Letters of the day
Tons of great e-mail swamping my box. These two stood out:
Michelle,
Being from Massachusetts, something occurred to me today. The feminists have suddenly decided that a mother should be home with her children in lieu of a career. A talk show host in our state today said that there is a “special” bond between “mother” and child (talk show host – Marjorie Eagan, a writer for the Boston Herald).
Since the judiciary in our state legalized gay marriage, may I ask where the “special” bond between “mother” and child is when the parents are two gay men?
I’d love to hear the left address that issue!

And from Joseph H:
I have never before written to express a political opinion in my life. I was skeptical but very interested in McCain’s VP pick. I hoped she would turn out to be the real thing and not just knee-jerk expression of gender politics.
I have two special needs children, (boys 4 and 2), and a 2-month-old daughter. I’m a lawyer and my wife is a doctor. This morning we watched Fox News’ recap of Palin’s speech as my wife breast-fed the baby and I fed the boys.
My wife has been appalled at the depths too which the reporters have sunk and the so-called women’s rights advocates who have attacked Palin’s choices.
I was struck by Palin’s Courage. I don’t say that lightly. Here’s what happened: the media attacked a postpartum mother of a DS kid, who also has an unwed teen daughter who is pregnant. Thye attacked her at her weakest in her most vulnerable spot. They tried to humiliate, shame, and intimidate her before she ever took the podium. Palin looked like they never laid a glove on her. Wow. I think the message she sends is “don’t be afraid.”
Don’t be afraid of the media attack machine that has all but called you and your family every name in the book.
Don’t be afraid to face down the challenges that life throws you: Dr. tells you that your baby has DS. Don’t be afraid. When you have a kid with special needs you WILL meet a better class of people – the parents of those special needs kids for one – and the people – therapists, teachers, doctors – who devote their lives/carriers to help those kids. Oh by the way – what’s the bonus that comes with your special needs kid? Lifelong unconditional love. So your kid isn’t going to be perfect. Okay, whose kid is?
Don’t be afraid to be a woman with kids and go to work every day.
Don’t be afraid to be a soccer mom and run for mayor with ZERO support against an incumbent to try and make your town better.
Don’t be afraid to succeed – don’t stop at your town improve your state. Run for Governor and win.
Teenage daughter gets pregnant. What to do now? Erase the mistake? Hide? Get out of politics? Or teach your kids the toughest but most important lesson of all: that decisions have consequences. If you make a bad decision, you don’t run away from it. You face it. You face it. Not alone, but with your family standing right next to you. What do you want to teach your kids: the easy way out or moral courage? You teach your kids what real courage is by example.
(My God, her father must be a very proud man today.)
Michelle, tell your kids that’s what courage looks like. Michelle, you tell America that this is what courage looks like. Between McCain and Palin, these may be the two toughest people we have ever nominated.
I donated to McCain today. For the first time.

Wow. I think we have a revolution on our hands.
Wow, indeed.
Will the poll numbers reflect this?
I agree; it’s the ’success’ part that the feminists cannot deal with! It is simply beyond their ken that a feminie woman, who decides to do the typically feminine along with the career thingy, etc, can succeed!!
I found out last night that my wife and I are going to have our first child. That last letter has me in tears. That should be posted on the McCain/Palin website. I, like Joseph, have made my first political contribution. I have hope that my child may live in a world free from the hand of government pulling and shaping his/her life. God bless.
Who cares?
oops–in a hurry
feminie=feminine
The second letter is especially moving. It brings a new insight into how despicable the medias behavior was.
Thank you for sharing them.
Great letter Joseph H. Bravo
Awesome letters! I think you’ll be getting more and more of these letters over the next couple months.
I think the message is “don’t f*ck with me”, and I mean that nicely. She is the real deal– bring it on, Biden.
Three words: It’s. About. Time!
Doo
May God continue to Bless you
congrats Papa!!
BTW, I also donated today, first time in a long time.
Talked to some of the women I work with.
Reaping the whirlwind comes to mind. Lots of women furious at the treatment of Sarah Palin by the dems.
Y’all just keep on relying on your polls like you did in 2000 and 2004, ok?
The sneaky conservative base of the GOP will take care of those polls in November.
Rush Limbaugh said it best today:
Sarah Palin “is an ordinary American who has done extraordinary things.”History is being made, so get out of her way.
Lion,
ddi you catch bidet on ABC this morn?
he started with well I missed part of it and went right into a point by point rant what she said SNICKER
I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Maybe they will in a month or two, but who knows? For now conservatives are best advised to to count what blessings they have.
And if Palin-McCain loses, maybe all of MM’s readers can move to Alaska. Might be a good idea in any event.
If everyone so moved would volunteer to work to get out the vote in their neighborhood, we might just turn this think into a landslide.
Yes I agree – it takes courage to leave 5 children (one with down syndrome & one pregnant) at home and go to a job that requires 24/7 attention.
And it takes a really special kind of courage to do this in front of millions of people.
Palin is doing precisely what McCain needs her to do: serve as a chisel to drive into one of the fault lines of donkey party identity politics: the “feminist” vote.
Bloc-vote politics based on superficial characteristics like race or gender depend upon the following axiom: When everyone is agreeing, no one is thinking. The venemously hostile reaction to Palin by the donkey elite, coming on the heels of Hillary’s “Sexism-doomed-my-candidacy” claim is forcing people to think very hard.
Independent thinking, and believing what you see with your own eyes instead of reflexively swallowing the party line, are anathema to modern-day liberalism.
That’s why Palin’s selection is such a master-stroke by the McCain campaign: not only does she shore up and energize what was until recently a decidedly unenthusiastic conservative base, she also throws the enemy into confusion and turmoil.
This should be the next GOP ad:
Sarah Palin has convinced liberal feminists that being a stay-at-home mom is not a bad thing. That’s better than change you can believe in, that’s change you can see.
Terrific point! And precisely why the left hates Palin so much – she has the moral certitude and caliber that would never “erase the mistake.” She has the courage to face life, not destroy it. She has the intelligence and competency to both raise a family and govern a wealthy, important state. In short, the left hates Palin because she is the antithesis to everything they stand for – she invalidates their claims that a self-actualized female places herself above family, above becoming a mother, and exposes their hypocracy for all to see!
Go get’em, Vice President Palin!
Joseph H, I haven’t met you or your wife, but you are clearly among the classiest people in this country!:-)
There is a difference between a feminist and a champion for women. Feminists are harder on women than any group I can think of. Men don’t keep women down – women do!

Ron who isn’t involved? that came across as a projection.

So single dads are useless? There are thousands of men raising their kids alone. And would this woman rather a kid spend its childhood in foster care, being bounced from place to place, than in a stable, loving family with two dads?
I love this from Fr. Jonathan on FOX News:
bfly
the dem slacks and media hacks are still reeling funny stuff.
Ah Mookie, single dads are not useless. No one said that actually. Lynne G was simply pointing out the fact that people don’t seem to care about a mother’s bond with a gay couple, but they seem to really care when it comes to Sarah Palin. It’s pointing out hypocrisy.
Holy smack. Joesph I printed that letter out and put it on my bulletin board. You are so right. They tried to hit her in the soft underbelly, only to find she could take it.
What Gov Palin did wasn’t so much ballsy or tough as much as it was courageous. I have complete faith that she will survives the slings and arrows that are about to come her way. The MSM is just like a spoiled child who has been told no. The fit pitching will become worse before it gets better.
We’re quite content with you staying in the woods with all the morons in Oregon and Washington. How does raw salmon tatse there lumberjack? You swipe at them fishys with your grizzly bear friend?
PS: You sound jaded. Get God in your life.
Too true bansharia!
Obviously, I do. You don’t care what I am curious about, but you sure are quick to tell people what you think…
Different strokes I guess…
You can write the word ‘courage’, but that’s as close as you’ll ever get to it.
aaaaaaand…he bunts.
No; we’d rather the ‘kid’ stay with it’s biological mom & dad from the beginning…
Get some manners in yours. You could start with coherence, if that helps.
Gov. Palin is a wonderful example for our young girls and women – finally!
But, but, but…there are White people in the Republican party! RACIST!
But that goes both ways. Conservatives are quick to point out that a child needs a strong male presence in their lives to be raised right whenever the subject of two women raising a child together comes up and vice versa for two men.
Who wouldn’t? But that’s not reality. So what about the thousands of kids that don’t get to stay with it’s biological mom and dad from the beginning and don’t get adopted by heterosexual couples for whatever reason. Are they just SOL?

Honestly, Rob I like the poll stuff too but Um, let’s put it this way, it’s going to be a photo finish and one slight miscalulation from either side can screw it up.
with all due respect>
Sarah Palin is not brave she is not bold, she is not new, she is not invented by speech writers
SHE IS dime a dozen AMERICAN
handle THAT dem slacks and media hacks!
Mookie, You make an excellent point regarding single Dads. I would venture to say, there is no bond like a bond between a child and their parent – father or mother!
And, is it just possible that the Palin family has been able to handle all the daily family routines because of the contribution of Mr. Palin?
Great letters! I also admire her daughter for choosing life (even though imo that shouldn’t be a choice) and for coming out and facing the world after all of the horrible things that were said.
You know…I haven’t even begun to express my feelings of how they are acting, what they are saying as it concerns me…a stay-at-home father. What will it mean when I return to work?
and we see how the obamination has handled that one…surfing in Hawaii…
Polls should be taken with a grian of salt but the latest CBS one has Obama and McCain tied. Not good for the “one”.

Sorry if you mistook my New York attitude for manners. Do they use toilet paper where you’re from or are leaves still in style?
You’re right Mookie, many conservatives do say that. Those same individuals tend to make sure there is both a male and female presence in the lives of their children. The Palin family happens to have both a mother and father figure, so the mother’s bond thing doesn’t hold water with them either.
However, this isn’t about what conservatives say. This is about how people on the other side of the aisle don’t give a crap about it until they can use it to go after a conservative candidate. That’s what Lynne G. was pointing out.
Now THAT’s putting it into perspective.
She’s just an everyday American Mom doing her best to raise her family and get through life the best she can. Just like millions of other American Moms and Dads.
ret a stay at home Father?
huh??
and it’s also not my fault.
You’re arguing the effects instead of the cause. Start your program before the ‘kid’ gets conceived.
Exactly. Lynne G’s argument undercuts that importance.
Not every woman is a good mother. And to make this 100% clear, I am not saying that in reference to Sarah Palin. Not in the least. There are mothers that take off on their kids every single day. One of my closest friends is a proud single dad of two amazingly adorable kids. Their mom left him and the kids when she met someone else online and moved up to Canada to be with him. She hasn’t said a single word to those kids in over four years. The bond between a child and father is equally important as that of a mother.
Bfly again you hit the nail on the head!! keep it coming
they are crippled
mookie psssst this thread is not about you.
Last I checked, these children had two parents. And last I checked, she’s not leaving them.
Pathetic attempt at sexist condescension.
And so is the person who wrote Michelle.
I’m sorry, I must have missed the memo about including personal anecdotes in our posts. Guess Ret. Firefighter is out of luck too.
Oh my goodness,
What a wonderful letter. Nice to have a good story to have today. Thanks Michelle for being you.

NO SALE
You never know what strength and grace God blesses you with until you take on what He has asked you to do. The negative comments I get about homeschooling always come from those who look at my job as if they would have to do it tomorrow. I think the negative comments about Gov. Palin come from the same self-centeredness. No one has asked me to raise 5 kids and be the Vice President..but, obviously someone has asked Gov. Palin..and if she is as grounded in Christ as I think she is, she and her family will be just fine.
Are you raising your kids alone? I’m sorry, I know you’ve talked about your kids before but I can’t remember if it’s you’re doing it on your own.
VIVA THE REVOLUTION
Congratulations!! You and your wife will soon discover how much your own parents love you because their is no love like that of parents for their children.
“Behold! Children are a gift of the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward.”
Pay no attention to the pseudo-concern behind the curtain. The libs are gathering kindling for the abortion fight.
These letters sound just like the comments my friends are making. I follow politics, but I have a lot of friends that up till now have not. They are energized by Sarah and see themselves in her. Up till now politics have been a turn off to them. Sarah Palin is going to redefine feminism, and that is what the feminists are so upset about. I have never thought that the feminists represent my values… Sarah Palin does! We are charged up and ready to work for Sarah. This is going to be really interesting.
Yup.
great letters, particularly the second. enlightening too, was that his thoughts had nothing to do with policy, yet you don’t hear the left give her credit for any of the things he listed. on dooce.com today heather armstrong lambasted mccain’s choice for vp, saying, “I am angry. I am infuriated. And I don’t think I would be if Sarah Palin were a qualified or competent choice as McCain’s running mate.” and then linking to this article as “evidence” – note the “facts” fall conveniently short of the full scope – and then topping it all off with a apology to foreigners. i know she’s not the msm, but her thinking quite well encapsulates the thinking of the left, and the glaring intolerance and bigotry of anyone that falls to their right.
it’s almost cute listening to the o’bots be all the sudden concerned with mothers staying at home with their children and a candidates background and experience. michelle o doesn’t stay home with her kids, and compared to sarah palin, well, obama’s experience doesn’t even compare. and NOW they’re digging into her record, when they should have done that in the first place instead of focusing their vitriol on a pregnant 17-year-old.
so they want to believe in their candidate because he’s inspirational. FINE. GO RIGHT AHEAD. but we’ve all the sudden “got our fingers in our ears” because we won’t wake up to the “real” sarah palin. i read the article, i watched the real sarah palin last night, and believe me, i’m awake. wide awake. i’ll take a woman who, in a little more than a decade rose from the mayor of a small town to a successful governor of a state and actually did make some very hard decisions in those years and might have even made a few mistakes, to a man who has shown us not much more than the ability to read a teleprompter and pose for photo opps.

Great sentence, I believe it’s true.
Evidence of God’s existance is not in that we do not suffer, but in how we suffer.
This may be the best summary of the most despicable smear in American politics since the disgusting attack on Clarence Thomas.
And the next point shows this lady’s strength and character!
I think every conservative in the country should put a bumpersticker on their cars that shows just a tube of lipstick on it. If anything was clear from this lady’s speech, it is this: Barack Obama and Joe Biden are in trouble and they know it.
It is cliche at this point, and I am not sure it would ever happen, but can you imagine the howls of outrage the press would unleash if any of the baseless attacks against Palin had been had said about either Obama? Can you imagine the outrage if any of the things said about Bristol Palin had been said about either Obama child?
Sogood,
it is noted that they and you refer to her as “Sarah” and that is exactly why
the dem slacks and media hacks are affraid!!
ps. get new friends if they don’t care about thier world they won’t care about you, surround yourself with .. well you get it.
Michelle’s kids seem to be doing just fine with a working mom, don’t they?
War,
papa barak wouldn’t let his kids be PUNISHED with a baby……
:::::BARF:::::
My mother in law sent me this email earlier today. We all live here in the Liberal Soviet Republik of Kalifornia.
Yes, she spelled her last name incorrectly (and quickly followed up with another email):
Excited? Yes. I think there are a lot of people very, very excited about the ticket. Much more than what the MSM’s willing to acknowledge.
Great letters!
I want to add that Sarah Palin has additional executive experience – as a wife and mother. She seems to be like most women I know, the head of her household. I’m the one who organizes and keeps track of the activities in our household, helps the kids with their homework, do the grocery shopping, schedules the drs, dentists, lessons, has the heart-to-heart talks about boyfriends and feelings, etc. My husband certainly shares in the work, but looks to me for the details. And if I read the Obamas correctly, Michelle Obama does the same things for her family.
This executive multi-tasking is what most women do well. I have met a few men who also have these talents, but most do not. And we do all this and usually a full-time job too.
I was wondering the same thing, then I heard a caller ask Rush today. He said to be careful what you wish for — it could be 20 points higher for Juan/Sarah and then erode over the next few weeks, giving the libs something to gloat about.
He also pointed out that the majority of pollsters work for lib outfits, whose samples can contain small percentages of GOPers. According to El Rushbo, the seven days before we vote are the days when polls count.
Mookie, I was going to try to explain to you that the feminists are the ones who are being hypocritical. But then I realized you’re being deliberately dense. Grind your axe elsewhere, please.
This is interesting. Only 24 million watched Biden, compared to 37 million who watched Palin.
Yes, and can anyone explain to me why it is perfectly accceptable and celebrated that Jamie Lynn Spears can have a baby as a teenage, unwed mother, but for some reason, different standards are applied to Britol Palin?
I know, I know… but it just HAS to be painfully obvious how stupid the left-biased media is…
No. You missed the memo about good anecdotes. Yours sink to the level of Rustyisms.
After seeing and hearing from Palin, why is the focus still on Hillary’s female voters? Sure, maybe some of her voters will switch to McCain because Palin is a woman. However, the genius of picking Palin is that she appeals to the majority of Hillary and Edwards voters: blue-collar white males with union membership who go to church and own a gun. Weren’t these primary voters voting more against Obama (for various reasons–some reasonable and others not)than for Hillary?
What about single parent fathers? Are you going to attack them, too? Should we stop single parent fathers from raising children? Lynne G, you are a cowardly homophobe. Grow up!
What axe? Did you read any of my comments? Kids do just fine with working parents, whether they be a mom or a dad. How is that being hypocritical?
The feminists that are attacking Sarah Palin with this ridiculous notion that she’s neglecting her children by becoming VP are discounting the fact that those same children also have a father. They’ve complained for years that society makes them guilty for trying to have it all with kids and job and then they turn around and criticize Palin for trying to have it all with kids and a job. Of course it’s hypocritical.
I have no idea what this means.
Lynne G and especially Joseph H – thank you! I’m to emotional right now to go into details but I just wanted to say thanks.
Not just a working mom, but a working mom that is ambitious and motivated. A working mom who is…just like Sarah Palin. *GASP*
#84
Lynne G. wasn’t the one suggesting that a two gay men couldn’t raise a child. Read the letter again, I think it’s Marjorie Eagan you have a problem with.
The folks who called Hillary feminazi are now feminists.
You all sound like battered souls – you know they personality type: they put all of their love into their party and it repays them with an old dumb guy and a hockey mom.
You all deserve better and you should ask your party if Palin is the best woman the republicans have to offer?
If she is, then you will lose elections for the next 30 years.
Exactly. These kids are going to be just fine. They’re acting like she’s going to leave them to fend for themselves in an igloo.
Palin is the best roll model to come along and the libs can’t stand it. What better way to raise her children than to show them how strong parents behave. She is resonating with women on a level I haven’t seen before. Just think of how the Obamas’ will feel if he’s beated by a war hero and a hocky mom. That’s more historic than anything Hillary would have done.
The second letter brought tears to my eyes. That letter is dead on. Libs build their political careers on quiters. Conservatives are fighters. Great stuff.
It’s paraphrasing a line from “As Good as it Gets.”
And thank you, Joseph H. Someone asked on here yesterday, do you want a hockey mom talking to Iran? Yes I do, when that hockey mom can face down a media storm the likes of which Obama has certainly never seen (or will see), and hand them back their asphalt with a smile. You are right. She embodies ‘do not be afraid.’
Meanwhile, Obama can’t even get his own followers to take his advice and lay off the family. Isn’t one of the qualities of a leader… leading?
hit the nail on the head, exactly, Joseph H.
Sarah reminds me of Margaret Thatcher,
Indira Ghandi, Benazair Bhutto, Golda Meir, Una Merkel. Strong and courageous women who rose to the challenge when their respective countries called them.
Bravo! Kudos to Sarah and to John McCain for having the foresight to ask her to be on his team. And what a team for the ages!!!

Neither is acceptable. And the reason the Palin situation is relevant versus the Spears pregnancy is that Lynn Spears has no bearing on the reproductive rights of American women.
I remember this kind of thinking from my teenaged days, before I understood what being a sore loser was like. This dear, is a very definition bunch of garbage.
So let me put it this way. Is Obama the best you have to offer?
Because if he is.. you will lose elections for the next 30 years.
