:50 AM

Scroll for updates…RNC opening night cancelled…McCain via Bloomberg: “We are facing a great national challenge,” McCain said in remarks sent by video from St. Louis to Republicans gathering in St. Paul, Minnesota, for the nominating convention. “We have to do away with party politics and we have to act as Americans”…Fowler apologizes…Gustav slams into La. coast…

First, please read this e-mail from michellemalkin.com reader/commenter CantCureStupid, who is a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard. She asks for your thoughts and prayers as the people of his state ready for the storm:

Hi Michelle.

I’m a new member to the site and a big fan, and right now I’m experiencing a brief (and rare) moment of downtime. I am a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard, and we are up to our nostrils in preparations for Hurricane Gustav. There is a lot going on right now in south Louisiana, but mostly we are watching this monster bear down on us and hoping for the best. I wanted you to know, as a soldier who also had to suffer through the cluster that was Katrina, that we are 1000% better prepared (God Bless Bobby Jindal!!), and that while hoping for the best, we are completely prepared for the worst and ready to do what needs to be done to ensure the safety of the people of this state.

I am sure, as a fan of your site, that the vast majority of your fantastic commenters are keeping us in their thoughts and prayers. Most of us are very aware of how sick the rest of the nation must be to hear the namby-pamby cry baby stuff that still comes out of the New Orleans area three years after Katrina, but I would ask for prayer and support for my soldiers, who have nothing to do with politics and who show up and serve whenever called upon.

God Bless America and God Bless Louisiana!!!

New Orleans is under mandatory evacuation orders this morning. Here’s a disaster preparedness round-up from Glenn Reynolds. And Weather Nerd and hurricane blogger Brendan Loy is tracking the latest developments.

Per Gov. Bobby Jindal’s order at 4am this morning: “As directed by Governor Jindal, Louisiana State Police will initiate contraflow at 4:00 AM Sunday morning. For the first time in history, the entire Louisiana coastal population will be evacuated due to the impending threat of Hurricane Gustav.”

We know who won’t be praying for their success and safety: tolerant, peaceful liberals wishing the worst on Republicans in Gustav’s path and laughing about the possibility of grave destruction.

Exhibit A: Michael Moore (via Allah).

Exhibit B: Former DNC chair Don Fowler (via redstate diarist Absentee, who caught Fowler and Democrat Rep. John Spratt’s candid, malicious comments on a plane from Denver to Charlotte. Transcript via Ed Morrissey.

The hurricane’s going to hit New Orleans about the time they start. [Chuckle] The timing is — at least it appears now that it’ll be there Monday. That just demonstrates that God’s on our side. [Laughter] … Everything’s cool.

God is not on your side, gloating sleazeballs.

Our Louisiana Army National Guard’s screen name says it all: Can’t Cure Stupid.

Most of the fine people on your blog wish to have a civil discourse. We enjoy opposing views as we my learn and grow. There are people here that are turning your wonderful site into a polluted pool.
    Please remove Rob
Anybody what to second that motion?

I don’t second that motion. A leftist website would have been him, but I don’t see where he has done anything other than post a few strong opinions. Did I miss something?

That being said, I do think that it is important to keep the discourse as civil as possible to avoid giving the libs any ammunition in labeling Michelle a racist, which they try so hard to do.

As to the liberals spouting off about divine retribution, McCain needs to wait and see what happens and then start running the ads whether there is damage or not. If there is significant damage and loss of life, he should wait a prudent amount of time to let people begin to heal. If no significant damage or loss of life occurs, the ads should begin immediately after the storm. The time to make hay is when the sun is shining. Will McCain be villified for running the ads? You bet. To offset criticism, the ads must highlight the comments by Moore, Fowler and Spratt showing their compassion and love for the American people who are in harm’s way. What pieces of work they are.

Those things are governed by basic human decency, especially moreso in the midst of discussion of a potential natural tragedy. You haven’t been reading or you just haven’t been here long enough to see what Family Man is talking about. I have, and so have many others.

Rob hates people of Mexican descent so strongly that he advocates the deportation of legal American citizens. I’ve seen him advocate eugenics and I’ve seen him laud Chinas’ vile “population control” policies (forced abortion and infanticide). I’ve seen him declare that we should send the National Guard down to the border and shoot every single Mexican on sight.

Rob is a dyed-in-the-wool white supremacist, and the worst sort of racist bigot… in fact, I strongly suspect that away from this forum he advocates, and is capable of, violent bigotry and vigilante violence against people of Mexican descent.

He’s a repulsive individual, and if he’s truly a Conservative he leans so far over to the right that he’s falling off the edge.

I suspect that Rob has been heavily influenced by the same type of people who post over at Stormfront.org and David Dukes’ site.

Europe is currently having a real problem with white nationalist movements like the Vlams Belang, who have attached themselves like leeches to the anti-immigration movement to engender mainstream respectability.

The same thing is going on here… white supremacist movements here in the US have firmly attached themselves to the far-right wing of the Republican party and anti-immigration bandwagon. I seem them here on a fairly regular basis, and Rob is probably the most outspoken one of the bunch.

Omu, I searched the entire site and found no such pin. Damn, I would have like to have ordered one! :) Does that make me racist? Not in my opinion. I think it a funny play on words. Anyone in America can say, print or convey any message they want to. A company printing “offensive” pins or bumper stickers does not make the GOP (Texas, or national) racist. Would you like for us here at MM to peruse any left-wing sites for racist comments, symbols, or cartoons (racist cartoons have already been researched by this site and were listed again a few weeks ago) relating to, oh say, Condi Rice or Clarence Thomas? I do not know for sure, but am willing to gamble at a high stake that we can find much more racist content from your side of the fence than from ours.

How is it classless to put out ads comparing Obama’s “flash-in-the-pan” celebrity to Britney or Paris? I might not have run that ad, but not for reasons of taste. I think that I would have used the money for hitting at Obama in some other areas of his policies which would be harmful to America. BTW, ads that are distracting, are ads that “stick” in one’s consciousness. i.e. Billy Mays hawking crap all of the time. Or that SHAM-WOW guy. I’d like to break his nose just to listen to him cry. Forgive me Lord…

Exploited gay people to steal an election in 2004?!?!?!? What the hell you been smokin’? That is too absurd to respond to any further. Or did those gays work for DieBold and were secretly photographed wearing diapers and then Blackmailed (white-mailed, to be fair?)into rigging machines to vote for Bush?

Once again, a typical liberal argument. So full of nothing that the slightest breeze blows it away. You folks better be coming up with more substantial arguments before November, or it is going to a long cold winter for the Dems.

Disclaimer: I have almost as much American Indian blood in me as Obama has Black blood in him. Thus, I have deemed that I have a right to make “racial” statements such as, it should really be called the “Half-White House”, if Obama wins.

Liberal Democrats are not only morally bankrupt, but also mentally disturbed. Only an individual with a tenuous relationship with reality would make comments like MM, KO, and a few trolls who regularly appear on this and other conservative blogs.

MM takes a ridiculous statement wishing for Obama’s speech to be rained out – and btw one who does NOT represent either the GOP or most conservatives – and compares that for a major hurricaine that could very likely KILL hundreds of people and cause widespread devastation. Clever, huh? Moral equivalence, anyone?

Someone said to ban such as Rob. I disagree – that serves to make them look significant. Rather, leaving them to spread their bile shows libtards for what they truly are.

And BTW … do you know of any conservatives who go to libtard blogs to make comments? No – because if you make one it is immediately deleted and you are banned forever. Again … moral equivalence?

It’s about power over people for the libtards. They want (and think they are best equippped to) to run every facet of our lives, because they are our betters. I guess if you consider people like Code Pink, Recreate68, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and other despicable excuses for human beings to be our “betters” they may have a point. They are in favor of killing babies, and by extension innocent Americans. How? By asking the God they refuse to allow into schools and government to bring devastation to the Gulf Coast for no other reason but to shut down the GOP convention. Real class!

Kill babies, but not kill the scum who murder and rape our own citizens every day. That is “cruel and unusual punishment.” Don’t kill terrorists who want to kill Americans … THAT is likely to get more of the third world mad at us. Don’t pour water on a terrorists head, because that is torture – yet they say and do nothing about those same terrorists sawing someones head off while they are alive. Moral equivalence.

These people are bigger degenerates than third world scum because they should know better, living in a country that allows them to even exist and participate in the political process. Anywhere else they’d be put up against a tree and shot for the least of their filth.

    God Bless America.

And, as you said, good self-critique goes out the window and there’s only yes-men enablers at hand. It’s like a story I was just reading about Michael Jackson turning 50. The writer noted how he just didn’t have anyone to tell him things like the awful plastic surgery and sleepovers with kids weren’t good ideas. So he just got more and more detached from reality (and common sense).

In this case, it’s inexcusable for anyone to find any humor in the plight of those who may be in the path of what looks to be a big hit.

I read a rather long article recently about how the NOLA levee reconstruction was not complete because of infighting among local politicians and how other flood prevention structures were not yet built because of lawsuits by locals to direct the projects in a way for personal gain. In other words, the corruption in NOLA at all levels of government and citizenry means that tomorrow, if Gustav hits their city, they are NOT prepared and once again it is their own damned fault.

Secondly, the number one difference thus far between Katrina and Gustav is the leadership in the state. The Democrat mayor and the Democrat governor did nothing effective to protect or evacuate the people. Then the dems had and still have the audacity to blame the federal gov’t for their failures. Obscene. My fiancee has several family members living along, on or near the gulf in MS. They, like the rest of MS, rebuilt and moved on. The whiners in NOLA still suck on the teat.

I do send heartfelt prayers to those in uniform who are working to rescue the NOLA residents. But I just can’t work up any sympathy for the NOLA residents themselves. My remaining sympathy evaporated when they re-elected Nagin and I have seen nothing since from them to spark positive emotion. I certainly won’t donate a dime this time if there is significant destruction. I’m still donating through my taxes anyway. While Bobby Jindal is a much wiser person and better leader than Blanco, Nagin is still Nagin, and the majority of NOLA residents are just as prepared to bad mouth “the rich”, the GOP, and millions of others who donated time and money to help them the last time.

3 – Paste it into the comment box.

4 – Go over it the text again (so it’s “blue”) while it’s in the comment box.

5 – Click on the quote button above the comment box. That should do it.

You can copy & paste a paragraph or whole post and then edit out the unwanted parts before you highlight it (blue) and you hit the quote button.

I was surprised to see the use of the Gustav again. It seems to me I circumnavigated Hurricane Gustav in 1990 and followed it through the Carib. I guess they do not retire the names until they do X dollars worth of damage or kill X number of people.

After Katrina, I spent 30 days in LA then moved over to MS for 60+ days. It still pains me to see the focus on New Orleans, when MS was hit much harder and had much more damage. MS was ignored by the MSM. They did not experience the leadership problems LA and New Orleans had to deal with. The leaders in MS actually got together and worked with FEMA instead of trying to score politcal points at the expense of the people.

I do agree with Rob on his point about the Houston crime rate. It is true that there were a lot of helpless victims of Katrina who were the result of the left-wing liberal agenda of keeping the poor on the public dole and not putting them into a work program or some other way to get them to take responsibility for themselves. A lot of them didn’t even think ahead to take water and diapers to the dome. I think they expected all the items they needed would magically appear for them to just take. This was the mentality that got them into trouble. And also the looting, and the crime increase in the areas where a lot of them fled …another result of the welfare state. I know that sounds heartless. But truth can be hard to swallow sometimes. Still, it is the truth. Statistics don’t lie. I do have sympathy for those folks because they don’t know better. I got a bit of a break for lunch, but lost my appetite watching these stains on humanity make light of what is coming our way. There can be no compromise or negotiation with these types of liberal loons. They must be soundly and unequivocally defeated!!

So very grateful for the prayers and well-wishes from the best website on the net!!! Michelle, you are the absolute best and I can’t thank you enough.

I will do my best to keep everyone current as the storm approaches and makes landfall. Thoughts and prayers to Mississippi as well.

    God Bless.

Dems as a party prove over and over how low down they are as representatives of the people.
Tom Brokaw on Meet the Depressed pointed out how the republicans don’t want a second disaster like Katrina? Guv Blanco and the chocolate city Nagin were in charge and never received the wrath they should have for their failure of inaction before Katrina. The media and press painted Katrina as a republican failure. Where was/is Congressman “Cold Cash” Jefferson?
    Dems are pitiful.

I tried to comment about Don Fowler under the comments for this Micheal Moore story, but they seem to be blocking the comments..

Perhaps the MSM feel they need to get more solid proof that Fowler was talking about Gustav & the RNC, but right now they are giving the appearance of sackless referees in a playoff game.

“We don’t want to make any calls that might influence the game, so go ahead, kill each other.”

These people are disgusting. While they like to think that Katrina exposed some sort of racial/economic divide, what it really exposed was the difference between those who do the right thing and make the right decisions (i.e. get the hell out of Dodge), and those who blame otheres for all their problems.

That illustrates the core example between liberals and conservatives!

Liberals always want someone else to pay and someone else to blame, whereas conservatives gravitate towards personal responsibility and only ask for help when necessary.
