RNC protest update: Spitting, rock-throwing, poison-spraying, and Cub Scout-harassing

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 2, 2008 02:00 AM

It’s starting to get a little ugly in the Twin Cities. We’ve got reports of buses vandalized and targeted with flying sandbags; delegates spat on and abused by rock-throwers; and Cubs Scouts harassed.

But first, a reminder of my warning last week about the rabble-rousers now causing trouble at the RNC. Here’s what I wrote:

We’ve been having fun mocking the motley assortment of clowns and cads here in Denver for the week, but I’ll add this caveat: Law enforcement in the Twin Cities should remain on guard. A lot of these malefactors are headed down there to join Leftists who have caused serious trouble there. Don’t forget the havoc they have wrought attacking ROTC offices on campuses and recruitment centers across the country. As I got to see up close the other day, many of these grievance-mongers are swelling with unhinged anger. The lesson of the Seattle WTO riots was “Be prepared.” Still operative.

Jim Hoft, who is on the scene, rounds up the latest anarchist tantrums involving poisons sprayed on delegates, an 80-year-old attendee who endured getting spat on, and the vehicles of state contingents getting bombed with sandbags and concrete bags.

John Hinderaker, also on scene, reports on a bus load of Cub Scouts getting terrorized by protesters.

No doubt while the mob was screaming “Love! Peace! Justice!” and goading the police.

Thanks lgm for maintaining the balance here at MM; I find your posts intellectual and thought provoking.

Funniest post of the week and it is only Tuesday!

One of you is brain dead and I am beginning to think it is NOT lgm (unless you forgot the “/sarc” tag).

Actualy she was arrested for something else. LGM gets it wrong again. The reporters in denver were arrested for taking photos of dnc high ups and thier money men.

These people are the real sickos.

Now just wait. If McCain wins, this is going to get so ugly. Race riots, anarchist riots, anti war protestor riots… they will all come out of the woodwork.

No worries there… This behavior allows them to be identified, arrested processed, tried, convicted and jailed.

From the video you attached, Goodman’s arrest looked quite civil to me. Is there any credible evidence to her claim?

If you want to see real brutality, find the 2004 video of Amy Goodman’s comrades dragging a NYC cop off of his scooter and stomping him into a coma outside the RNC at Madison Square Garden, if you want to talk about “manhandling.”

BTW, when did liberal street activists become such drama queens? Makes them look like they are using al Qaeda’s playbook.

I agree. But, you have to be really, really careful about how you define “textual and verbal violence”.

I suppose I could have phrased this differently. Let me see if I can clarify.

I’m not referrring to the occasional, casual idiotic comment here and there. We all see random comments that are somewhat violent in nature from time to time… pretty common on websites and blogs that have a lot of traffic.

What I’m referring to here is,

    A. websites that demonstrate a pattern of allowing diaries, blog entries, and comments that directly advocate acts of violence and intimidation against others, or

    B. websites that attempt to organize and mobilize groups of people into inciting or committing acts of violence and intimidation against others.

Look, I know all about section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. I know full well what the responsibilities of site ownership are because I am one… and in my opinion, this is a law that should be challenged and redefined.

It should be the responsiblity of every single blog or site owner to run their sites in a responsible manner, by providing their registrants with an effective reporting system and some type of moderation, in the form of either paid moderation or voluntary moderation.

I have very little tolerance for lazy, cowardly blog and site owners who hide behind this law and allow their websites and blogs to be used for these purposes – and post a disclaimer to avoid being held directly responsible for the violence and intimidation that is inflicted upon others by their registrants – when they are fully capable of discouraging and disrupting this type of activity.

I’m sure there are some here who will disagree with me on this, quite possibly even our hostess.

But it’s my two cents, for what its’ worth.

My contention is that these low-lifes are the selfish, egotistical, self-centered unintelligent ones. They are the ones who likely have been raised without the proper discipline and education. They were likely coddled by parents who’d rather be their children’s best friend before ever dreaming of sending them to their rooms without dinner for being rude or throwing temper tantrums.

The fact that they would use such potentially deadly tactics as dropping sand bags on buses and other occupied vehicles indicates what little regard they have for the lives of people they do not even know let alone may or may not hold different points of view.

Exit question: Will the MSM responsibly report these thugs violent actions and, if so, how?

The slimy Dems are still living in a Woodstock fantasy.

I see them at all of the big “gaterings” the old hippies and the new “Anarchists”

The one thing they don’t seem to understand is that Woodstock was a mess; all they got was stoned, laid, wet and hungry. Nothing was accomplished just complaints and chants.

Hmm…sounds like what will happen with an Obama presidency.

Need to start arresting the cops who didn’t defy the mayors.

If someone dies from these lefty’s actions, will the same nothing happen this time as happened in Seattle?

I see where some Alaska Libtards have published Palin’s SocSec Info.

At the root, we are to blame. GWB’s Justice dept slapped smucky shroomer on the wrist when Mike Steele’s SS# was misused. If you scoff laws, you get more contempt for laws, and more scoff laws in return… a cylce that shakes itself apart.

We (as a society) allowed the mayor & police to look the other way when the Leftos rioted in Seattle, is it any surprise its worse here & now — w/so much at stake?

We need to start pushing back. If we keep all “false-gentlemanly”, i.e. milque-toast, these people will tear this country apart when they lose.

I don’t understand how so many in the Conservative movement have come to accept the enemy’s characterization of us: well-mannered polite doormats.

If this Country is worth anything, (I say this as someone who knows it is worth everything), then it is worth our tenaciously fighting these boobs for the enforcement of our laws and to protect these little ones.

No more. Not. One. More. Step.

I’m sorry, but at what point will the police, other authorities, and these wussie politicians decide enough is enough. It started with the Seattle WTO, and the limp-wristed response to the thugs there that convinced them they could get away with the crap.

It spread to other cities, and I believe there was only one that somewhat dealt with it the way it should be.

Now, we have Cub Scouts, and as I read today, an 83 year old man and others sprayed with bleach.

Those actions have nothing whatsoever to do with free speech, and everything to do with aggravated assault.

There seems to be little in the press about anyone being arrested. Is this to support a meme that the RNC cannot control their own convention?

Any blogger reporting on those arrested?

How are these morons breaching security?
