Obama on Fox: Weigh in
A lot of readers are upset about the decision by Fox News to put Barack Obama on the airwaves on the night of John McCain’s convention speech.
I wouldn’t get too worked up about it. I doubt much of consequence will come of the appearance. Obama has continually failed to follow rule number one of politics: Manage expectations. It’s all hype, followed by fizzle, followed by excuses, blame, and whining for his own failure to deliver.
Why would tonight be any different for Obama? Right?

***
Another thought: Obama says he’ll meet with the tyrants of the world without preconditions.
Wonder if he has the same policy with American cable networks?

Anything outside Manhattan is confusing, now where did I put my latte while I was doing the pike.
I have a feeling there are some pre-conditions. Last night Dennis Miller was asking Bill to clarify certain things and the way he looked made me wonder. He of course always like to come off as fair and balanced on certain issues…I get the idea he likes the approval of his MSN peers in certain areas.
Bill O’Reilly isn’t usually too softball with people. I mean it seems like that would ruin his show. Maybe I’m wrong, I mean I don’t watch him EVERY night, but when I maybe a few times a week, he seems to challenge ANYONE on issues.
I guess we’ll just have to see, but my guess is that Obama will be in the hot seat to some degree. Sarah Palin upped the stakes a bit by talking Energy Policy (no matter what the press claims, she did talk issues). I don’t think Obama can stay in his marshmallow world anymore. He’s going to have to answer at least a few tough questions.
I can’t stand O’Reilley. I’m not sure what he is but he’s no Conservative. I can’t stand H&C b/c of Colmes. Fox needs some new shows.
Worst case might be the best case. If Obama vs O’Reilly turns into a titanic strugle of good vs evil people will watch and talk about it. Loons will have more ammo that Fox is in the tank for McCain. If O’Reilly pitches some softball questions and Obama response is: “Um ahh um Sarah Palin um distorted my record.” Show is over. All O’Reilly needs to do is ask easy questions outside of the prepared talking points. No news, no distraction.
If I was the head of the RNC I would tell O’Reilly to feel free to interview Obama, but find somewhere else to do it. The RNC is renting the Xcel Energy Center, so if you want to interview him you pay for your own place!
I would suggest outside with the other loons.
The BOR is in the bag for The ‘0′…hear him try and equivocate 8 yrs as a state rep. voting present except for the bill that would allow killing the baby after a botched abortion to running a business or a city and it’s budget? He’s never run a lemonade stand never mind a budget for a city of any size or the budget for the largest state in regards to natural resources. Besides the BOR is a softball pitcher..talks a good story but that’s it, all BS. I’ll not be watching O’Reilly and his chum The ‘0′.
So many letters…. so little time
Even just a few years ago, I stil had customers in the North East that thought Indians (Native Americans) still ran wild west of the Mississippi River.
And “No”, not all Texans wear cowboys hats and own horses.
You should see the looks I get from Manhattanites when I tell them that even though I’m a New Yorker I wear plaid flannel shirts and swing a pretty mean chainsaw.
For the past few months, O’Reilly has been going through all sorts of wild unnatural gyrations to demonstrate his unbiased (read: non-conservative) bona fides. In light of the machinations – high level talks with top FNC management – required to get Barry on the network, expect a lot of big, fat slow pitches over the plate with little follow-up. Sure, Bill will throw a couple tough questions and possibly follow-ups in there for the target demographic, but don’t expect him to really pin Barry down on anything. It will be like trying to nail Jello to the wall.

Actually, O’Reilly is going to interview Obama in New York.
I definitely think it’s going to be a softball interview. His reaction to Dennis Miller last night pretty much confirmed it. Dennis was suggesting some hard hitting questions, and O’Reilly pretty much said he couldn’t ask that.
If it’s anything like his interviews with Michael Moore, at the DNC four years ago, don’t waist your time watching. That was pathetic!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt that way. He has been pathetic in his pandering to Obama.
Yeah, they don’t know jack do they. We go bass fishing.
I’d bet a dollar to a doughnut you won’t see anything in the O’Reilly interview that you wouldn’t get from the MSM.
So, Billy boy, why bother?
Ummm, they may actually be on to something there…
I think that for all of BO’s tough talk about being proud of his status as an outcast among journalists and celebrities, he secretly wishes he was accepted by the people who oppose him the most. He is enamored with the elite leftists and he wants to get in the club.
I would like to see that worthless “Body Language” woman analyze him after the interview. Too bad we already know that genuflection doesn’t indicate objectivity.
Does Obama have a fat ring O’Reilly can kiss?
Cow Tipping. Now, that’s some good wholesome fun for everyone. Except for the cow.
I’m expecting a softball interview. He has changed over the years, he’s less scrappy and more concerned with image.
The old Bill O’Reilly would have seen through the ploy of an interview request for tonight, and scheduled it for another time. This one is just brags about getting the interview, like there’s no coincidence there whatsoever.
So that’s how you make a milkshake…
I am hoping that Bill gives him a tough interview and won’t let him wimp out in his responses.
I can’t remember who was being interviewed last night on FOX but he kept saying… ‘Even your viewers could figure that out’ or “even your viewers can see xxxxxx” I was hoping some one was gonna pop him.
He mentioned on his radio show that the Obama camp told him it was to detract from the RNC and he did it anyway. His reason was that he has to look at which is a bigger story. How can he call himself objective if he turns down an interview with the guy he’s been saying won’t come on the show.
Realistically, McCain knows this and nothing of great significance will happen until 9:00.
Don’t expect O’Reilly to try to pin Obama to the wall, he’ll be about the same as he was with Hillary and Kerry. I’m just waiting to see how many Uh’s and Um’s BO says. As noted many times before, he isn’t too eloquent off the cuff, so this should be interesting.
Speaking of pitbulls, she IS ferocious! And stunning to boot. She has a Major League future. She seems to be a strong conservative and knows her stuff. She should enter politics; she could give as well as she gets. I won’t even hold it against her that she’s a lawyer.
Well, we know there was at least one precondition: Bill must air at least a portion of the interview tonight.
We need to temper our expectations. Bill talks a big game, but he’ll go easy on Obama, just like he did with Hillary. Part of that is simply being respectful to a presidential candidate (I agree), but Bill also wants to encourage the big names to come on his show, and he doesn’t do this by antagonizing them.
Expect the first few minutes to be smiley Bill joking about how “we didn’t think we’d ever get to talk to you”, etc. Bill will ask simple, pointed questions. Obama will answer some and dodge others. There will be little, if any, follow up. This will not be a debate. Bill will leave it to the viewers to decide who is right, and whether Obama answers the questions.
Unless Obama dodges everything, or makes a major gaffe, this should be a win for him. He gets to say he took on Bill O’Reilly, but Bill is hardly the interrogator he makes himself out to be when it comes to big names.
O’Reilly is just looking for a feather for his cap, a shine on his ego, and validation from his “friends” at places like ABC, where he used to work.
He has no intention whatsoever of being hard on Obama. I’m not going to watch the interview. It will be a waste of time!
Oh, and he thinks we’re “right wing” kooks!
Ted Baxter (BOR) said he was leaving the convention last night to fly out and interview the Agitator. If I were B-O, I wouldn’t want to go anywhere near thousands of fired-up conservatives and esp. not near Sarah’cuda. I’d be scared if I were him, being a manchild and all.
BTW, are you the same MadChef that posts those great recipees at RecipeZaar?
What bugs me about this is the fact that the Messiah has chosen TONIGHT, of all nights, prior to Senator McCain’s night in the spotlight to deign to acquiesce to the interview. He’s desperate to be back under the kleig lights onstage in a pathetic attempt to blunt the impact of McCain’s moment in the sun. Obama is an insecure little man.
By land, sea, and now air. I wonder if Bill has the guts to ask him about the illegal invaders.
Not to be a buzzkill, but we have to keep on McCain about his pandering to groups who support this illegal activity.
O’Rielly has been doing everything he can to get this interview. Meaning, he has not persued any stories of late (like the last four months or more)that would offend the Messiah. Tonight’s “interview” will be a total wash. O’Reilly is not much of a journalist and a poor interviewer at best. I expext him to be wiping the brown stuff off his nose by the end of the chit chat. I’ll wait for Rush to summarize for me tomorrow during his show (if he even bothers).
O’Reilly will softball Obama. He will be soft on him to show he is “fair” and he wants to have access to him.
The BOR is no different than the Sunday morning left wing mouth pieces doing interviews…he’s no harder in an interview than the world’s best softball pitcher Larry King. The BOR is more talk than show anymore as stated above. He’s comfy in his position and not about to create waves.
Actually, the Obama campaign had a fresh bag of brown stuff waiting for O’Reilly at the airport so he could get a head start on the flight to NYC.
This has been bothering me all morning. I just don’t know why Bill O gets sucked into this agreement knowing full well what the Obama campaign is up to! Was he forced to air this or else? Did he ask Obama if he could do the interview tonight and show it later? Or was it a quid pro quo…tonight or else?
What? Bill O’Reilly is still on tv?
Insecurity and a desire to “belong”.
I’ve lost the last bit of respect that I had for O’Riley after playing into the Dem’s hands, and delivering just the spin that they want. No Spin Zone? Riiight.
O’Riley is just not very smart, but his appeal had been that he was (WAS) one of the few non-liberal voices on TV. Now he bends over backwards to look “fair and balanced”, thinking that if he panders to the left a little that they will accept him. That’s a stupid premise that will never work.
I now turn on O’Riley mainly to see if Michelle or Laura Ingraham is on.
No, he really isn’t, even though he tries to brag about his Harvard Kennedy School of Government degree every chance he gets. And I like it when he tries to become a lawyer on his show. Know it all pompous a…
The only time I do watch it is when Laura is on. If at all…anymore.
I have let Fox News and Bill O’Reilly know exactly how I feel. McCain and the GOP deserve the same respect as they gave the Dems last week. Bill is only doing this for ratings, not for us. We already know Barack Obama.
Why not interview Sarah Palin? She is the one (did I call her the “one” ooohhh, I just felt a chill run down my leg…) who everyone in the media seems to not understand.
BTW, did you guys see her audience share for last night. She darn near matched the “Messiah” in ratings. Without all of the massive build-up and no Greek columns!
Be afraid Democraps, be very afraid. That ‘bump in the night’ may well be a pitbull without its’ lipstick!!!
I don’t blame Fox for agreeing with having Obama on today. When any major party nominee for POTUS says he will come in for an interview, most news organizations will be “amenable” to the nominee’s schedule even if it is fairly transparent he is trying to subvert his opponent’s potential convention bounce. In BO’s eyes, it is turnabout fair play for the Palin announcement.
He’s a day late and a dollar short. He should have gone on yesterday if he wanted to do some damage control.
By what logic? Turnabout would be to hold the interview for tomorrow.
Even if Bill asked about the invaders, the answer would be “treate humanely…compassion…beacon of hope…American Dream” that doesn’t answer anything. This will be a lot of talk and then when it’s over, you’ll realize that he didn’t actually say anything about what he wants to do and how he’ll get it done.
McCain has the ability and we need to keep his feet to the fire. He needs to emphasize the difference between hispanic and illegal alien and take a stand against the latter to gain support of the former along with the rest of us.
Personally, I can’t even stand to watch Bill O’Reilly. He’s a philandering, egotistical boob! What surprises me is most of his guest are light years more intellegent than he. I would love to hear their responses to his questions but that’s not what you get with him. He asks and answers…I just don’t have a lick of respect for the man.
Oh no, they [the Obama camp] were so arrogant, they thought Palin would fall flat on her face. And she didn’t.
Why watch either BOR(e) or the One – they will just slobber over each other – disgusting to contemplate.
BORe is all about him sort of like a Marxist community organizer that we know.
This just goes to show every time we “reach across the aisle” we get “B” slapped by someone. McCain did not release his VP pick on Thursday as rumored and he sent a very polite message congratulating THE ONE on his accomplishment.
Did Bill not know this or get the memo that most of the time the night of the acceptance speech most candidates with class would not opt to do something like this? I thought he was for no spin and being “fair and balanced”? Dittos to cblesz #131!
THE ONE may be gaffetastic and may not be able to answer a question without it either a) being above his paygrade or b) 97,000 uhs, ers, or uhmmmms, but this is beyond “fair and balanced” and I think it could do some damage. People all over the place are very ticked about this.
Here is a new word for ya Bill- mendacity! LOOK IT UP!
I don’t understand the thinking of O’Reilly. Fox news keeps saying that this is McCain’s night. Why can’t O’Reilly put this interview on next week. He’s just showing half of it tonight, and the other half next week anyway.
Just saw on Fox that the convention last night was viewed by 37 million people, just short of the DNC convention.Be afraid Obama, be very afraid!!
I am more concerned about the Giants-Redskins game overlapping with Mc Cain’s speech than O’Reillys interview of Obama. The game starts at 7ET and can go on till 11ET. Mc Cain’s speech is at 10ET. If the game is competitive then Mc Cain will lose a lot of TV audience (My guess). What do you guys think? Shoul Mc Cain delay his speech?
Obviously, this stunt by Barry wreaks of desperation. O’Reilly has been chasing him for months asking for specifics about his plans for the country, and Barry’s been doing the ole Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive & Dodge routine avoiding FNC and O’Rielly. Now, only because he’s being burried by McPalin and the incredible momentum Sarah brought to the campaign, he’s going to thumb his nose at MoveOn and all the other left-wing wacknuts who have been urging an FNC boycott and crawl to O’Rielly in a vain attempt at recapturing some relevance.
Face it Barry, like a sprinter running a marathon, you burned bright, but burned out too early. The weight of your gaffs, lies, half-truths, and mis-steps has dragged you down. You’re on your back on the mat, looking at the glare of the lights on the ceiling wondering what happened.
O’Reilly did a good job with Hillary (IMHO), but I’m afraid that the circumstances surrounding this interview, the deal-making and desperation on both sides required FNC to surrender something to get the interview. Result: O’Rielly will have benn rendered impotent. I’m not expecting much, though I’m hopeful for some tough questions to pin Barry down. Then again, I think I’d be happier if he just continues evading straight answers to direct questions while stuttering and stammering like usual! ; )
I don’t mind his being interviewed, I might mind when they air it. I’m sure it won’t be live, right?
It will be a fluff fest.
hey, anyone? can obama’s camp still raise money? drudge says that he has raised 8 million since the next VP’s speech last night. Is it only the rep. that can’t?
i thought that you could only contrib. to the national committee’s now?
Maybe BO’R will find a bag of wrenches to fling at (ala)Obama? If you can dodge a wrench…uh, um, er…oh..wait
[spastic coughing fit]
I do believe that the candidate who opted for public money is now cut off…and the candidate who promised to take public money and then changed his..um, er, hmmm…uh…mind about it can still take the filthy luchre.
After thinking about this some more, Rush’s term “manchild” comes to mind. The Manchild’s interview after the BOR interview was equal to a temper tantrum.
Yes, I am concerned about the football game overlapping. I plan on wearing out my “previous” button. I need DVR! GO GIANTS! And thank the dear Lord football is back. Life is complete!
Freeus ~ I couldn’t agree more about football! Once again, September is here and all seems right with the universe! ; )
Oh…and cow-tipping…15% is standard but for really good service…the sky is the limit
Thats right, my bag, i forgot.
Obama has admitted to O’Reilly that the surge has worked.
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/04/obama-surge-succeeded-beyond-wildest-dreams/
I haven’t seen the interview but I am sure he will take credit for victory.
Look the questions we need asked are as follows.
When did you first meet Ayers?
What is your real relationship with Ayers?
Sorry, but that for me is what we want a solid this is the facts answer to, so we can verify the varacity.
By telling people that he only wants to come on now because he wants to steal McCain’s thunder, and said he will only come on if they show it on McCain’s night. No one(rational people) would question his objectivity if he refused under those circumstances.
Being objective doesn’t mean you can’t do the right thing. A man of character would have said “no thanks”. Instead, Bill has proven he is just as sleazy as the MSM he pretends to despise.
That’s right xblade. I question the timing of all this. Bill O has become the typical media ho.
I don’t watch or listen to Bill O’Reilly. In fact, I rarely listen to any talk radio, and when I do it’s Sean Hannity or Laura Ingraham while I drive my truck. Since I ride my motorscooter most places, that’s not a lot of talk radio.
I’ve heard everything Obama has to say, anyway. It’s the same old thing the left has been saying since I turned eighteen 38 years ago. He may say it better than others in front of a teleprompter, but that doesn’t make it smart.

According to this story [OBAMA: SURGE SUCCEEDED BEYOND ‘WILDEST DREAMS’ - LOL!], the interview will be played in 3 parts next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
OReilly is a stooge and tool for Obama. He undercuts Palin today on the factor and tried, in my view, to paint her as an empty suit, “because he doesn’t know her!” OReilly seems to judge, if he hasn’t talked to them and interviewed them on “his” show, they are not vetted for public worth. I used to enjoy him for the most part but after the Geraldo thing and his soft on OBama bent–He is a pompous butt.
Obama’s Ties to Islam from Newsmax:
From O’Reilly’s prior interviews with Hillary and McCain, it will be more of a softball interview. As he puts it, he is being respectful!
So, I suspect, there will be very little follow up to Obama’s answers.
And, I really do think it is showing weakness (or fear) on Obama’s part to schedule the interview on McCain’s night……..
This was sent to me as an email that was circulating amongst some friends. I found it to be somewhat humorous…:) Airplane Conversation
Barack Obama is sitting next to a little girl on an airplane. He turns to her and says, ‘Let’s talk. I’ve heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.’ The little girl, who had just opened her book, closed it slowly and said to the Obama, ‘What would you like to talk about?’ ‘Oh, I don’t know,’ said the Obama. ‘How about What Changes I Should Make To America? and he smiles.
‘OK, ‘ she said. ‘That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow,and a deer all eat the same stuff – grass – . Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty,
and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you> suppose that is?’
Obama, visibly surprised by the little girl’s intelligence, thinks about it and says, ‘Hmmm, I have no idea.’ To which the little girl replies, ‘Do you really feel qualified to change America when you don’t know s**t?
BOR has been attacking Palin for the last three days it is as if he was hired by the Hussein committee for president.
From listening to his latest commentary he is clearly in the Obama camp just like he was for John Kerry when he continually attacked the Swift Boat Veterans.
BOR will never admit it but he has white guilt syndrome just like the rest of the liberal media.
Bank on a Softball Interview.
.
I won’t be watching.
I like O’Reilly well enough, but the sight of B. Hussein turns my stomach.
The fact that that dried out, hollow, anti-American cheese ball achieved the candidacy is nothing more than a lamentable symptom of America’s present cultural weakness.
It will take another generation or two before the country recovers.
I, for one, am not moved by Snowbama’s alleged eloquence. I am infuriated. I resent being manipulated and that rat does nothing but manipulate.
His obvious collectivism is nothing but an affront to the principles America was founded on and has thrived on. He is perhaps the first truly Anti-American presidential candidate this country has ever seen.
Given his upbringing, foreign education and his background, I’m not really sure that he can even be considered American in any but the narrowest legal sense, and that’s assuming that his citizenship isn’t a fraud to begin with.
Which is probably why he is so popular overseas among people who detest us.
And to think that half the country takes him seriously, indeed, likes him and wants to rely on him! If we needed further proof that the education “system” is shot, there we would have it.
No, I won’t be watching that blowhard bastard on O’Reilly.
and I just watched it…”oh we are in agreement” seemed to be the phrase of the meeting.
I am always reminded of Charles Durning as the Governer in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas whenever I hear the man talk…dancing that little two-step.
So now the surge is working beyond his wildest
dreamsnightmares!and then I switched over to Iron Chef America to avoid damaging my flat panel TV by throwing things at Lindsey Grahamnesty’s image.
cant wait to hear more. I think Bill is fair and this will be the best chance we get to really see what Senator Obama is made of. Hillary did well with her O’Reilly appearance.
Obama needs to be pressed and Bill did what was necessary to get the interview.
I saw this first part and true to form, Obama cannot accept criticism and cannot apologize for being wrong about the surge. You can tell he still wants to negotiate with Iran and will not say he will do anything militarily against them. All he would say is that he can’t show his hand. Ha! He wants this country to be overrun.
.
If you want the straight story on what SnowJoba is really about, what he stands for, and how he thinks (and it’s damned scary) go here and have a read.
http://www.ibdeditorials.com/series8.aspx
or
Investor’s Business Daily: Special Editorial Series – The Audacity of Socialism
This person really is the first truly Anti-American presidential candidate.
IBD’s research is comprehensive and factually solid. And the message is chilling.
A little taste:
From: Obama’s Radical Roots And Rules
From: Young Obama’s Red Mentor regarding Snowjoba’s “childhood mentor up to the age of 18“, Frank Marshall Davis, ‘who fled Chicago after the FBI and Congress opened investigations into his “subversive,” “un-American activities.”‘.
There’s plenty more. Well documented and tightly reasoned. Read it all.
More of what he SAYS he’s gonna do, & not much of HOW.. Same ol Obama..
Bill did a lot of butt-kissin’ towards Obama tonight. Obama comes off as arrogant and will not acknowledge that he made a mistake in not supporting the surge. And Bush is the only man to never say he is sorry, huh?
The worst part of the speech was O’Reilly making a statement about how we should never have went into Iraq and that Al Queda was not there and we caused them to come,…. blah, blah, blah. Sigh. I think it has been proven, that while no links to 9/11 existed with Saddam, the terrorists were operating and training in Iraq. Bush never said that Iraq was involved in 9/11. Those charges were from the left. I do know that Bush’s idea of fighting the terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan, rather than in Nebraska, was a good one.
No matter what Bill O’Reilly and Barack Obama think.
Same old Obama, dancing around the questions. What’s worse is that O’Reilly is a known democrat and it’s showing…
I thought Obama looked PISSED, but he was trying NOT to show it. I also would like to know if that 25 part series is still in the works. “I’ll do this interview with you if you scrub that special and if you air it the night McCain talks.”
