What’s on pages 4 & 5 of Us Weekly’s Palin-bashing issue

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 8, 2008 04:34 AM

I scanned the pages of Us Weekly magazine over the weekend.

As if there were any doubt about how much of an Obama propagandist vehicle Us has become, behold: “Michelle’s Campaign Style.” We learn that “Michelle’s style can best be described as ‘timeless’ and that she prefers ‘festive jewel-toned dresses.’” We learn that she “possesses a natural and unpretentious sophistication” and that she “has the grace and beauty of a dancer” whether she’s wearing her “silk faille Moschino jacket,” or the “teal silk Narcisco Rodriguez dress.” On August 23, Us Weekly informs its millions of readers, “Michelle rocked a printed cotton poplin Moschino wrap dress.” And “on the night Barack, 47, accepted that nomination for the presidency,” we are told, “Michelle glowed in a silk radzimir kimono dress from Thakoon:

Michelle Obama = Beautiful gazelle in simple and chic designer fabrics!

Sarah Palin = Scary, right-wing scandal-plagued caribou killer!

Nope, no bias here. Perhaps Us Weekly’s editors will argue, as MSNBC execs have argued, that they aren’t left-leaning political hacks in Hollyweird gossip rag clothing. They just have “passion and point of view.”

***

You’ll recall that on Friday evening, a michellemalkin.com reader e-mailed to inform us that Us Weekly was begging her not to cancel her subscription. The magazine’s customer service department asked those canceling subscriptions to give Us Weekly a chance: “In all fairness, we ask you please take the time to read the story before deciding to cancel. After reading should you still wish to cancel, please let us know and we will honor your request.”

Well, the six-page partisan hit job is every bit as smear-y and dishonest as the cover. Us weasel editor Bradley Jacobs claimed that Us deserved praise for being “one of the few magazines that actually did call to task those liberal bloggers for the news stories [the rumors about baby Trig being sister Bristol's baby] over the weekend.”

But the article makes zero mention of any of those liberal slime bloggers. Instead, here is how the magazine played up those rumors. Look at the big, red “Where’s the Bump?” headline. The caption reads: “In an earlier pregnancy (left), Palin had a visible bump. In a 2008 photo (right), used online to call Palin’s pregnangy into question, she is six months pregnant with her fifth baby.”

Bill Maher approves.

***

The US Weekly boycott continues.

    Agreed.
I’m really tired of this crap, building up the Zero Twins like they’re something special. They are not.
I have never seen the Bitter One as an attractive woman, and I do know attractive women when I see them.
Notice how they avoid showing Mishallow Obama’s ‘backside’ (kinda like when they’re hiding JLO’s big butt, when off diet), that’s for a reason.
Not being mean, BUT michelle obama’s average looks will even deteriorate… fast. Her rear-end will be twice as big in four years and you’ll be able to see it, her jaw and those teeth from 30,000 feet.

They talk about her dresses and ‘who’ she’s wearing like she’s at the Oscars in Hollywood. Not Elite? ha.

Trying to pass her off as a proud American is offensive and asinine, plus it’s an insult to our forefathers.

Trying to pass MO off as a ‘beauty’ is an insult to men.

Palin IS quite beautiful, in and out ( and she gets better with age).

Still, looks don’t matter that much in the white house, it is the obama attitude and policies that will end America as we know it.

( before anyone plays the race card on me, I was engaged to a very beautiful black woman)

These dresses are Us Weekly’s view of great fashion?? I hope conservative women don’t listen to such drivel. All I see are wardrobe malfunctions.

Mi-O’s two blue-ish dresses look like painter’s smocks and do nothing to flatter the figure. Maybe rail-thin models can get away with this look, but mere mortals like Mi-O would be well served by a slimming belt or something else to break up the lines.

Mi-O’s two patterned dresses are just fugly. Too-busy patterns, garish colors, nothing to break up the cacophony, etc. Yikes.

Her eldest daughter’s outfit is much better styled.

And finally, Mi-O’s dresses are not tailored particularly well. The hems seem to break right across the knees, cutting them in half, rather that a few inches above or below.

The bottom line is there’s nothing here that a fashionista with any sense of pride or style would be interested in. This is pro-Obama propaganda, plain and simple. If Senator Palin or Cindy McCain were wearing the exact same dresses, Us Weekly would be saying the same thing about them as I am.
