“Catnip for the news media”

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 10, 2008 12:26 PM

Yeah. That’s what Barack Obama called his lipstick gaffe.

“Catnip for the news media.”

I think it’s a perfect slogan for The One himself.

***

Video here of Obama’s “Enough is enough” /Curse the Media phony outrage. I find it a wholly satisfying experience to watch him get a dose of his own medicine.

Schadenfreude-licious.

***

Commenter NJMark: “Wow. Barry has spent this entire campaign absolutely living off fake outrage, often preemptively. Today, a caller to Dennis Miller’s radio show noted that when it comes to “out of context,” Barry certainly didn’t mind taking “100 years in Iraq” and the “rich is $5,000,000″ joke out of context when it suited him!”

True. The risk is that Obama may have sprung a rhetorical trap for the McCain campaign. Listening to radio news today, clips of Obama’s

    Catnip

    response heavily rely on the

    …swiftboat politics…

comment Obama made. If McCain and his supporters over-plays the response, Obama may reclaim the rhetorical high ground by inoculating himself against the tough questions that are finally starting to be asked - such as O’Reilly’s interview.

Did he mean Palin with the pigs comment? Likely.
Did Obama mean McCain with the stinky-dead-fish comment? Likely.

Now he’s using the McCain Campaign’s response to divert attention from the O’Reilly interview and the TRUE issues that could lead to his defeat.

Just got back from the McCain / Palin rally in Fairfax, Va. this morning. It was supposed to be held at Fairfax High School football field but response was so great that they moved it to Van Dyke Park down the street. If I had to guess I would say 40,000+ people showed up.
Fred Thompson even came to speak!!!
The crowd here today went wild when Gov. Palin took the stage. Awesome.
Hockey Moms, Soccer Moms, Working Moms, even saw a guy with a sign that said “Trig is my brother, his story is my story.”

Regardless of what obama meant, the crowd he was speaking to picked up the lipstick comment as an insult to Palin - and they loved it enough to give him a standing ovation. What was revealed is the real heart of the liberal Democrats, and the sight is pretty ugly.

We will hear more gaffe’s by obama because he is now having trouble. It is quite easy to be great when nothing you say matters and everyone adores you. Heck, Hitler could say “I’m going to the pottie” and the German crowds would roar with approval.

The truth is that the swift boat vets love their country and weren’t about to let some bozo like Kerry get into the White House. What caught my eye in that WSJ article is the first comment I saw…

Sarah Palin lacks personal moral scruples. Knowing that her fetus (and potential 5th child) would suffer Down syndrome, she deliberately carried him to term. For her, religious dogma is more important than human compassion: the humane thing to do would have been to abort the fetus in order to spare it from a life of suffering. Also, Palin deliberately chose to give birth to a 5th child even though she, as governor, does not have time to properly care for him.
    .

Yes, folks. These are Obama voters.

Down syndrome children do not “suffer” all their lives. In fact, they have very productive lives.

In my area, college students who are just returning to start their classes report that some of their professors are literally berserk over the McCain-Palin ticket. Interestingly, the particular college involved is funded with public money - from Democrats, Republicans and Independents.

Absolutely! Have you ever seen the Special Olympics? Those folks are awesome!! They are happy, gentle, competetive but fair, good winners and good losers. We could all take a lesson from these “should have been aborted” children. I was having a discussion with a very liberal neighber the other day and she was talking about how she would hope if her daughter ever was pregnant with a down syndrom child, she would have an abortion. (This neighbor happens to be Catholic). These are the words I used to shut her up. “Yes, I’ve heard of those kinds of abortions. Hitler did that back in the 1940’s. It was called selective breeding.” She had no comeback, but she did become angry and stomp off. No big loss to me. She is so far left, her insantity is barely under control.

I mean how much clearer does it have to be? SOME democrats literaly think Obama is devine in the religous sense.

You did know that it was the plan to re-deploy troops from iraq as violence went down since before Obama was a senator right? In fact it was part of the 2004 election platform for BOTH parties.

Good call, Obama. Ready to lead.

You wouldn’t know honor if it came up and punched you in the nose. And by the way, your delusion that Bush would listen to someone with absolutely no military experience is beyond me. He actually talks to the commanders on the ground. I know since you don’t have any respect for the military, you just don’t understand that at all, but my husband is AD, and we don’t want Obama anywhere near the CIC job.

Obama has never been up against a tough Republican opponent before. He was in a gerrymandered district in Chicago. He ran against the eighth-string Alan Keyes for senate.

Hillary and the other Democrats couldn’t attack his far left positions or his radical relationships because to do so would have alienated the Democrat Primary base. Not to mention, as Democrats, they had a taboo against attacking any person of color.

Obama the candidate is a sheltered mama’s boy, coming to a tough public school for the first time, and the mean kids are stealing his lunch money and giving him a wedgy. And all he can do is hope his mama (the MSM) will come to his rescue.

Yes, Brigades from the surge that Bambi said wouldn’t work. Yes that will get us down to pre surge levels. Personally I will be thrilled when we can quit Iraq, the Gulf, the Balkans, Europe and Korea. We should not engage around Russia and make damn sure they do not engage over here. And if the rest of the world loves us or hates us it will not matter.
And if some bad boy threatens Europe, Asia or the Gulf let Europe, Asia and the Gulf handle it. Obama ready to lead? Where? To Mecca, the Hague, Turtle Bay? We are not amused.
Obama ready to lead? Who? That bunch of sissies in the tree in Berkly, those wimps in the demonstrations? Over paid school teachers?
Hint here lgm: leaders need followers not sissy boys wearing their mothers panty hose on their heads. Again We are not amused.

Flinchy goes the way the wind blows. The surge worked so it becomes possible to re-deploy to Afghanistan. Flinchy had met with Petraeus who probably KNEW before Flinchy descended from the heavens that re-deployment to AFG was even a credible military option. Flinchy saw it as a “Political” opportunity to steal the thunder of it all and say”See? I was right.”

That is like Flinchy was right about the crowing rooster being responsible for the sun coming up.

You are right, but even that approach is fraught with danger for Obama. He knows what the issues are, he just can’t discuss them intelligently and retain the ability to defend his liberal positions. He can’t risk being called upon to explain how he will pay for them and not actually raise everyone’s taxes. He depends on the 10-15 second soundbite to be able to promise things like, “I will cut taxes for 100 million of the lowest-income Americans”. What he doesn’t say is that his pledge is hollow. Those 100 million low income folks are not paying taxes and are indeed receiving the Earned Income Credit, which is a credit back to you, not a tax paid. He is proposing to as much as triple the EIC. Somebody has to pay for that. He means for the “wealthy” to pay. No matter what minimum income figures he throws around, it will come from those of us in the middle of the spectrum.
Even if he raises taxes on only the very high income earners, which includes a lot of small business owners, they will simply pass it on to us in the cost of the goods and services we purchase from them. Which is inflationary, which reduces buying power. Net effect on our bank accounts is the same. We lose. Econ 101.
