Why is Obummer misrepresenting his record? What is he saying about bipartisanship? What about his two bills? Why is he mispresenting his role in the Bridge to Nowhere? He and Biden voted for it! They’re the earmark kings compared to McCain and Palin.

As for the webpage pictured above, the image at the bottom shows their point: glasses, lipstick, pig, pearls.

Chaps, if you could stop being intellectually dishonest for a minute and actually address why it is that Obummer and Biden are the “earmark kings.” How did any of these earmarks benefit their consitutuents? Palin had used this joke before. Here is an article which showed up on August 29th (The date is confirmed by Google) where it refers to Palin using this joke before.

Palin is a self-described hockey mom (the Alaska version of soccer mom). Palin once wrote in the Anchorage Daily News, “The only difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull is lipstick.”

That article links to this blog post dated June 29th, 2008. That post, in turn, quotes to the book Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska’s Political Establishment Upside Down which Amazon says was published April 1st, 2008. Here’s the quote:

In her toe-to-toe face-off with the governor, Sarah once again refused to back down. She fired off a guest-opinion piece to the [Anchorage] Daily News. “It’s said the only difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull is lipstick,” she wrote. “So, with lipstick on, the gloves come off in answering administration accusations.”

Palin’s hockey mom joke was easily available to anyone looking into Sarah Palin’s history, as democrats.org obviously did.

Given that chain of events, it is entirely reasonable to think that:

    A) The democrats.org “Lipstick on a Pig” reference was a direct slap at Sarah Palin’s primary, and easily discovered, self-identification as a “hockey mom.”

    B) Obama learned of this joke and decided to use it in a much more “wink, wink, nudge, nudge, you know what I mean” fashion.

What was your question exactly? You just seemed to want me to discuss Obama’s pork projects. Every politician’s got em (except actually maybe McCain, though that is up to a bit of debate and interpretation). That includes Obama. If you have specific objections to specific pieces of pork of his, I can’t guarantee I have any sort of answer, but I will try to address it.

The difference is Obama’s not really going out there claiming he is some big pork barrel reformer and literally lying about his record with respect to arguably the most infamous piece of pork in the last decade.

Similarly, I think it is totally fair to go after Obama on public financing. That was a very disappointing and politically motivated decision.

Wow. Okay. I retract the “defraud” aspect of my assertion and will simply claim she has zero credibility when it comes to being fiscally conservative or a “reformer” if she is willing to take advantage of such a loophole to the tune of $18,000 to eat in her own home.

A good indicator of just how little “dirt” there is on her, would be the viciousness and personal nature of attacks on her by otherwise sober editorialists. If they have nothing real, they attack her or her family.
Lets talk about issues. I like most of what I’ve read about her. I have yet to read anything that I would consider a disqualifier for her being VP or president. I have read much that worries me about Obama and Biden as well.

I should have explained why I don’t think it is a loophole.

Here’s a quote from the article I posted at 8:31:
Leighow said the governor saves money when she’s at home — it’s less expensive than staffing and stocking the governor’s mansion in Juneau — and spends far less on travel than her predecessor, Gov. Frank Murkowski.

Palin spent about $114,900 traveling in 2007, versus the $516,600 Murkowski spent the year before, according to state records. Palin’s husband, Todd, also travels less than recent first spouses. Knowles’ wife, Susan, often flew out of state for meetings and giving speeches as the first lady.

From everything I have read, she has been a fiscal conservative. She walks the walk as well as talks the talk. Sure, she wanted the bridge to nowhere – who knows why she changed her mind. The fact is she did do the right thing in the end.

I did read it and again I am less concerned with “total cost” as compared to her predecessor and more with why she is charging the state $60 a day (for 300 days) to eat in her own house. Setting aside whether she is legally “entitled” to it, which at this point I will concede, you don’t think this is absurd?

Here’s why she charged the state to eat in her own house:
Leighow said the governor saves money when she’s at home — it’s less expensive than staffing and stocking the governor’s mansion in Juneau. Why should she forgo the money that she is entitled to? If your firm offered you a company car would you turn it down? Do you turn down benefits offered by your employer? Why should she? If that’s all you’ve got, you got nothing!

Yet the “lipstick on a pig” comparison is so blinkin’ obvious that it was already being used less than 24 hours after it was announced that Palin had been picked as McCain’s VP. (The time on that post is 8:28 AM.)

Of course Obama’s primary meaning for “lipstick on a pig” was to apply it to McCain’s policies! No one here is saying otherwise. But given how Palin’s bulldog…hockey mom…lipstick joke exploded across the country only a week ago, there is absolutely no way that anyone could miss a secondary meaning tying the comment to Palin’s joke. Maybe a 10 year old wouldn’t get it, or maybe someone who had not yet heard Palin’s joke, but to think that Obama was unaware of a secondary meaning in that context is to think that he is a political naif on the order of a Charlie Brown believing that Lucy won’t pull the football again.

The fact that you lefties are such obvious pretenders is more offensive to me than Obama slyly calling Palin a pig. At least Obama had enough savvy to hide his slam in a double entendre, even if it was as subtle as a pink elephant on Main Street.

Don’t you guys get it? This is a decent, genuine, human being. She is smart, appears to have not been corrupted by power or money. The more you guys attack her with smear like attacks, the more sympathy you generate for her. My advice is lay off her and wait to see if the wolf pack digs up something legitimate. Red State Skeptic was adamant that the DNC was not involved in smearing her, but then the RNC has not been involved in smearing Obama.
I have my doubts about Obama being squeaky clean; all his prior opponents had “sealed” divorce records suddenly opened. Once or twice might be a coincidence, but this would be the fourth occurrence (including the attacks on Hillary).
I’d like to stay and play but I have to sign off now.

Palin’s joke didn’t mention a pig, and — and this is the point, you tool — she’s told the story many times before. I had already read it attributed to her two days before her speech. Someone on TV, can’t remember who, commented during her speech that it was one of her stock lines.

Oh and btw: for years the leftards have accused Rush Limbaugh of saying Chelsea Clinton was a dog, when in fact he didn’t. Now come the Dems claiming to have been “misunderstood” and “attacked” when their POTUS candidate appears to have called our VPOTUS candidate a pig.

Now they bleat and moan about “unfairness”.

The difference is Obama’s not really going out there claiming he is some big pork barrel reformer and literally lying about his record with respect to arguably the most infamous piece of pork in the last decade.

The bottom line is: Obama and Biden voted for the bridge. Palin did not vote for the bridge, and in the end she killed the project.

Your complaint seems to be that she still took federal money that originally was “earmarked” for the bridge, and then used it for other more rational purposes. But the money came in the form of a “grant”, not an “earmark” surreptitiously stuck into a bill.

Do you really think that states, whose taxpayers send billions to the feds, are supposed to reject ALL money that comes back to them? Do you not understand how huge Alaska is, and how few good roads and bridges it has? We’re not talking about the 100th Robert Byrd Public Library here!

Seriously, guys, even if he didn’t mean it that way he must have known how it was going to be interpreted. It either shows that he’s totally callous, or seriously stupid.

After all the manufactured outrage his folks have generated during this campaign, I don’t really mind if McCain’s people took his fumble and run with it. His mistake. Man up, apologize, at least say, “hey I didn’t mean it and sorry it looked like that.” Don’t act outraged yourself. You should have known how it was going to be interpreted, and you still did it. Stupid. Deal with the consequences or make some sort of non-apology apology and be done with it.

No, you’re thinking of lgm. Chapoutier actually raises important questions that we should be considering, and is willing to admit the fault of the Democratic candidates when faced with them.

In my humble opinion, he’s not deserving of much of the vitriol he receives here. I frequently disagree with him, but he is civil and reasonable.

If we are really interested in the best for our nation, we should be just as interested in our candidates’ faults as in those of their opponents.

Governors don’t put pork into spending bills. Spemding bills come from Congress. Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska attached the Bridge to Nowhere in a spending bill.

Gov Palin may have lobbied for it or asked for it, that I do not know but I doubt it. In any case, it was Ted that wanted it and asked for it.

Pork is allowed in Congress unfortunately. If pork is allowed and Congress says ok, what’s the problem? Is that Sarahs problem? No. I don’t see a lot of Governeors arguing with the State’s US Senators and Congress people to stop getting money for the state. That is illogical.

In this case, people questioned why that pork was in there and Congress took it out. Sarah Palin may have said she didn’t want it but she is not in Congress and therefore can not put it in or out of a spending bill. She can only lobby one way or the other. She is saying she lobbied to take it out. Good for her. Is that a lie, that she didn’t ask to take it out? I don’t know but I’ll take her at her word because she is charismatic and good looking and a minority, and smart and ….a conservative. Wow. Why actually dig deeper than that. Sound familiar Libs?
