By the way, Adlib, when you post a link purportedly proving someone wrong (e.g. ostensibly PROVING the MANY, MANY, utterly crucial duties of the VP), you might want to:

a) read the link yourself; and,
b) expect the person it is directed to to actually read the link.

For example -- the very FIRST SENTENCE of the link you provided which states:

"The formal powers and role of the vice president are limited by the Constitution to becoming President should the President become unable to serve... and acting as the presiding officer of the U.S. Senate."

You may also not want to harp on the mistaken use of one term (President Pro Tempore), and display your own ignorance so freely.

Finally, your sources for making your arguments should probably not be limited to Wikipedia and Google searches.

I am deeply, yes truly and profoundly sorry for referring to the Vice President as the President "Pro tempore" of the Senate. As Adlib correctly points out, the Vice President is the "President" of the Senate, and the person who typically actually DOES the job in the VP's place is called the "President Pro Tempore".

Thank you, Adlib, for pointing out that this is yet another responsibility that the Vice President of the United States actually DOES NOT have. Making the post even more pointless than I may have led others to believe.

[...] I have to admit, I was holding off on blasting McCain (ok, I held back on the one barrel) until after the VP pick was announced. If it was a conservative, I would vote for him. If not, he’d get the other barrel in hopes that we would be able to pick someone else in four years. My plan was to under-vote the presidency. In the state of Washington where I live, if my vote could have made a difference it would have been a landslide across the country. When competing with Seattle, there’s no way that a Republican can win this state (and I’m not just talking about the number of voters, it’s also about how they’re counted.) The only way I would have gone back on that is on the off-chance that the polls were close right before the election. But all that has changed. [...]

I found that the Democratic party left me in the 90's. That was when I sat down and decided what was important to me and which part clearly supported my beliefs. That's when I became a Republican. I've always been conservative but was raised in a Democratic household. Now I'm in charge of my own household. No Dems here.

do you really want a “hockey mom” dealing with Iran & Russia?

If you were talking about a man running for office who took his son to baseball games, it would be admirable. It would be in the big old sappy montage about how wonderful he is for sparing the time to drive his kid to the ballpark. Nobody would ask, "do you really want a baseball dad dealing with Iran?"

I learned a cold hard fact about myself this past week: I am a second-class citizen. But unfortunately for you, I do have the right to vote.

FirstSkirt, No one vetted Obama. If anyone tries bad things start happening, like
calls to the DOJ to investigate their donors, etc. My husband is from Chicago and
of course he is keeping me up on Chicago and Illinois politics. Of course it has been
awhile since he has lived there and he thinks maybe they've changed, but not necessarily for the better.
The female talking head on our local Fox channel, said, tonight, that Everyone Is
DEMANDING To Know More About Sarah Palin And Her Pregnant 17 Yr Old Daughter.
What a crock! We're not hearing that we would all like to know more about BO.

LGM

Most of the trash you’ve thrown at Obama sticks better to Palin.

Which Palin? Sarah or Bristol?

It's only natural for the democrat MSM to pull a double standard. They are scared to death that the first woman VP will come on a conservative ticket, and it will invalidate their "progress" because they are so important their work must mean something. After all, a crying Hilary couldn't get a chance to be president, why should a little-known lady from Alaska get in the White House, and oh my! She's PRO-life and doesn't agree with gay marriage!

No, no NO! This can't be! Only old white men should be republicans because everyone else is a victim!

She was in church two weeks ago when the pastor said that terrorism against Israel was the fault of Jews who have not converted to Christianity.

? Who has more influence here, LGM? This pastor or Louis Farrakhan and his friends Rev. Pleger and Jeremiah Wright.

Here's the key question: Do you even know the name of this pastor without referring to the article?

If you are so concerned about Jews, why do you write off radical Islam, refuse to support out troops and are silent on what the Rev. Sharpton said about Jews?

You come across, LGM, like the rest of the media: Those things about Jews can only be said by bleeding-heart liberals because they are "victims", and if you confronted them, they might call you a RACIST! Oh my!

You try to be the intelligent liberal who calmly posts on here amidst all the conservative venting. Yet, it's quite clear this blog gets your blood pressure up on occasion.

Adjust your diet accordingly :)

A point regarding the “vetting” of Obama: If he was applying for any position in the US government that required a Top Secret Clearance or above, his associations with Ayers alone would very likely preclude him from receiving his clearance. Likewise, his associations with an organization that embraced liberation theology as well as his associations with a convicted felon and his communist mentor would likewise be a real issue.

So, he would not qualify to become an officer in the US military, or an agent with the FBI or CIA, but he is qualified to serve as their leader?

You missed the automatic disqualifier: cocaine use. It immediate prevents any consideration for any access to Top Secret or compartmented intelligence.

In other words, Obama is barred form access to classified were he to be a normal enlisted person in the military. He'd never be allowed to be an officer.

And that's why Obama won't debate McCain in townhall format. He's afraid of answering hard ball questions.

He is sticking to the traditional 3 debates asked by someone who is in his pocket.

So much for "change".
