What’s on pages 4 & 5 of Us Weekly’s Palin-bashing issue

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 8, 2008 04:34 AM

I scanned the pages of Us Weekly magazine over the weekend.

As if there were any doubt about how much of an Obama propagandist vehicle Us has become, behold: “Michelle’s Campaign Style.” We learn that “Michelle’s style can best be described as ‘timeless’ and that she prefers ‘festive jewel-toned dresses.’” We learn that she “possesses a natural and unpretentious sophistication” and that she “has the grace and beauty of a dancer” whether she’s wearing her “silk faille Moschino jacket,” or the “teal silk Narcisco Rodriguez dress.” On August 23, Us Weekly informs its millions of readers, “Michelle rocked a printed cotton poplin Moschino wrap dress.” And “on the night Barack, 47, accepted that nomination for the presidency,” we are told, “Michelle glowed in a silk radzimir kimono dress from Thakoon:

Michelle Obama = Beautiful gazelle in simple and chic designer fabrics!

Sarah Palin = Scary, right-wing scandal-plagued caribou killer!

Nope, no bias here. Perhaps Us Weekly’s editors will argue, as MSNBC execs have argued, that they aren’t left-leaning political hacks in Hollyweird gossip rag clothing. They just have “passion and point of view.”

***

You’ll recall that on Friday evening, a michellemalkin.com reader e-mailed to inform us that Us Weekly was begging her not to cancel her subscription. The magazine’s customer service department asked those canceling subscriptions to give Us Weekly a chance: “In all fairness, we ask you please take the time to read the story before deciding to cancel. After reading should you still wish to cancel, please let us know and we will honor your request.”

Well, the six-page partisan hit job is every bit as smear-y and dishonest as the cover. Us weasel editor Bradley Jacobs claimed that Us deserved praise for being “one of the few magazines that actually did call to task those liberal bloggers for the news stories [the rumors about baby Trig being sister Bristol's baby] over the weekend.”

But the article makes zero mention of any of those liberal slime bloggers. Instead, here is how the magazine played up those rumors. Look at the big, red “Where’s the Bump?” headline. The caption reads: “In an earlier pregnancy (left), Palin had a visible bump. In a 2008 photo (right), used online to call Palin’s pregnangy into question, she is six months pregnant with her fifth baby.”

Bill Maher approves.

***

The US Weekly boycott continues.

In this case, the demographic obviously is “angry leftist entitled black women with undeserved jobs and income”.

BTW-how come on one in the national media has asked Michelle Obama why she doesn’t stay home and raise her two kids, instead of going off to her taxpayer-funded (through her husband’s earmarks) job at a local Chicago hospital?

Sum of all concrete evidence to date that Obama ever existed – one overpriced gazebo.

I’ll bet Sarah Palin could’ve built one in her sleep. :)

You are correct. I wish that the Palin family didn’t have to be subjected to the personal attacks, but it is having the opposite effect than what moonbats and MSM expected. There would be nothing better than for McCain/Palin to win this election, in spite of the bias of the MSM.

She’s had Barack Obama on her show twice, has publicly campaigned for Obama, and now won’t have Sarah Palin on her show because she doesn’t want her show to promote a candidate?

I think an Oprah boycott is just as appropriate as an Us Weekly boycott.

Boycotts work in the short term. It is much more effective if the advertisers receive letters of disapproval. Remember this is a profit drivin system. !00 letters to company can change their attitude. Heads will roll if they don’t react.

This is an interesting question. If When Sarah becomes VP, designers will be throwing their clothes at her for the prestige of having her wear them and the free advertising it will bring. Can she accept them if they are donated after being worn? Unfortunately, she requires a much bigger wardrobe than a man. If she is seen in the same dress twice, tongues will wag. Whereas, McCain could wear the same blue suit every day of his presidency and no one would notice, much less care.

If we searched high and low in the media archives, we would surely be unable to find any precedent for the level of digusting *reporting* than we are facing with Sarah P as our VP candidate.

Someone needs to teach those idiots about the capitalistic market economy.

I don’t know the advertising world but I think they are trying to shore up the ‘fluffy’ subscription numbers which would be “guaranteed” readership in order to resell to more advertisers in the near future. Please clarify if I am on the wrong track.

Keep hitting them where it hurts!
