She told me she wasn’t Indian but Melungeon. She said that she was forced to come to
Oklahoma as an infant with her family and all but she and a brother died. An Indian
family took them in, and they knew their history and told them about it when they were
old enough to understand. I had sort of forgotten about her until I read this book and

I don’t think very many people would be in condition to keep fighting after a load of buckshot. If they were, I’d be happy to give them another load.

A shotgun is what I keep for home defense. I live alone, so anyone else I see in the house at night has no business being there. I’ve handled shotguns all my life and I’m very comfortable with them. In a situation where I had do what needed to be done without thinking about how, a shotgun would be just the thing.

30 Pieces Of Silver, always remember to keep it pointed in a safe direction. Once I was letting my wife shoot my .38 sub nosed revolver. And one hint, especially for you ladies: When you buy a revolver one great thing to do is take it to a local gunsmith and have them smooth out the trigger pull by smoothing off the burrs and such in the internal mechanism. This will also reduce the trigger pull by 2-3 lbs. and will make it more comfortable to shoot and help you keep your sight on target during that loongggg trigger pull.

When looking, check out the property taxes (you can buy 3 times the house in Texas but the rate is 2.74? in Tarrant County/Ft. Worth and ugly). Also, the proximity to major medical, airports, and actual cost of living. Bought our little bitty second home due to it’s number of miles to the local hospitals and Costco (some things are just important). Lastly, sales tax and personal income tax. The hardest question I’ve ever faced was whether I could live without Mendocino, Carmel, Morro Bay or San Diego. I quickly learned planes fly in both directions and if I’m really suffering withdrawals – I can always watch a movie made there.

My unasked for advice – those that are looking to either retire or relocate, take a one week vacation for each area you’re looking. Chances are there is someone in our little group that can give you first hand knowledge of that area and it’s expenses.

As for a shot gun, I could not disagree more, FAR too many projectiles flying around at once to be safe, especially with others in the house or the next house or apartment over– for home protection a shotgun is no go in my book.
And as for the sound of you racking a round in being a deterrent, let me tell you about a rookie cop I once knew who thought that was a good idea in order to break up a fight in a Mexican bar in Boyle Heights– he didn’t realize that the loud music and screaming pretty much nullified that idea. And he was left with a loaded shotgun and 6 people still going at it that he had to break up and no place to put said shotgun without having to run all the way back out to his unit…

It appears that comment was directed at myself, it has remnants of my post about shotguns for home protection. Let me repeat gun choice is just that a choice, if there was 1 and only 1 perfect HP gun we’d all be using it and there would be no for discussion on the subject. There is positives and negatives on all types of guns we have to choice from, agreed?
As far as racking a shotgun for effect, most home intrusions take place at evening or later night hours, where there is minimal or limited loud noise. I doubt there are many loud pinata parties going on in homes at night where 6 or more partiers are fighting. It may be the case, just highly unlikely.
IMHO no matter which type gun is used the shooter has to be aware of what’s going on behind the intruder.

To the other point, 9+ pellets flying around in an enclosed space= recipe disaster.

I agree that there is no perfect firearm, and it is down to personal choice, however, there are people such as your humble narrator who do have a great deal of experience with this sort of thing and don’t make recommendations based on anything but observed outcomes.

    http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/sports/golf/story/7e911cec07ab30bd862574bc000e11e5?OpenDocument

“The LPGA has received valuable feedback from a variety of constituents regarding the recently announced penalties attached to our effective communications policy,” said LPGA Commissioner Carolyn Bivens. “We have decided to rescind those penalty provisions. After hearing the concerns, we believe there are other ways to achieve our shared objective of supporting and enhancing the business opportunities for every Tour player. In that spirit, we will continue communicating with our diverse Tour players to develop a better alternative. The LPGA will announce a revised approach, absent playing penalties, by the end of 2008.”

Why was there no discussion or statement on the topic?

I saw Representative Tancredo issued a statement on the matter.

Tancredo Criticizes LPGA for Repealing English Only Rule
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) criticized the Ladies Professional Golf Association after the organization decided to repeal its new policy requiring all players to speak English.

“The English policy was aimed at helping players both on and off the course,” Tancredo said. “Now it seems the LPGA has given in to the demands of the politically correct left and ‘immigrant rights’ groups.”

PelosiGate has been ignored by the MSM and many blogs, except for Catholic intelligentsia.

Nancy has been publicly castigated by at least 27 Catholic cardinals, bishops, and clergy. (From The American Papist)

Perhaps the sharpest and most powerful rebuke came from Cardinal Egan:

Like many other citizens of this nation, I was shocked to learn that the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America would make the kind of statements that were made to Mr. Tom Brokaw of NBC-TV on Sunday, August 24, 2008. What the Speaker had to say about theologians and their positions regarding abortion was not only misinformed; it was also, and especially, utterly incredible in this day and age.

We are blessed in the 21st century with crystal-clear photographs and action films of the living realities within their pregnant mothers. No one with the slightest measure of integrity or honor could fail to know what these marvelous beings manifestly, clearly, and obviously are, as they smile and wave into the world outside the womb. In simplest terms, they are human beings with an inalienable right to live, a right that the Speaker of the House of Representatives is bound to defend at all costs for the most basic of ethical reasons. They are not parts of their mothers, and what they are depends not at all upon the opinions of theologians of any faith. Anyone who dares to defend that they may be legitimately killed because another human being “chooses” to do so or for any other equally ridiculous reason should not be providing leadership in a civilized democracy worthy of the name.

The Role of the Defensive Long Gun

Generally, the column of buckshot leaving an unmodifed shorter barreled shotgun will stay together for a little past one yard, after which it tends to spread approximately one inch per yard. This means that most shotguns have trouble keeping all the pellets of a standard nine-pellet 00 buck load on a stationary, police silhouette target, faced squarely, past 15 yards.

The Portuguese Sailed with the Spanish. The Spanish were constantly imprisoning the Indians to force them to work in the mines and smelters. There are records when people passing through Cherokee territory would write down accounts of battles btw the Cherokee and the Spanish, that were relayed to them by the Cherokee. Hi Rommsey!
Funny that you should post about the Canadian election….I have been trying to warn people about the danger of “protest” votes…

Bob Rae’s NDP party (he was a community organizer), traditionally a distant third party, WON the 1990 Ontario election as a result of the majority of people voting “protest” votes to “teach” the Conservatives/Liberals
    “a lesson”.

I still remember the shock when it was announced the NDP won. Their govt of course was a complete disaster…because of the economic recession, they couldn’t fulfill their wish list of touchy-feely progressive ideals, and ended up bitterly dividing labor and the NDP. “Rae” days (mandatory days off w/o pay) were a complete disaster and did not help balance the budget. Needless to say, the NDP have not been in power since.

This election in the swing states is going to come down to every vote in every precinct.

I have been trying to warn our friends in PA and VA that this isn’t the time for “protest” votes and writing in third party candidates.

I hope a lesson can be learned from the NDP/Bob Rae “community organizer” debacle of 1990.

“I know who I am and I’m proud of it,” she said. The going has been tougher in Washington, where Virginia Indians are trying to join 562 tribes around the country that are federally recognized. The Bush administration has been unwilling to ease application rules.

Allen, now a U.S. senator, is again championing the Indians’ cause. The Republican has authored legislation that would bypass bureaucratic requirements and allow Congress to federally recognize the tribes. Allen, during a Senate hearing last year, lamented Virginia’s racist past.

“Virginia Indians were not extended the rights offered to other U.S. citizens, and the years of discrimination and coercive policies took a tremendous toll,” he said.

The bill has been approved by a key Senate committee and may come up for a floor vote later this year.

Sell the big ol’ place with tons more bedrooms than you visit in a year and go to smaller digs that afford you the opportunity to live in two/three different places. Less is more! :)

To paraphrase Newt, I’d take McCain who I will have to fight 30% of the time (and has shown that he listens), over Obama, who I’d fight 90% of the time, and who does not listen.

We don’t just go back to sleep on November 5. We cannot cease to be vigilant and active – particularly in these times with the multikulti, pc rot which pervades western society.

So very true. I am not, nor ever have been, a firm supporter of McCain – yet the alternative is one I cannot fathom. By the Grace of God, McCain managed to win me over by his choice of Palin. She may very well be the most important choice of this decade and the salvation of the conservative movement. She is so much bigger than he is it’s scary. We so sorely needed someone to remind us WHY we believe as we do, and WHAT it is we will support. I truly believe it is now up to the party to lose this election. Let’s pray they have the mettle to sway those on the fence to keep the momentum going, and the hope of America in focus.

Are they so obtuse that unless the Governor of Alaska goes postal, she does not exist. She’s been there, in the public eye for over two years. I knew who she was.
