The power went out about 12:30 p.m. then the wind picked up and it blew and blew. When Katrina came through, we were able to go outside sometime around 5 p.m. Not so with Gustav. There was still high wind through the night. Try sleeping with your windows open (because there’s no electricity, it’s 80 degrees, give or take, and humid) with what’s left of your neighbor’s carport bucking and sounding like my carport was being torn apart.

There was no electricity in the entire parish (county to all you non-LA folks). Everything from the giant feeder lines to the local neighborhood distribution lines are damaged. No idea when we are going to have power again, although as I left town this morning, there were reports of power in a couple of areas.

I left home at 11:30 to travel west to my parents’ house so I could have power and computer access, but I traveled through very heavy rain and strong winds 24 hours after the storm came through.

Parishes more south sustained even more damage.

Please don’t think that this storm was “nothing” just because NO didn’t flood. We’re grateful that we got less rain than expected, but that doesn’t mean that there wasn’t a lot of damage.

With good people such as CantCureStupid, Governor Jindal and thousands of others we see how these things should be handled. They even managed to drag Mayor Negative Nagin out of his hidy hole. Were they able to secure Wal-Mart and the liquor stores from the Nwlans Police?

Lord I pray he and his row boat hasn’t been blown out to sea. But if he has, I pray he has Michael Moore, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and a whole mob of Hollywood celebrities with him, and that their towing Osama Bin Laden through the waves on a rope behind them.
