“Waking up the sleeping giant”

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 3, 2008 04:09 PM

I am conservative woman, hear me roar:

The media has done more for John McCain in the last two days than he’s done for himself in the last year and a half,” [Tom] DeLay said. “Trashing her is waking up the sleeping giant, and the sleeping giant is Republican women.”

(Link)

A movement is born. From Reader D.:

I heard about a convention attendee wearing a shirt that simply stated “I am Sarah Palin”. Hearing this a light bulb went on. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the McCain camp rolled out an “I am Sarah Palin” ad campaign? It would simply be a series of commercials that show a woman describing herself, like “I am a mom of 2 children, I am a wife, I am a PTA volunteer, I am a team mom, I am a marketing executive, I am a Democrat, etc” then the tag line, the woman says “I am Sarah Palin.”

They could have a series of women of different ages and different races giving their story, all saying in the end, “I am Sarah Palin.”

I would love to see these ads, it would drive the lefty feminists CRAZY.

Someone’s on the same wavelength. Via Jim Geraghty:

Spoke to Hugh Hewitt on radio row. He’s getting deluged with phone calls from women listeners, all saying that they’re appalled by the attacks on Sarah Palin. One has already printed up a t-shirt that says, “I AM SARAH PALIN. HER STORY IS MY STORY. BACK OFF.”

Some enterprising printer ought to consider mass-producing that, I think…

    Just.be.yourself.

Once Giuliani dropped out, I became a McCain supporter. I’ve never wavered on that. I’ve also never said I was a conservative. I’m too liberal on some social issues to call myself that. But on things like the war, immigration and the second amendment, I agree with conservatives. Maybe I’m a wuss for being in the middle between the two sides but so be it.

The attacks on Sarah Palin concern me because it impacts McCain. I think she’s a fantastic woman who shouldn’t be taken lightly. But there’s a part of me that feels like this was an impulse pick on McCain’s part when he didn’t get to pick either Lieberman or Ridge. He was determined to shake things up but couldn’t risk a floor fight over a pro-choice nominee so he chose Palin.

It’s just my opinion. I’m not saying it’s the truth or that it’s right. It’s just how I feel.

I’ll give you points for honesty…but I’m taking some away for laziness.

All too often “It’s my opinion; that’s how I feel” is a cop out for failure to do the reasoning and the research that enable one to say instead “This is the truth; this is my judgment.”

And if that offends, just remember “It’s just my opinion. I’m not saying it’s the truth or that it’s right. It’s just how I feel.”

    John Ansell,

I nearly burst out laughing when I read that line you referenced. This is it off Drudge:

Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities.

    Another good one:

“I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion – I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country.”

    Here’s Sarah on John McCain:

“Here’s how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change.”

This lady is good and she apparently gives no quarter. She’s jumping right over Biden and going right to the heart of the Obama campaign. I haven’t watched a political speech in years but I’ll be glued to the set tonight.

McCain VP Contender Palin in Alaska, Not Ohio

    August 29, 2008 8:54 AM

ABC News’ Kate McCarthy reports: As vice presidential speculation swirls, Gov. Sarah Palin is watching the fireworks from her home in Wasilla, Alaska.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is in Dayton, Ohio, awaiting a high noon event at which the campaign has said the Republican contender will announce his running mate.

All eyes are on a short list of contenders including Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Govs. Mitt Romney and Tom Ridge, Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., and Palin.

But the possibility of a surprise pick also looms as the McCain camp remains mum at this hour about just who will be joining their candidate on stage in battleground Ohio.

But one person who will not be there: Palin. The governor’s spokesperson, Sharon Leighow, tells ABC News she’s going to the State Fair in Anchorage, Alaska.

    Stay tuned…

    Oh, I will. I will.

Look no further than the Democrats to find elected officials who turn to blogs for personnel decisions. The Democratic Party turned to the Kossacks and the leftist nutroots to appoint Barack Obama to the Presidency.

Also, at this very moment Sally Quinn is on O’Reilly lying and saying that Palin was not properly vetted, after it has been proven over and over again in the last 24 hours that she was vetted. Quinn just also said that if Palin was a legit VP contender McCain would have put her name out there months ago to let the media vet her. Her name has been in the discussions at Hot Air for quite a while.

A lot of names and ideas (Lieberman, Romney, Guiliani etc. and the idea of pro-choice running mate) were floated prior to the selection being announced. Some speculated that it was to gauge possible voter reaction to various possibilities.

I would not want or expect any candidate to make decisions solely on what is said on the conservative blogs, but it is one tool they can use to gauge what people are thinking. I want elected officials to do what’s right, but political considerations will probably never be entirely eliminated.

On a personal note, I have seen the chastisement when people are convinced of your guilt contrary to the evidence provided and saw some of my former shipmates that faced the wrath of nurse corps, and dental corps o’s-I know I was outed from a closet that I never in because of fabricated evidence by a BS/PH awardee.

Quoting from the “Ladies Night” thread. I think the server blew up. There’s no comment box!

Wonder if Flinchy and Mike invited D’ohprah over to watch the final nail get hammered in the coffin? And speaking of Bela Pelosi and “they chase me with shovels” Harry Reid, can you imagine how many cognacs they tossed back to ease the pain? And then there’s Hildebeast. She’s probably ground her teeth down to nubs. (Bill was prob’ly out on a date.)

I was wondering the same – thanks for letting us know MM’s checking it aj. :)

There are dozens of comments I want to make, but I’ll keep it to one simple observation; one of my favorite images of the night was Cindy McCain holding Trig Palin in her arms. I knew that would happen sooner or later. She’s going to make us all proud as First Lady – and Sarah Palin is going to kick butt as VPOTUS. :D

The elite media set her up for a do or die situation, lets face it.

She came out & showed absolutely no weakness. She was clearly not rattled by anything that’s happened over the last week. She cleared the first Gauntlet like a Ninja, & without showing any signs of stress whatsoever.

I’m confident that we will win in November, but no matter what happens, I am proud to vote for this ticket.

The one thing the Dems would like to see is for conservatives to reject Sarah Palin …that way they can slip in their marxist stuffed-shirt Obama in.

Independents really don’t matter at this point because they pretty much have already gravitated to one side or the other…the block that matters is the conservative block…either they will stay home/vote for third party candidates and allow Obama the Whitehouse or they will defeat Obama by backing McCain/Palin-its that simple.

This is why the libs are scared…Obama needs conservatives to just stay home and not vote or vote third party…if we dare vote for McCain/Palin…Obama is finished Mistressjustice, Ahh! a Lion, the Otherside, and et al know this
