Just more playacting before the election. This Congress prefers the appearance of legislating to actual legislation.

I also prefer the appearance of legislating to actual legislation. Most any legislation causes more problems than it fixes and costs way more than any benefit it produces. Like the ethanol debacle.

I still say that even if the Democrats were to allow a bill to pass that says drill, drill, drill everywhere, it won’t make any difference because no drilling is going to happen anyway. In fact, I don’t understand why they don’t do that now. What great cover they could get while still getting their way.
Their partners, the environmental wackos, would immediately leap into action, picketing every proposed wellhead, every new pipeline, every potential refining plant. New species of microbes would suddenly be discovered by teams of leftwing “academics” at every possible drilling site that would be threatened by just thinking about drilling. The armies of Sierra Club lawyers would venue shop challenges to every environmental impact statement in front of every sympathetic Clinton-appointed judge in the nation, which are legion. It would take ten or more years before the first drill bit hit the ground.
Ditto for any proposed nuclear facility. As demonstrated by France, nuclear energy is safe and reliable. But it now takes 30 YEARS from application for permit to completion for a new plant in this country, because of all the regulations, restrictions and legal hurdles to clear. These plants ccould probably be built in a couple years otherwise.
If the Democratic congress were to pass a bill totally encouraging both of the above, they could then say “Look, we did what the public wants”, and take all the credit. When no actual drilling or construction takes place for many years because of their own obstructionism, they could blame the evil energy companies and Republicans for that too.

Your assessment is all too accurate.

ooooooooooooooooooooo... Boehner... I'm sure the Democrats are shaking in their shoes... Nancy probably wet her pants when she heard what Boehner wants to do... oooooooooooooooooooooo... Boehner... Boehner is a freaking joke. He talks tough every now and then, but he's proven that he's completely ineffective as a congressman and unwilling to participate in an earnest fight for the American cause.

The conservative house members must stand strong and vote against any drilling deals, compromises, etc. and TAKE IT TO THE DEMS / LIBS ON NATIONAL TV AND INTERNET EVERY DAY. Slash and burn tactics--shut down the government if the no drilling continuation is attached to any legislation. NO SURRENDER! Publicize the names of any representative who votes to extend the ban. Vote them out of office in November if the cut deals or give in to the greenies.

<blockquote>the Speaker and her Democratic colleagues have trotted out their own “no energy” legislation that does practically “none of the above.” For example, the bill locks up 80 percent of oil and gas in the Outer Continental Shelf and rejects the GOP plan to use hundreds of billions of dollars in new oil and gas revenue from being invested in development of renewable fuels. </blockquote>

What part of Comprehensive Energy Plan do these dimwits not understand? Serving the people isn't really in the Dems' best interest. Their only priority is accumulating as much political power as possible.

It's nice to know that the Dems have their priorities straight, you know?

<blockquote>“‘We’ve succeeded in putting a bill together with something for everyone to dislike,’ Altmire joked as he emerged from the meeting.”</blockquote>

Why is this guy joking about this situation? What kind of representative is he to his district? Is this what our government has come to? Where representatives joke about voting for terrible bills that they don't even like or support?

How does this kind of attitude help the country? Can anyone explain this to me? Is it something in the water in Washington? What is going on here?

I have no sympathy whatsoever for Union workers out of jobs. They did it to themselves. They unioned themselves right out of work like many of us predicted they would long ago.

I hate to say it, but with all these bailouts and more to come, I don't think our economy could possibly pull out of it.

It's like a company that is bankrupt and the accountants just haven't figured it out yet, or just not informed the management yet.

There are bleak days ahead and people need to stock up on food and water and prepare. They cannot fend off the inevitable forever.

I'd say let them go belly up since it's the surrendercrat supporting unions that drove them into the ground in the first place.

In my dream, I see a perfect world where there is pleanty of oil.

The world is at peace.

Conservative ideals rule the day...

<em>And then</em>, Charlton Heston leaps out and yells: <strong>"OIL IS LIBERALS!"</strong>

And he kills the whole beautiful, wonderful plan.

I'd love for them to let the ban run out, but we need to be on the lookout for it to be attached to any legislation they want to pass. The Dems will try to slide it by quietly.

I still say that even if the Democrats were to allow a bill to pass that says drill, drill, drill everywhere, it won't make any difference because no drilling is going to happen anyway. In fact, I don't understand why they don't do that now. What great cover they could get while still getting their way.

Their partners, the environmental wackos, would immediately leap into action, picketing every proposed wellhead, every new pipeline, every potential refining plant. New species of microbes would suddenly be discovered by teams of leftwing "academics" at every possible drilling site that would be threatened by just thinking about drilling.

If the Democratic congress were to pass a bill totally encouraging both of the above, they could then say "Look, we did what the public wants", and take all the credit. When no actual drilling or construction takes place for many years because of their own obstructionism, they could blame the evil energy companies and Republicans for that too.

Twenty days until <strong>Energy Freedom Day</strong>.

We <em>MUST </em>resist all efforts by Pelosi and other defeatist Democrats to pass any bill which further restricts all Americans' right to oil, natural gas, and any other alternative energy source in this great nation of ours.
