Biden slanders a dead man, family grieves
While the national media is busy creating scandal out of the fact that Sarah Palin went to numerous non-Ivy League schools (yes, seriously), the Delaware News Journal has a devastating and disturbing piece on how Joe Biden has repeatedly slandered the man involved in the car crash that killed Biden’s first wife and daughter.
In several public statements over the years, Biden has insinuated that the man who caused the 1972 crash was drunk. The man cannot defend himself. He passed away in 1999. His family grieves.
But hey, who cares about Biden’s lies? Time to slander Gov. Palin and her family some more!
Here’s the intro of the N-J piece, but make sure to read to the end. And check out the comments from people who know Joe Biden best:
Since his vice presidential nomination, Joe Biden’s 2007 statement that a “guy who allegedly … drank his lunch” and drove the truck that struck and killed his first wife and daughter has gained national media traction.
Alcohol didn’t play a role in the 1972 crash, investigators found. But as recently as last week, the syndicated TV show Inside Edition aired a clip from 2001 of Biden describing the accident to an audience at the University of Delaware and saying the truck driver “stopped to drink instead of drive.”
The senator’s statements don’t jibe with news and law enforcement reports from the time, which cleared driver Curtis C. Dunn, who died in 1999, of wrongdoing.
“To see it coming from [Biden's] mouth, I just burst into tears,” Dunn’s daughter, Glasgow resident Pamela Hamill, 44, said Wednesday. “My dad was always there for us. Now we feel like we should be there for him because he’s not here to defend himself.”
Biden spokesman David Wade said Wednesday that the senator “fully accepts the Dunn family’s word that these rumors were false.”
It’s unclear who first suggested alcohol was a factor in the crash, but since Barack Obama tapped Biden to be his running mate on Aug. 23, The New York Times, National Public Radio and The Economist have run stories that characterized Dunn as a drunken driver.
“The rumor about alcohol being involved by either party, especially the truck driver, is incorrect,” said Jerome O. Herlihy, a Delaware Superior Court judge who was chief deputy attorney general and worked with crash investigators in 1972.
“If it were some part of a cause of the accident, there would have been a charge, simply because if you’re driving under the influence and kill someone in the process — whether it’s the wife of a U.S. senator or anybody else — there’s going to be a charge,” he said.
Herlihy said investigators discussed several possible causes for the crash, including that Biden’s first wife, Neilia, turned her head and didn’t see the oncoming truck as she exited the intersection of Limestone and Valley roads on Dec. 18, 1972.

This is just terrible in so many ways, a tragedy that need not have happened. Then, so many years after the fact to print or otherwise report things so inaccurately makes it that much more devastating.
And, yet, people will still think the claims of journalistic bias or ineptitude are false, imagined or made up. Amazing! Utterly amazing!
moonshot,
I’m sorry for your loss. Sometimes we have to set aside the politics. I respect your position.
I imagine that could work with honest people. But Senator Biden is indeed a professional victim perpetually upset about something, morally outraged 24/7 and “mad as hell and isn’t going to take it anymore”.
Morning lgm, being a jerk again I see. Yes Biden apologized although he knows he was lying and lies about the apology as ‘a rumor’; a rumor he started and knew it was a lie when he started it.
And that lgm has nothing to do with Karl Rove, Haiburton or the color of the White House table linen. News blip for you teacher man: Everybody suffers tragedy-everybody. For most people you will be little aware of it-they deal with it like adults. They get on with their lives. They may well suffer life long grief-they don’t glory in it as the Kennedys and Biden do.
And this is hardly the “worst of Joe Biden”. If the man is a Saint I’ll leave to God, but Biden is a cynical, lying jerk-it is hard to have sympathy for the man although I am obligated to do so.

Hey Obama-Want to see Bitter?
Look at your wife.
Losing your child is a nightmare that I cannot even stand to think about let alone have happen. To lose your child and your wife at the same time would probably set me over the edge and someone would find me wandering the streets, babbling incoherently. The grief and horror of such an event is not something anyone should ever have to go through.
However, that being said, that does not give ANYONE the right to lie about the person involved, especially to further your own ambitions.
No, Biden should not be given a pass on this matter. If anything, it is nothing but another prime example of Biden’s character. Even in the death of his wife and child, he cannot find it in himself to tell the truth, to be honest.
Now, I am only speaking for myself, but I could not stand the thought of my child, up there somewhere, being ashamed at her father for telling a lie. I don’t do it now, have promised my childen that I would never do such a thing, and I sure as hell wouldn’t just because they are no longer around to hear it.
It would be an insult to them and would dishonor their memory. A death like that is bad enough. No need to cheapen it.
Well, looks like either someone is late for school, they had the day off or they are playing hooky. Don;t let mommy find out. She might put you on restriction from her computer.
Unless your last name is Kennedy.

Thanks again, RabbidSquirrel.
I said that I can’t bash him for my own personal reasons. I didn’t say that what happened with Biden shouldn’t be discussed. It’s a touchy subject for me.
PS:Don’t ever call me moonbat again. It makes you look like a unintelligent buffoon. (This is not directed at RabbidSquirrel.)
I can’t dispute that. I was merely trying to point out to supersean, and anyone one else who thinks the same way, that while we may condemn someone’s actions, as Christians we still pray for that person to find healing and peace. Love your enemy….
*which isn’t the same thing as endorsing them or their actions, for anyone who still doesn’t get it*
moonshot, I hope you won’t mind if I include you in my prayers.
Be well.
No one here is bashing Biden for blaming the other driver. I believe my earlier post stated that I empathized with him. The issue is the fact that Biden is telling a blatant lie in regards to Dunn being high on alcohol. That is worthy of being called out. Also, saints do not lie (at all, I hope), to besmirch another person’s reputation for any reason, let alone for political gain.
WTH does Reagan, Bush, Iraq or Bin-Laden have to do with Biden telling lies? Is this some more of your weak attempts at moral equivalence? Sorry, you failed miserably.
No, Bush did not go after Bin-laden. The conflict in Afghanistan has been a ‘made for TV’ movie and no one has actually been harmed. Pat Tillman is really alive and living on an island with JFK and Elvis. You caught us.
No intention to offend anyone here, but if Biden is having reality issues over his wife and daughter’s deaths from so many years ago, then I sure as hell do not want him to be a heart-beat away from the oval office! And the left is worried about Palin?!
No.
One man was tortured for years, then worked to reconcile with his enemies for the good of the people of both countries.
Two other men live in the past. One wants to continue to rail about a terrible wrong that thousands of US soldiers died to correct from 1861 to 1865 and another rages about a sad and tragic accident that was heartbreaking for all involved.
Only one of the men has his eyes forward, looking to a better tomorrow.
The others are addicted to rage, helplessness, and self pity.
Who do you want to follow? The bitter or the proud?
I agree completely.
Yet I think Biden has a plan here beyond just getting votes.
His son, a survivor of the accident, is a LOBBYIST in DC.
I think Biden is trying to keep future campaign questions away from himself and his lobbyist son by ‘reason of sympathy.’
You’re a scumbag Biden, to lie about this for any reason and I only wish the other family would sue the crap out of you.
Damn, the obama-biden ticket is corrupt and shallow beyond belief.
No prob, take care. I’ve had to personally terminate life-support for a couple of family members and then go through the hospice process to the end. I would much rather do that than to ever have someone taken away from me without getting a chance to say good-bye. Its a good year this time… so far.
No offense at all. Thats a great point about reality issues. And I can openly admit that I know nothing about Biden’s personal life, which is the only reason I can try to rationalize a known misrepresentation of something that happened 36 years ago.
Paging Ted Kennedy…..
Biden was drunk when he said those lies, drunk when he called BO a Sambo, drunk when he… well you get the message. The bum is a drunk. He’ll need a few drinks before he debates Palin and makes an ass of himself - remember Bide saying, “Obama sure is clean for a black,” (paraphrased but otherwise accurate quote.)
