Mrs. Smarter-than-thou gets passive-aggressive with Sarah

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 8, 2008 06:32 PM

Mrs. Smarter-than-thou goes there. Mmm-hmm. Oh, yes, she did. Mark Finkelstein at Newsbusters writes:

Check out this [emphasis added] excerpt from an LA Weekly report on Michelle Obama’s appearance at a private fundraiser last Wednesday in the ritzy LA neighborhood of Holmby Hills. Mrs. Obama was addressing a crowd that reporter Patrick Range McDonald described “heavily entertainment-industry.”

Obama then moved on to politics, where she first brought up her husband’s vice-presidential choice. “I think it was a really good pick—Senator Joe Biden,” she said, and later added, “People say they have amazing chemistry, and it’s true.”

Obama continued with talk about Biden when she said, “What you learn about Barack from his choice is that he’s not afraid of smart people.” The crowd softly chuckled.

I’m laughing for an entirely different reason. Keep showing us your elitist roots, Mrs. O.

It’s working wonders.

I actually agree with Oprah on that count. There’s no way she could win hosting Palin; either she would be fair and accused of being too easy by the Dems, or she could be…well, Oprah, and go on the attack, alienating her audience who aren’t doctrinaire leftists. She’s had Obama on twice, true, but the first time, he was still in “I’m not experienced enough” mode.

My bigger problem with Oprah is the fact that she’s NEVER had a program about black conservatives. Shelby Steele, Thomas Sowell, Walter E. Williams, J.C. Watts, Ken Hamblin? To my knowledge, never on the show.

What about the current most important black man in America, Clarence Thomas? In the midst of answering the Palin questions, Oprah has still not explained why he was persona non grata.

LOS ANGELES – Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, a self-described government reformer, is dabbling in a little politics as usual.

Palin is headlining a GOP fundraiser later this month at the home of a California billionaire where the asking price for a snapshot with her and a seat at the headtable is $50,000.

Ticket prices start at $1,000, according to an invitation to the Sept. 25 soiree at the Silicon Valley home of software mogul Tom Siebel. But donors can get access to a private reception, photographs with the candidate and preferred seating by agreeing to pony up or raise larger amounts.

It takes a $50,000 commitment to be named a chair of the afternoon event, which comes with access to the reception for six people, two seats at the head table, a table for 10 at the lunch and three opportunities for photos with the Alaska governor, according to an invitation.

A $2,500 donation comes with a John McCain lapel pin.

Merely being endorsed or hosted by a person with money is not itself “politics as usual.” Non sequitur.

Is this meant to suggest that the true goal of community organizing is to exploit the easily led in order to advance a radical political agenda that is intended to be destructive for the U.S.?

But, but I thought Barack became a community organizer because he cared about the plight of those unemployed steel workers in Chicago. That’s what he said! He gave up high-paying job opportunities because he had so much care in his heart, and now that care is so powerful that only the presidency is a suitable outlet for it.

Agree with you. BHO has figured it out and is trying to take it to a new level. He is tying to become POTUS.

Not enough money in his current level. Not enough victims. We need more victims depending on government. He wants to kill the American Spirit, put it in a lock box. Make victims of all of us, dependents of government. Well, just my thoughts.

The lack of sunspot activity will mean a colder (not warmer) Earth.

That is why the they are trying to replace the phrase “Global Warming” with “Climate Change”…

His little quips about the price of hams, etc. – all for show. I don’t think he would know high style if it slapped him in the face. I think he has spend the good part of his life trying to get approval, acceptance. He has learned how to “appear” to certain crowds to be accepted. He is an empty suit, an empty person and certainly not a leader.

Article on Obama’s community organizer days H/T James Teranto, Wall Street Journal.

Judis offers the closest thing we’ve heard to a job description for “community organizers.” What they do, he writes, is “unite people of different backgrounds around common goals and use their collective strength to wring concessions from the powers that be.” To help illuminate this rather vague description, Judis also enumerates some of the tasks Obama and his colleagues undertook.

Before Obama’s arrival in Chicago, Kellman and his “partner,” Mike Kruglik, set out “to revive the region’s manufacturing base–and preserve what remained of its steel industry–by working with unions and church groups to pressure companies and the city; but those hopes were quickly dashed.” Apparently the presence of “community organizers” is not a strong selling point for companies making location decisions. Go figure.

Obama set his sights lower, but still missed the mark. He “got community members to demand a job center that would provide job referrals, but there were few jobs to distribute.” Then “he tried to create what he called a ‘second-level consumer economy’ . . . consisting of shops, restaurants, and theaters. This, too, went nowhere.”

These efforts at economic development having failed, Obama “began to focus on providing social services for Altgeld Gardens,” a government-owned and -operated apartment complex:

It is both funny and scary that one of America’s major political parties would offer this record of sheer futility as its nominee’s chief qualification to be president of the United States. Even more striking, though, is how alien the world in which Obama operated was by comparison with the world in which normal Americans live.

Reader, when your toilet breaks, do you wait around for some Ivy League hotshot to show up and organize a meeting so that you can use your collective strength to wring concessions from the powers that be?

Or do you call a plumber?

As a “community organizer,” Obama toiled within a subculture of such abject dependency that even home repairs were “social services,” provided by government (or, in Obama’s Chicago, not provided). It was an utterly bizarre intersection between the cultural elite and the underclass. By Judis’s account, Obama’s Columbia degree was useless. He would have been more helpful if he’d gone to vocational school instead.
