Thank God we have cameras everywhere now so they can capture events and document what REALY happened. Otherwise, the liberals could make up anything they wanted and turn it into facts and we would have no way of refuting them.
Really? How so? She’s not running for anything & she’s not campaigning for her mother. How does this have anything to do with the election?
When you try to answer keep these things in mind. First, Michelle Obama has been an active, high-profile member of her husband’s campaign and will obviously influence the policy decisions Obama makes. She spoke at their freaking convention. And yet shining a light on her self-professed loathing of this great nation is supposed to be off limits.
Two, Barack Obama has exposed his own children week after week, since birth, to the worst kind of racist, anti-American bile this side of the KKK. But to point this out is a “distraction” and not newsworthy.
Finally, Obama has had a long time personal, financial and political association with an admitted terrorist. But that also is a distraction, and not newsworthy.
So go ahead, explain to me why this young woman’s life is newsworthy in a way that Obama’s troubling associations aren’t.

Ah, but that’s not the case. I’ve been reading these threads for a long time. A common attack on the Obamas is that they don’t have good values. And on any thread regarding race, there are always people who chide black single mothers and the welfare state.

MBuck, the reason that Bristol’s pregnancy is fair game (uncomfortable fair game, but fair game nevertheless) was the press release the Palin and McCain campaigns released to announce the pregnancy.
The gist of no one is forcing her to have this baby, this is her choice…
Well, these are two politicians who are celebrating Bristol’s choice while trying to take it away from everyone else. That’s a problem that needs to be highlighted.
Pretty weak rationalization, considering that they only announced it to rebut rumors about the Palin family that were even more grotesque.
That’s an even weaker rationalization. If they were taking her to have an abortion while campaigning against Roe v Wade then maybe, maybe you’d have a point. But that’s not the case. This is a family that is practicing what they preach, which (theoretically) is what we want our leaders to do.
Whatever your stance on abortion you should be arguing it on the merits. You don’t need to drag this particular young woman into it.
And I’m still waiting to hear you explain how she’s important to the campaign in a way that Michelle, Ayers, Wright, Rezco et al aren’t.

They had nothing to go on with Sarah Palin. She was a dark horse they didn’t think had a shot at all in being picked and they didn’t have reams of stories pre-prepared to attack her with.
Let’s examine how the media would have handled the “Short list” from last week.
Romney: Now I like Romney and think he would have been a great pick.
The msm would have loved this pick also. We would have been inundated with story after story about the FLDS down in Texas and the press bending over backwards linking Romney to the polygamists.
Ridge: A game closer and the msm would have had reams of Homeland Security horror stories. Stories about domestic spying and Katrina failures.
Pawlenty: Not well known but it’s real easy to predict the msm response. Story after story on the crumbling infrastructure and five days of seeing a collapsed bridge.
And the msm’s most favorite?
Joe Leiberman: Why? Well every story they would have printed would have actually been the truth with him. The total destruction of the Republican party as we know it with crashing poll numbers and screaming conservatives running away from a campaign that crapped on it’s base.

Personally, I tried to watch a video today in which somone whose first name was
Keira was talking about Bristol Palin and I had to throw up and brush my teeth

Straying a little off topic here, but I think the whole problem with the abortion debate is that we’re arguing the wrong issue. There is really only one relevant question: at what point does something change from a clump of cells into a child?
That’s the only question that matters, because if you answer that question you answer all the others. If you have a clump of cells then you can have it removed at will, the same way you can an appendix or wisdom tooth. If it’s a child the harming it is assault or murder, period. It would be no more a “privacy issue” than any other form of child abuse.
That’s why I think that in the long term the pro-life side will win. The advances in ultrasound and other technologies are making it harder and harder to deny the humanity of that “clump of cells”, and harder to rationalize killing it as a “choice”.
The NY Times web site has a nice picture of Levi Johnston on it’s home page at the moment. Pretty newsworthy - since he’s running for - no wait, he’s a teen caught in the glare of the MSM railroad. Actually, in a way I like it. The two young people have assumed responsibility for their behavior. I think Sarah ‘Cuda has teeth…

1) Obama has no problem working and socializing with a terrorist that has murdered Americans and in fact regrets not killing more of them.
2) Obama sat for decades and listened approvingly to racism and lunatic conspiracy theories masquerading as religion. Rather than leave and condemn this behavior he brought his kids.
3) His wife, clearly a major influence in his life, has at best a dim view of America and what it represents.
Those and many other facts are dismissed as smears by your idealogical compatriots. Are you going to call them on it?

On a Wizbang thread some nutcase named toby said that Gov Palin is not a
Christian who practices Christian values, because, if she was, her daughter would
not be pregnant. Toby also states that because of this, he/she will not be voting
for McCain/Palin. ( I guess BO/JB are sooooo Christian that this is where that
much vaunted vote will be cast). Apparently, this brain surgeon has never known
a family where the parents taught their children values and the child/children
went out and did something completely opposite what they were taught. Even
happens to stay at home Moms.
What I am enjoying is watching the dems trying to figure out ( and consistently
getting it wrong ) how conservatives, and primarily, conservative women think
about out of wedlock pregnancies. I guess they have no experience with this
state, since of their’s all end in abortions. They also seem to think that the normal
male will be turned off by a gun toting woman who is a proficient hunter and
fisherman (woman,person, what IS pc here?). Think again. I have a bil that
will be voting GOP for the first time because of her.
The MSM doesn’t report the immigration status of criminal illegals until they have to. They avoided reporting on John Edward’s affair while they were all over the remote possibility that McCain may have had a relationship with another woman. The MSM just can’t defend this type of selective reporting. I guess their chosen candidate just isn’t stong enough to win the election with his abilities and needs all this nonsense to improve his status.
OT..Here’s one. I just read that Hispanics are being hit hardest by job cutbacks and are losing full time jobs and having to work part time jobs. The
first Hispanic named was Brazilian and citizen was written in his description.
The second was a woman (single Mother) and her description was very carefully worded but had no mention of her being a citizen or an illegal which
automatically set off bells and whistles.
Now, we had a newlywed couple killed over the weekend by an Hispanic who
has had 4 DUI’s and was driving on a suspended license (yet the police let him
drive away from the traffic stop and kill this couple and hurt others). I have
noticed that there is no mention of citizenship or the lack thereof. Why wasn’t he in prison or at the least, not allowed to drive away from the police
that night?
Isn’t it ironic… that children of opposition politicins are useful to liberals when they need to trash a politician (ahem Sarah Palin) they don’t like?

Hopefully wide access to the internet will permit citizens who wish to be well-informed the means to become so. It takes only a click to check facts and figures, or to be exposed to an opposition point of view. I pray many Americans make good use of this, and don’t allow slick lies to direct their votes.
I don’t have a problem with Gov. Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy being made public as much as I do the double standard from the media. Wasn’t Jamie Lynne Spears hailed as a brave and hip girl when news hit the press about her pregnancy at 16? I’m asking because I have to admit I don’t follow the tabloid trash much (though it’s hard to escape, when the NYT and WaPo start printing less important and factual stories than the National Enquirer).
Ever wonder what the reaction of the MSM and Dems would be if it had been made public that Ms. Palin had an abortion, rather than choosing life? Honestly, it wouldn’t matter. This is a no win situation as far as the privacy of the Palin family goes. I do think it will seriously backfire on the media, though. I suspect the McCain campaign and Palin’s believe that, as well. It has to be hard on Bristol, to have this made so public, but in the long run— she and her family will come out of this stronger, and the Dems will have been irreparably harmed for allowing it to get out of hand, particularly after the fuss made over respecting Michelle O’s privacy. Sarah Palin wouldn’t be where she is today if she turned into a whining, defensive little brat when someone try to call her out on something… only a Democrat with the media still fawning over a ‘fist-bump’ with the spouse can get away with something like that.
Hmmm. I just realized something. I spent the better part of the past 8 years sticking up for GW Bush by telling colleagues, friends, family members, and students that one can’t make it to the highest office in the land without at least some intelligence and integrity. Apparently, one can, with enough backing from the media and enough people who get their news from the ‘Daily Show’ or ‘The View’ going to the polls in November. The only way Obama has made it into any office is by media hype and underhanded slighting of his opponents… will be interesting to see how that works against folks with as much backbone and resilience as his opponents in this race.

I pray you’re right. I’ve heard a lot of misconceptions on who actually pays most of the taxes and who doesn’t. This from my own mother who I’ve encouraged to actually get a computer. Ironically, she’s a computer programmer who doesn’t actually have her own computer.
Unfortunately, there is a segment of people out there (ahem, liberal women and minorities) who cannot think for themselves. Then, there are the one issue voters like my sisters-in-law who always vote for Dems because of abortion or gun control. Research will not impact these voters.
Another worrying trend is the youth of our country, the segment of our country who has just recently graduated from our public schools. It is hard to rebut indoctrination if it’s the only source of information you have, as a kid, and it’s not being refuted at home. These are kids who are the most vulnerable about the direction of our country, who see their parents and families struggling, and are told if they and said relatives just rely on the guvmint, everything will be okey dokey.
It doesn’t take much to got to a public library and surf the net. However, it takes a lot of nerve and effort to open your mind and look at what the other side is saying. Believe me, I know what it’s like to give the other side the benefit of the doubt, having grown up in a college town where the liberal mindset was the norm not the exception.
I just don’t think many Americans are up for more “self-reliance” anymore. This presidential election has become more about style than substance. McCain has even asked Obummer to accompany him on a townhall tour with little success. That’s the type of intransigence that the country will get with Obummer. If he can’t show up for a townhall debate tour, how likely will he be to dialogue with the other side?
I hope you’re right and I’m wrong. Unfortunately, given the increasing breakdown of the family (I’ve seen this as a teacher) and the lack of parenting in childrens’ lives these days, young people are being told that self-reliance is old school and that Bid Daddy Government is the real power in their lives. You can’t trust that other fuddy duddy party, or your own family, but you can trust the state.
We are becoming increasingly like Chavez’ socialist dicatorship where the lemmings would rather get a handout in exchange for not thinking for themselves. We have millions of Americans with this mentality and all the independent research in the world won’t blunt this reality.

I really don’t know what you are talking about. I’m just barely computer literate
as you can see when the post “breaks up” but why should I use the enter key? I
am using a macbook pro. All I have used a computer for before this was work,
back when I was an Accountant. Never had the time between being Wife, Mom,
Working Mother, Dance Instructor, Chauffeur, Homemaker to spend “idle time”
on computer. Now, I am counseling full time and have been soooo busy that
I am just this past week getting a little extra time.

Well, I guess I need to retract the earlier statement about the Nat’l Enquirer having more journalistic integrity than the NYT or WaPo— seems they have jumped on the ‘Smear Sarah Palin’ bandwagon. If the ‘Fairness Doctrine’ ever gets a foothold in this country, the only news we’ll ever see or hear will be info-tainment and tabloid trash.
Going by what Obama has said so far we probably wouldn’t know about it. But if the teenage daughter of anyone at all got pregnant, anyone - friend, foe, politician, whatever - my response would be, “Congratulations. I’m sure there will be some tough times ahead, but there will be far, far more joyful ones.”
