AIP is an organization in Alaska – Sarah Palin was addressing them in a video speech, NOT endorsing them. They are her constituents.

I am with you on Jeremiah Wright; I think it does not speak well of Barack Obama for his connections with his church. Please explain after so much Wright hysteria that Sarah Palin does not deserve the same scrutiny for her AIP connections.

Can anyone find the polls from previous elections that were taken right after the DNC convention? My understanding is that Obama did get a bump, but not what it should have been. It was much smaller than what democrat candidates have gotten in the past.

Until you scrutinize Obama the way you are scrutinizing the Palin family and suggesting that they have shady ties. I’ll consider everything you write as a simple distraction and deflection from the real truth, which is you know that Obama is weak and leaves you wanting. Yet, you are going to vote for him anyway.

Like I’ve been saying, the worst rumors about Sarah Palin (e.g. AIP) are nothing compared with known facts about Barack Obama (Weather Underground, Annenberg Challenge, Trinity, Woods Foundation, infanticide, earmarks, payoffs to Rezko, the slum housing project he got earmarked in the state budget, the earmarks to his wife’s hospital).
Not to mention the fawning media. It is sad that his lead is so small even with all of the help his Chicago-style campaign has received across the board.
Neither did Jeremiah Wright (or Bill Ayers, who opposed the Pentagon bombing). This does nothing to rebut why if we should be so concerned about Jeremiah Wright, we should not be about the AIP.
But her husband was a member of the AIP for 7 years, and as recently as 2002. (If we’re so concerned about Michelle Obama’s senior thesis from 25 years ago, why so quick to let Todd Palin off the hook?)

I do scrutinize Obama, which is part of why I read this website. Again, I think a lot of his history doesn’t speak especially well of him. You’re right, I am going to vote for him. He’s not a perfect candidate, but I prefer him.
If the media were actually scrutinizing Sarah Palin, instead of yammering about her daughter (which I think only helps her), I think a lot of people would have pause about a woman with these connections and her view on creationism in schools and her position to deny abortions to victims of rape and incest.
Factually you are very wrong about Bill Ayers. He did not oppose the Pentagon bombing. He did the bombing and later semi-backtracked years later.

It’s just amazing that conservatives can get so in a tizzy about things like Michelle Obama’s college term paper, but when similar (or worse) connections come up with their little darling, they pretend it doesn’t exist. (No AIP post by Michelle Malkin, and I don’t expect one anytime soon.)
Wow, what a powerful commentary by a former Dem. It must have been a hard thing to reconcile… that the Dem Party left her not that she left them. I’m also having the same crisis of thought, of belonging. Since 2006, I’ve become increasingly concerned about the direction that not only the GOP but the country is headed. The reason that Obummer is enjoying the cult of personality that he currently garners isn’t because his policy statements are well-thought out or even right. It’s because he sweeps up the wants and needs of the people and holds himself back. He shares nothing of himself but uses the crippling self-pity currently overtaking the country to punish the rest of us who don’t want anything from the government and just want to be left alone.
The GOP is not the same, self-confident party it once was. Neither is the Dem Party. Both are beholden to special interests, and the notion that you don’t need much but a well-oiled political machine to back your ambitions. You don’t have to be of any particular talent, or even have a strong sense of self or belief systems to be a politician. You can be an empty vessel into which the grasping, emotionally-gripped masses can pour out all their anger, self-pity, and selfish desires.
The political parties don’t answer to the people anymore. They don’t answer to anyone, and as a Republican, it pains me to say that. I hated that 2006 happened but it happened nonetheless because the Republicans lost sight of who really runs the show and it wasn’t them. It’s the people. However, the people’s insight into what actually runs the country is just as flawed as the political parties’.
The American people no longer believe they can make it on their own. They now believe, in this era of self-pity, pointed out by an astute Asian Times columnist, that they can’t get by without the state’s handouts. I look no further than the astounding conversation that I had with my very Republican mother a few days ago as a sign of such self-pity.
As someone who believes in the importance of wealth, in the entrepreneurial spirit, it was alarming to hear my mother harp on how “bad” most rich people were, how many didn’t pay their fare share. Yes, I pointed out that the top 5% of highest income earners pay the most in taxes (app. 60%). I even advised her to look it up at the IRS website. I even asked her who pays her pay check. My mother works for a private college as a computer programmer in the Alumni Department. If it weren’t for Alumni donations and private donations, she wouldn’t have a job. Those “bad,” rich people at work I suppose.
Yes, I can certainly relate to this former Dem’s experience. I no longer believe that the strength of this country lies in its people. It now lies in the promising temptation of entitlement programs such as universal healthcare and free college education. The American people are no longer interested in cleaning house but lining their own pockets. It only takes a few utterances from liberal visitors to this blog to make that point astoundingly clear.
This country is not the country I once knew. We have weak, vacuous politicians (both Obummer and McCain) who represent equally weak-minded, US magazine reading sheeple. Strong characters like Sarah Palin don’t arise very often and when they do, as I’ve seen the past few days, they’re vilified for being authentic and true to themselves. That’s the real ideal of the US, not believing the promises of vapid politicians before actually looking into the details of their proposals.
I am amazed that you are amazed.

Nothing in this world will ever make those who are in the bag for Obama, change their minds. God himself could come down from heaven, and declare that none of the accusations about Palin are factual, and these people would still try to justify their vote for Obama.
The truth does not matter to these people. They try to manufacture justification for their flawed judgement. They will continue listening to their Democrat Party masters who tell them how to think and vote because they are partisan lemmings.

The biased media has left his daughters alone, but now feel it appropriate to go after Palin’s daughter and questioning whether she should just be a stay-at-hom mom. The AIP thing is a manufactured, opposition stategy that implies something that never happened. However, Obummer hanging out with the anti-American crowd did happen. That’s something that has stuck with many people and will remain with those who bitterly cling to their guns and religion.
If you don’t understand the double standards of this election then I guess you believe whatever strategy it takes to win an election you’ll back. I think that’s sad since Dems are supposedly satisfied and sick with glee over McCain’s VP choice. I can’t speak for MM, but from what I understand, the AIP’s primary beef with statehood right now is that the collectivist wing of the U.S. Congress is blocking Alaska from using its natural resources (Oil, ANWR, polar bears, etc).
They joined the U.S. to be a self-sustaining state, but congressional collectivists are turning them into a hand-out state. Pallin never voiced support for the AIP, only their goal of supporting the Alaskan State Constitution, which allows for development of Alaska’s natural resources.
This is a far cry from Jeremiah Wright g’d'ing the U.S. and gloating at the attacks of 9/11, or BHO being a part of a church for 20 years that practices black liberation theology, which is a racist and anti-semitic form of marxism.
One world view preaches individualism and self-reliance; the other preaches hatred, victimism, and collectivism.
Both may be errors, but I prefer the errors made in the cause of individualism and self-reliance over those that view mankind as a slave to the state.

A point regarding the “vetting” of Obama: If he was applying for any position in the US government that required a Top Secret Clearance or above, his associations with Ayers alone would very likely preclude him from receiving his clearance. Likewise, his associations with an organization that embraced liberation theology as well as his associations with a convicted felon and his communist mentor would likewise be a real issue.
So, he would not qualify to become an officer in the US military, or an agent with the FBI or CIA, but he is qualified to serve as their leader?

You’re ignoring the whole hate-America, hate-the-flag component to AIP. Again, you could say that Obama joined Trinity for its anti-poverty program, but that doesn’t absolve it of its questionable nature.

The entire national press corps, every dirt digger Hillary and the RNC could hire and a majority of the Democratic party. Unlike Governor Palin, Obama didn’t just appear out of the ether five days ago, he has been subject to intense and prolonged scrutiny and research. If there’s anything relevent that you don’t know, you haven’t been paying attantion.
None of the things you mention make him “unqualified” to be commander-in-chief. They might, were he an unknown, cause a bureaucratic agency to deny him a security clearance, because they have to ewrr on the side of caution and because they are bureaucrats. But there is nothing — I repeat, nothing whatsoever — in Obama’s past that to any impartial observer suggests that he is a security risk, in the sense of breaking the law or undermining the constitution.

I’ve got news for you lgm, and for everyone of your ilk. If you wanted any credibility, you should have raised those issues first, not several days later after practically burning her at the stake for being a woman with children. It’s too late now.
I will go further than that. If the situation were reversed, I would cross party lines to vote for her. If it should ever happen that a woman is running against a man in the future, I won’t bother to look at their platform or their party: they’ve got my vote. If Hillary runs against a man in a presidential election, she’s got my vote.

I am deeply, yes truly and profoundly sorry for referring to the Vice President as the President “Pro tempore” of the Senate. As Adlib correctly points out, the Vice President is the “President” of the Senate, and the person who typically actually DOES the job in the VP’s place is called the “President Pro Tempore”.
Thank you, Adlib, for pointing out that this is yet another responsibility that the Vice President of the United States actually DOES NOT have. Making the post even more pointless than I may have led others to believe.
By the way, Adlib, when you post a link purportedly proving someone wrong (e.g. ostensibly PROVING the MANY, MANY, utterly crucial duties of the VP), you might want to:
a) read the link yourself; and,
b) expect the person it is directed to to actually read the link.
For example — the very FIRST SENTENCE of the link you provided which states:
“The formal powers and role of the vice president are limited by the Constitution to becoming President should the President become unable to serve… and acting as the presiding officer of the U.S. Senate.”
You may also not want to harp on the mistaken use of one term (President Pro Tempore), and display your own ignorance so freely.
Finally, your sources for making your arguments should probably not be limited to Wikipedia and Google searches.
