Sanctuary kills: A bloody, needless tragedy in Aurora
How many times do I have to ask: How many more tragedies like this need to occur before Americans finally hold illegal alien sanctuary enablers responsible for their reckless, deadly neglect?
Lord have mercy. One of the victims was a 3-year-old child enjoying ice cream at Baskin-Robbins:
As new questions arose about the man police say is responsible for the tragedy, several hundred friends and relatives gathered Saturday night outside an ice cream shop to mourn three lives suddenly lost.
“It hurts now,” said Vito Kudlis, surrounded by friends as he and his wife, Enely, wept for their 3-year-old son, Marten. “It is freaky. It is crazy.”
Marten, Patricia Guntharp, 49, of Centennial and Debra Serecky, 51, of Aurora all died when a Thursday night collision caused vehicles to careen into the Baskin-Robbins at the corner of South Havana Street and East Mississippi Avenue.
Saturday night, they were remembered in a candlelight vigil. Small children held glow sticks as others added stuffed animals — especially bears — to a memorial.
Francis Hernandez, the man being held for suspicion of vehicular homicide in the deaths, is now being detained by federal immigration officials.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials sent a faxed detainer on Hernandez, 23, at 12:04 a.m. Saturday, indicating his U.S. citizenship is under question, according to Arapahoe County jail officials and federal authorities.
Hernandez has been arrested 16 times in five years in Colorado but apparently has never been deported, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.

Hernandez had been arrested in Denver as recently as July 18 on a traffic stop and charged with numerous crimes, including resisting police, CBI records say. Had he been held on an ICE detainer at that time, he would have been jailed until his case was completed and his sentence served and then deported, a time-consuming process.
Hernandez is now being held on the ICE detainer and for investigation of three counts of vehicular homicide, reckless driving and hit and run in Thursday night’s accident, Aurora police spokesman Lt. John Sopranuk said…
…Dating back to 2003, Hernandez has been arrested for mostly misdemeanor offenses 16 times by police officers in Denver, Longmont, Aurora, Westminster, Lakewood and Broomfield and sheriff’s deputies in Boulder, Gilpin and Arapahoe counties, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records. His charges have included forgery, assault, theft, fraud and driving under restraint.
Sopranuk said Friday that Hernandez was born in California and is a U.S. citizen.
But he added that detectives could find no indication that he had ever held a driver’s license in California or Colorado.
Also according to CBI records, Hernandez, who has 11 aliases and two listed birth dates, has four listed birth places, including Mexico.

I wonder when Geraldo is going to claim this is a failure in the Traffic laws in CO and not an illegal alien problem.

The latest stat I heard had it up to 16 deaths a day of US citizens at the hands of as a result of illegals.
These “sanctuary cities” should be as much a concern for the GOP Congress as energy. Why are Republicans not screaming at Pelosi and Reid for a cut off of federal funds to any community passing sanctuary laws?
I can honestly say that if I were the parent of a child killed by an ILLEGAL that was arrested 16 times and NEVER deported, I would end up in jail charged with murder. Someone would pay.

We the People have the right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The “sanctuary enablers” are denying us those liberties because they have chosen to disregard the laws of our country. Those enablers must be held responsible for their actions. If they are unwilling to uphold the laws they should be removed from office and considered as an accessory to this carnage.

The bottom line is you recognize that it is up to her. This morning’s media narrative is “Why won’t the McCain campaign accept our requests (demands) to interview Sarah Palin? After all, there’s no one more important than us!” Rick Davis (the McCain campaign manager) pointed out on FNS that, given the disrespectful tabloid treatment the media has inflicted on the Palin family, they see no reason grant those requests until some respect is shown.
Now, the campaign has agreed for her to be interviewed on ABC, and the media line is “they caved in to us! Our pressure worked and (with Sally Field tears) we really are important!”

do like the left does. put up a symbolic graveyard with crosses for each American killed by illegal aliens. you do NOT have to put any names up, because that would be intrusive to the victims, unless they specifically requested it, but just by putting up the crosses with the inscription “AMERICAN citizen, killed by an illegal alien” on each cross, with thousands of them. it would make a powerful, lasting statement that the press could not ignore.
These illegals will be protected by a public, taught to be “touchy-feely” and apathic, and by politicians who support that policy, but, in truth, look to the illegals as possible votes. I am so sick and tired of hearing about these “poor people who just want to make a better life in our country.” Give me a break, any decent person who’s going to actually add something to our society will migrate here legally (that means following absolute rules for all the trolls out here). They’ll play by those rules even if it means it takes them longer to get here and life is more difficult in the process. And why… because it’s the right thing to do and they have dignity and principles. And those people I welcome here with open arms.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but for me, the whole strategy of placing her as VP would be for naught. That’s how much of an issue immigration is to me.
You want lower taxes? Enforce current immigration laws so we don’t have to foot the bill for their hospital bills, jail time, criminal activity, drug and gang-related crime etc etc. They do not pay taxes, we pay it for them. If they are gone, then that’s less burden on the taxpayers, and a healthier Social Security and MedicAid system too, not to mention a drop in unemployment levels as there would be work available for Americans and legal immigrants.
There are no redeeming factors for amnesty, except one – more votes for the politicians that support amnesty.

Someone with a set in DC (which is rare, by all accounts), needs to step up and cut off all funding for cities that have declared themselves “sanctuary cities”. If they want to welcome these people in, then the mayors and city councils need to foot the bill for all of their social programs.

When my ancestors came through Ellis Island, some did not get to keep their own surnames, because they did not translate easily during the processing. Now we have so many different cultures (which I do appreciate that most ethnic cultures provide our great country with wonderful differences) with names that do not “track American”, if you will….how do we know who is who, and how do we check their background when they’re lying about who they are in the first place? It makes no difference to the left, one or two comments is all it takes to label the entire blog as either racist or hate filled. Most of the people here are fair minded and open to debate, but a few comments like those 3 and nothing else matters.

Why does the opinion of the left trouble you so? I, myself, & those like me, well we know who’s judgement matters. Seems to me that you are unsure… & that’s OK. When you find yourself you will understand.
If you elect John McCain, amnesty will be the first thing on his agenda. After all, you will have just voted in the man who wrote the last amnesty bill, knowing he was still for amnesty. They will use your vote as proof that you support amnesty even if you don’t.
Gov. Palin would have already have to have agreed to support McCain’s policies before she was offered the VP spot. She won’t save you from McAmnesty. I just hope she doesn’t tell us we’re bigots for wanting the laws enforced. I’d like for her to have a political future after McCains run.

If you vote for amnesty, you will get it. Vote third party for President and conservative American of any party that will stand up for the citizens in House and Senate races.
I disagree, Virginia Patriot. Palin is for drilling in ANWAR, and McCain is not. I can imagine they will have other differences as well, but we can agree that there is still much to learn about her position on these things.
I’m looking forward to her interviews and to the debates.
