“Waking up the sleeping giant”

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 3, 2008 04:09 PM

I am conservative woman, hear me roar:

The media has done more for John McCain in the last two days than he’s done for himself in the last year and a half,” [Tom] DeLay said. “Trashing her is waking up the sleeping giant, and the sleeping giant is Republican women.”

(Link)

A movement is born. From Reader D.:

I heard about a convention attendee wearing a shirt that simply stated “I am Sarah Palin”. Hearing this a light bulb went on. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the McCain camp rolled out an “I am Sarah Palin” ad campaign? It would simply be a series of commercials that show a woman describing herself, like “I am a mom of 2 children, I am a wife, I am a PTA volunteer, I am a team mom, I am a marketing executive, I am a Democrat, etc” then the tag line, the woman says “I am Sarah Palin.”

They could have a series of women of different ages and different races giving their story, all saying in the end, “I am Sarah Palin.”

I would love to see these ads, it would drive the lefty feminists CRAZY.

Someone’s on the same wavelength. Via Jim Geraghty:

Spoke to Hugh Hewitt on radio row. He’s getting deluged with phone calls from women listeners, all saying that they’re appalled by the attacks on Sarah Palin. One has already printed up a t-shirt that says, “I AM SARAH PALIN. HER STORY IS MY STORY. BACK OFF.”

Some enterprising printer ought to consider mass-producing that, I think…

Ask and ye shall receive! Already on CafePress:

BS BS BS. Bill Grant and others can tell you that not all of us conservatives were going to hold their nose and vote McCain. I had some friends over last night and most are not voting for McCain. These are friends that attend the NRCC annual meetings and give thousands of dollars each election to the GOP, NRCC, etc. but no longer.

Palin may save the party. McCain has really hurt it.

Don’t give me the typical fallacious answer that “well, she has more than Obama.” My toddler is more qualified to attend kindergarten than a newborn, but that doesn’t mean he’s qualified. I care not about Obama. Convince me, on her own merits, that she’s qualified in this area.
Am I allowed to ask about her philosophies in terms of state vs. federal gov’t roles? Taxation? Purpose of gov’t? Social security?

It would be a refreshing change if these were the questions instead of “is you husband secretly gay?” Everybody has been so wraped up in her families sex life no body has asked those questions. Ask away by all means.

Point? You’re wrong but you must have a point….

And I find it ironic that given the convention them[e] of “Country First”, McCain picking Palin was a Karl Rove said “a campaign decision” not a “governing decision”. Not to mention Palin’s affiliation with a Alaska first, country second political movement.

Sour grapes. If selecting Palin as his VP is as shortsighted as you libs are making it out to be… then why are you praising this bad decision?

Can someone please give a link to something that indicates that the AIP is an EVIL organization dedicated to world domination by the hive mind collective?

You guys sound like McCarthyite red-baiters. “Were you or have you ever been a member of…”

    From their website:

The Alaskan Independence Party can be summed up in just two words:
    ALASKA FIRST!

Until we as Alaskans receive our Ultimate Goal, the AIP will continue to strive to make Alaska a better place to live with less government interference in our everyday lives.

The Alaskan Independence Party’s goal is the vote we were entitled to in 1958, one choice from among the following four alternatives:

    1) Remain a Territory.
    2) Become a separate and Independent Nation.
    3) Accept Commonwealth status.
    4) Become a State.

The call for this vote is in furtherance of the dream of the Alaskan Independence Party’s founding father, Joe Vogler, which was for Alaskans to achieve independence under a minimal government, fully responsive to the people, promoting a peaceful and lawful means of resolving differences.

Granted, they are a bit kooky in wanting to revisit statehood but they don’t strike me as so evil that we need a bunch of liberals aping their own stereotype of Joe McCarthy.

Wrong. This independent will not only vote for the McCain/Palin ticket, I’m now going to actively campaign for them. I am looking forward to her debating that blowhard doofus Biden, and then McCain will crush the chump Obama, who will collapse like a wet paper bag (an empty bag at that!) in the presidential debate.

One other telling point that the Dems are desperate…Obama is going on O’Reilly Thursday night. Whereas McCain spent his own campaign money to congratulate Obama on his big night, Hussein is trying to steal some of McCain’s thunder by appearing on O’Reilly the same night as McCain’s acceptance speech. What a jerk, but it isn’t surprising coming from the desperate Dems.

And dang!…I found out too late that Biden is in my town right now…I could have used one of those “I am GOVERNOR Sarah Palin” t-shirts today. Maybe I still have time to make a sign and head over there…

Obama missed almost 45% of the senates votes since he came to the senate. That to me is very telling. That and his history and who he chooses to assicate with tell me all about the guy. McCain is well, McCain. Binden just just another insider in washington. You get them in both parties. Palin is something new. Her history is shorter than McCain and Bidens but it impresses me more. He history is much longer that Obamas and much more impressive.

Hey lunchbox, almost as funny as all of those dems supporting Hillary over Obama during the primaries and the continued infighting over Hillary’s snub now that Obama is your nominee. You know, the PUMA’s. It was hilarious watching dems using dem tactics on each other for all to see.

    That’s comedy gold.

I guess you’re ignoring my compliments for both Sarah Palin and Baldilocks in the past week alone. Your lack of honesty is rather astonishing. You are rather sick.

Please, attach said compliments. Or was it back-handed praise? You liberals are masters of empty gestures.

After what you said about my husband in a previous post, your hypocrisy reading is through the roof. It’s rather sick on your part, to come on Michelle’s blog, and say the things you do about conservatives and misrepresent/generalize them the way you think the opposition does to liberals. That also goes for nyk. I find it laughable any liberal “claiming” to understand the other side. What’s there to understand when all you’re here for is to deride conservatives and derail conversation.

When you start criticizing the actions of the liberal media and their treatment of Sarah Palin, then I will concede that understanding, of any kind, has been achieved.
