I feel a combination of disgust and amusement whenever I read a lefty claim they are part of the "reality-based community."

They really have no understanding of reality. Until it mugs, rapes, maims, or imprisons them.

Then they switch over and join the real reality-based community.

Insightful article by Robert Kagan, see-dubya. Thanks for the thinky-linky. Competing Hypotheses.com cited a link to the same article. It's good to know there are some people who keep up with what's happening in the world outside the U.S. In my opinion, the Russian invasion of Georgia and, by extension, the role our country will play in the affair, are the biggest stories out there.

"The "new realists" are not only unrealistic; they're also just plain stupid. God save us from these simple-minded men!

I'm interested! Thank you for the link to Kagan's article, See-Dubya, and please update when you get back. Every day I discover how little I know...

I do know this much. I am terrified of an Obama presidency. The more I learn the more frightened I become. I guess that's why all my Dem friends keep their heads in the sand. They don't want to know. They've drunk the kool-aid and await their salvation.

And let's not be too hard on lgm - some of the new posters are making him look like a genius.

I hope he gets to enjoy it for a few years before they expect him to start taking on staff jobs pulling him out of the cockpit. I’ve heard one F-22 has handed several F-15s their butts in recent dog fights. As I always tell the pilots here beware the flight surgeon he can take away all your fun.

The Obama campaign announced just moments ago that one of the first moves taken when the "One" occupies the White House will be to address the world in order to inform us that his new foreign policy regarding rogue states or, rogue actions, taken by mis-understood nations, will be to "hug 'em and kiss 'em and squeeze 'em and love 'em". After a practice radio address this morning, an open mike caught the "One" saying something about, "Ok George, George is my friend...".

Have no fear, Baaaaarrrrraaaacccccckkkkkk, Super Chicken is here!

I was fortunate to watch a little projection of our airpower yesterday as one of our three F-15 squadrons departed for their Air Expeditionary Forces deployment. They flew right over the top of our little military town as a farewell salute to the community and families they leave behind led by two KC-10A tankers with their chicks in tow forming up on both wings as they headed into the rising sun. Made me wish I was still medically qualified for flight duty. Sorry to drift off into dreamland, but as we always said back in the day, “you can always take the man of the airplane, but you can’t take the airplane out of the man.”

I assure all of you we have the capability with the two remaining squadron’s at this Wing to reach out and touch anyone in the world should it become necessary. Having been a mission planner for some real world operations all it would take is one of these squadron’s with one of the new F-22 squadron’s and proper tanker support to destroy all of the air, ground, and naval forces the Russians have used to overrun Georgia. Our forces may be stressed and tired, but they know what they are fighting for and they know they are winning and want to see this current war to a successful end so we don’t have to go back and fight it all over again in a couple of years. There is also a very large pool of trained manpower available to our armed forces of retired and recently separated military personnel that either have a 4 or 10 year inactive reserve commitment. I still have 2 years of eligibility left on mine and can still fit into my uniforms if I need to. So lgm don’t think for a minute we can’t respond to any geopolitical situation that arises provided our leadership has the will to enforce any US policy by projecting military power.

I prefer the true realist version - there will always be war.....history tells me it is so - and history tells me talking / appeasing will do nothing to stop it.

@lgm #9

speak not as what you (apparently) are not.

Those of us in the trade would point out:

.logistics into/outof RepGeorgia would only support one Brigade of land forces in an intervention until multiple corridors of supply could be opened.

.we happen to have one such Brigade available and fit, were it to be ordered to deploy there.

.the major issue isn't land forces anyway. Naval assets are in motion, and Air combat assets are available in large numbers if tasked to deploy, and are of the type needed.

.the only item that would be a stretch would be Air Mobility assets, which would have to be retasked.

Hope that cleared up the available choices for you.
