Sisterhood of the Protected Female Liberal Journalists
My syndicated column today picks up on Obama official Howard Gutman’s odious comments on the Laura Ingraham show last week and applies his standard to working mothers in the liberal media elite.

Sisterhood of the protected female liberal journalist
Let’s talk Mommy Wars, double standards, and the media elite. Last Friday, Obama Campaign National Finance Committee member Howard Gutman attacked Sarah Palin’s ability to be a good parent and have a high-powered public life at the same time. In a finger-wagging appearance on the Laura Ingraham radio show, Obama’s operative scolded the Republican mother of five children for not putting her professional career on hold.
“Your responsibility is to put your family first,” Gutman lectured as he singled out Palin’s Down’s Syndrome baby and pregnant teenage daughter. “The proper attack is not that a woman shouldn’t run for vice president with five kids, it’s that a parent, when they have a family in need,” should get out of the public sphere and stay home.
The Gutman standard has now been proffered by countless Obama hacks and water-carrying commentators. Damningly, it’s high-powered working mothers in the journalism business helping to broadcast the anti-Palin slams or doing nothing to defend her.
CNN’s Soledad O’Brien denied Palin attacks on her network, even as her colleague John Roberts asked: “”There’s also this issue that on April 18th, she gave birth to a baby with Down’s Syndrome…. Children with Down’s syndrome require an awful lot of attention. The role of Vice President, it seems to me, would take up an awful lot of her time, and it raises the issue of how much time will she have to dedicate to her newborn child?”
NBC’s Meredeith Viera asserted that only blogs went after Palin’s motherhood abilities while running for veep, even as her colleague Brian Williams slyly raised feminists’ “fears or doubts that she should be able to do this, that she should be doing this.”
How would CNN’s O’Brien like the Gutman standard applied to her? She’s been working overtime covering the presidential campaign season, anchoring daily coverage, nighttime conventions, and producing documentaries that require large chunks of time away from home. Disney’s Family Parenting website lauds her as “a modern mom balancing a thriving career as one of America’s top news anchors along with her four children” – two daughters now ages 7 and 6 and twin boys who are 4. Where are the Palin-bashers to lambaste O’Brien’s professional pursuits?
How about Katie Couric? Her husband died at 42 when her daughters were 6 and 2 years old. With two young children devastated by the loss of a father, she opted not to quit journalism. She anchored NBC’s Today Show through his illness and death, continued working an intensive, time-consuming schedule as one of America’s most visible broadcast journalists while a single mother with two fatherless children at home, and then jumped to CBS News, where she maintains a rigorous on-air schedule, travel plans, and off-air social calendar. Where are the finger-waggers?
Also at CNN, Campbell Brown flew to Las Vegas last year to moderate a political debate while 8 ½ months’ pregnant. Fox News host and left-wing blogger Alan Colmes, last seen questioning Sarah Palin’s commitment to prenatal care because she worked and traveld late in her pregnancy, had no comment. When she initially left the Today Show in 2007, Brown said she was stepping down to devote more time to family and baby. She immediately turned around the next day and jumped ship to CNN, where she has anchored wall-to-wall CNN Election Center coverage and will launch a new nightly show in November.
And at NBC, famous balancer of work-and-motherhood Viera replaced Couric on the Today Show. She has three children at home and a husband who has battled multiple sclerosis and two bouts with colon cancer. By the Gutman standard, Viera should have left the business years ago to tend to her family in need.
As a working woman in the media for 16 years and a working mother in the media for the last eight. I know the commitment and energy it took for these women to get to the top. I’ve filed columns from hospital beds, written books while nursing, brought my toddlers to TV studios, and told bedtime stories on the cell phone while boarding planes. I’ve worked hard to strike the “balance” we all seek. I’ve made good choices and bad choices, and have no regrets about the opportunities I’ve taken and the opportunities I’ve rejected. I couldn’t have done it without a supportive husband willing to forego his own career goals – the kind of spouse that the media has ignored in Todd Palin and the kind of spouse I’m sure the Sisterhood of the Protected Female Journalist all have.
I don’t challenge the commitment these fellow working mothers in the media have to their home lives. What I challenge is their silence and complicity as the Palin-bashers impose a “Family First” double standard on conservatives. The sorority is closed to the Right.

K-Lo has a point here. But it’s not “whining” to expose double standards. It’s an object lesson.
John Hawkins has a video show of solidarity from the conservative sisterhood.

Michelle, please publish some of the hate emails you’re sure to get from this article!
No amount of logic and common sense will get these women to admit that they are FUBAR for attacking Palin on this.
This column is going to make quite a few female journalists squirm in their seats.
Excellent column Michelle.
I cannot wait to hear those hypocrites respond.
I’d love to know how large Michelle’s email filter file is at this time.
Great article. Expect silence from the Credentialed Media on the points it raises.
I thought the “Katie Couric quote” in the McCain “Lipstick” ad was brilliant!
…maybe it’s best – for the time being – just to let all that has recently transpired sink into the minds of the public…and the, if necessary be more aggressive on the sexism and utter hypocrisy of Zerobama.
Popcorn, please!
Great column, Michelle. Although, you forgot to mention Nancy Pelosi. Where were the finger-waggers when she started her political career and was still the mother 5 kids?
Let the left keep running their mouths over this. It’s only going to get more interesting, to say the least. Sarah is genuine. Couric isn’t.
Out!
Female Liberal Journalists
“are” Sarah Palin, too.
That’s got to gnaw at them.
Governor Palin’s empathy with and appeal to women voters is the same kind of feminine empathy and appeal that THEY use to try to attract a share of the female demographic.
That’s slapen em upside the head Michelle.
Not that it’ll make it bit of difference.
The hypocrisy of the left is boundless.
Don’t forget Christiane Amanpour, who continued to work while pregnant and after having the baby — not just away from home, but in the Middle East and the Balkins in the midst of the battles. Nice.
Great Column.
Over the weekend I watched 4 CNN pinheads talking about this for 10minutes as if Palin was a single-mother. I found myself screaming at the TV “SHE HAS A GREAT HUSBAND AND FATHER!!!” Where are father’s rights in this “debate”.
I had questioned if these women should really be considered journalist.
My wife questioned if these journalist should really be considered women. Gender gap?
And yes Michelle along with Paul Revere I ask please publish some of the hate emails you’re sure to get from this article! There are fun to read.
(have your flags ready for tomorrow)

Hey Obama-Want to see a Bitter American?
Look at your wife.
“… The sorority is closed to the Right.”
Especially those on the Right who are distinctly pro-life and and anti-infanticide. The hypocracy seen these last few days in egregious.
I’m thankful that Gov. Sarah Palin is a highly principled, tough woman! May she be strong enough to withstand this firestorm.
If standards are good, then having double standards must be TWICE as good!
/sarc
I would not impose to preach upon any working woman with young children at home that she should stay at home with her kids. Though it works out well for our family, I am enough of a realist to realize that it just isn’t an option for most families.
However, for Ms. Couric, Ms. Brown, Ms. O’Brien, etc. to continue to kvetch about the (perceived) mote in Gov. Palin’s eye, whilst completely ignoring the beam in their collective occulary organs is the height of hypocrisy.
Remember folks: Negative only applies to Republicans.
Proof positive that the Left is deranged. They are so blind in their hatred of Sarah Palin’s politics and values that they cannot see the just how similar their paths are!
I work for a great company that isn’t afraid of having too many strong, smart and ambitious people. We grow the company so that more of us can make it to the top. This is called an abundance view of the world. Unfortunately, Katie, Soledad, and the rest of the Left live in a scarcity world view where there is only so much and they have it and you’re not taking it from them.
Oh, the righteous indignant left. Piously commenting, stinging uncleft. They of double-standard and sexist bent.
Pooh to them all!
Liberal women talking about raising a family and family values. Now that’s what I call hypocrisy!
Whenever they open their mouths, they’re bring in votes for McCain. Stupid is as stupid does (credit Forrest Gump).
I can’t tell you how many times, when considering a career in journalism, I was told (by liberals) I couldn’t because I was too “close-minded” (read: not liberal). That, because I wanted a family, I was incapable of handling that job, etc., etc.
I have more in common with Sarah Palin than Katie Couric, Michelle Obama, Maureen Dowd, or any other liberal woman. Yet they expect me to shut up, sit down, and worship Obama because he defends my “right” to “choose”!
No. Never.
FUBAR, big time!
Or where were the cries that Pelosi used her grandchildren as props when she became speaker of the house and had them all out there for her acceptance speech?
Now, Michelle – you know that the MSM and libs are following their first commandment, as spoken to them by the Messiah:
DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO!
They get a break – they have nannies and au pairs that do all of that maternal/family stuff that us conservatives do ourselves.
Why are we surprised? This attitude is nothing new. Hypocrisy, sure. How about an egalitarian attitude? They “must” know so much more than those of us with our Bibles at our side and our guns at the ready. Oh, to be so enlightened!
Humph, imagine that – only liberal females can work and be “good” mothers! Thanks, MM, for pointing out the MSM’s sexist double standard! As blatant as they were in displaying it against HRC, one would think they’d have tried to reign it in a tad bit by now.
I remember another morning anchorette who’s husband stayed at home raising her children and when they divorced she was hysterical that she would have to pay him alimony. i can’t remember he name, but i’m sure some out there will recall the story from about 8 years ago.
Excellent column, Michelle!
Sarah appeals not just with women but men love her too. Obama’s ship has sunk.

You seem pretty enlightened to me.
I was told by a a nut job that to vote against Obamaa is anti-black, anti-gay, & anti-environment. By that logic, a vote for him is a vote to keep women at home, bare foot & pregnant.
As always, we can count on Michelle to write with strength, truth and a bit of wry wit. Love it… do let us know what the “journalists” have to say about this column. I’m “sure” it will be nothing short of platitudes!
SNORT!
I’m not making any statements like that until the election is over. Just a little superstition of mine.
What gets me about the left is that for my entire lifetime it was drilled into me that I as a woman can be anything and do anything. I could get a degree and climb the corporate ladder by leaps and bounds, get an equally ambitious husband if I absolutely had to (it was preferable to be a free woman, though) and if I was so inclined to have inconvenient children, well, that’s what daycare is for. My responsibility is to get out of the house and be a contributing member of society! Work, good comrades, work!
What happened to that? Palin manages to do it all and yet suddenly that’s not enough? I don’t care what anyone says, she has a wonderful, normal family with all too common normal problems, and they all appear to be dealing with life just fine. I think that rankles the left more than anything, the Palin family is normal and actually happy with that.
I’ve said it a million times – the left have become what they hate. They ought to read their Bibles because it warns us of being so judgemental and hateful that we may be quilty of doing what we accuse others of.
I wrestled with whether or not to write it but went ahead and took a risk. Besides, I’m not very superstitious.
All the hand-wringing about Palin not “being there” for Trig is utterly hypocritical coming from the people who would prefer if Trig were aborted, or call him “retard” or a “prop”. Bill Maher, for example, refers to Trig Palin as “it”…
So why do they give a crap if Palin’s there for him or not? In their view, he shouldn’t have even been born.
Not to mention single working mothers…of which I am one. I can remember coming home from the hospital after a hip operation, and calling customers that very day and being yelled at by one who had a late shipment while I was out cold in a hospital operating room. As a single parent homeowner, juggling just one child, I know how hard it is but necessary to keep working and not let motherhood interfere. We , as mothers are held to a higher standard than men . Like GingerRogers , she danced as well as Fred Astaire but she did it backwards in high heels!!! I would lay odds Palins job will be easier as VP with all the help that office will provide….Go Sarah!
I’m with you IrishMom on both of your posts. I’m with Sarah and admire her over any liberal woman. That picture of Couric giving the global “salute” was never seen in the MSM that I can remember….if that photo had been of Ms. Rice, Ms. Coulter, or any other conservative figure–it would be front page news. Thanks, MM, for the great article!!
But doesn’t it also relegate back to the fact that if it is “a person of color” that happens to be a Republican or Conservative and/or God forbid, both, that the media does whatever it can to tear, smear, slur and attack the character of that Black American? It only works for one side, and people we ain’t on that side.
PS…Having children is a part of life and I’ve often wished that careers and employment reflected that very fact. Palins election will help integrate the essence of life into politics and “that’s a good thing”.
The libs are a study of two extremes. They are extremely left (they call it progressive) when it benefits their cause…you know the whole NOW-feminist-bra burning thing. They are also on the extreme right (they call it family values) when it benefits their cause…you know the whole supporting the gaffe ticket sort’ve thing.
Does anyone have a scorecard? Its really hard to follow them from day-to-day. Talk about flips…
Funny, for years there has been a feud between stay-at-homes and working moms over which is the best for children and family. Working moms have always maintained their children are not short changed by their absence.
We now know though that when push comes to shove, these women are more concerned about getting Obama elected than defending another woman.
Try to develop some listening skills. The guy repeats over and over that he would say the same thing about a man running for VP.
And please please find an issue to talk about. Are American kids going to have the education they need to compete with kids in other countries who are being educated better?
bedje #137:
Good point. Remember how Micahel Steel’s opponent’s supporters described him as an “oreo” and he was pelted by oreo cookies? Where was the media outrage then?
I am constantly amazed that journalists can be so amazingly hypocritical in their reporting. This is a prime example.
How can you condemn someone else for doing exactly what you have been doing, and that you are going to continue doing?
The complete lack of self-examination or self-reflection among people able to behave in this manner is frightening.
What drives me crazy is how they emphasize the 5 children. One of them is grown and in the military, one is about to turn 18 and while she will have challenges with a new baby I beleive the family is close enough that she will never be without help. The middle children are at ages where they are able to help out and Trig, I would imagine, can go most places that she goes.
Does anyone else notice that the media makes it sound as if the Bristol’s baby is going to be Sarah’s 6th? Do they forget that the baby is going to have two sets of grandparents? I suspect Levi’s family will want to help take care of the baby, too.
The, “Why isn’t Palin a good lil’ wifey and stay-at-home-mom?” line of inquiry is another great example of that hobgoblin of the Left, mental laziness.
They’d rather not deal with her; but rather than suck it up and do just that, they look for easy-outs.
First, they tried the bully-boy approach: come at her with a lot of bluster and vitriol, and hope that she’d wilt and become the next Thomas Eagleton.
When that didn’t work, they tried a kind of logical jujitsu: “If you’re really so conservative, then you outta be at home with your brood instead of playing with the liberated big-girls — otherwise, you’re a hypocrite.”
Both are simply wishful thinking (another form of mental laziness), hoping to make the problem go away by itself without having to actually engage it.
Alas, poor libs, as intellectual and emotional adults have learned, “Wishing doesn’t make it so.”
The failure of “Plan B” will lead to the next stage of liberal mental laziness: impotent rage. Expect to see one long, continuous temper-tantrum from them right through the rest of the election. In fact, it’s already started.
lgm,
When John Edwards was tapped as Kerry’s running mate I don’t recall these questions about his parenting. He had a wife who was in remission, young kids, and a deceased child. You know what kind’ve stress a family goes through with the loss of a child? Nope, no questions to good ol’ Johnny regarding his “parenting”.
Dems grabbing at straws….
I guess we are not helping Michelle’s and lgm’s children discussing the BLATANT media bias by discussing any issues other than what they feel is important. Jeeze, lgm, if you will post your address I’ll send you a buck so you can buy a clue!
As long as it was a conservative man, I agree with you.
My hearing is excellent. I don’t ever remember liberals being concerned with liberals raising kids while serving in office or any other capacity for that matter. As a matter of fact, they call them heros, champions, etc.
Maybe you should work on your selective hearing.
As I see it, the ‘gals’ quoted in MM’s article are the employee.
Sarah is the Manager. She is able to manager her job and family!
Jealousy???????
As for Gutman, I suspect he has always been afraid of stong, well educated, grounded women, regardless of her status in the workplace.
lgm wants to talk about real issues like education. ok lets see, how do our kids compete with other countries when we have affirmative action filling our schools with dumb-down teachers?
Obama declined TEN meetings to talk about THE ISSUES. He has no stance and knows it, to revealing about “the one” is the reason he declined.
It’s Killin em and
I Love it!!!
McCain/Palin 08′
Image: obama issues? yeah he has some, all bad.
So did he bring up Joe Biden? Single father with a 1 and 3 year old…and add another 3 hour commute each day to that.
Perfect, lets talk about how the NEA has ruined our school system. How they continue to say we need more $$$$$$ because that is the only way to fix the problem.
Let us not raise the issue that teachers work 9 months (or less, if you count all the vacation days) and receive a salary equal to 12 months pay.
Let us not raise the issue of how many teachers receive full pay for sitting in a room – outside the classroom – as they are no longer an effective teacher, but cannot be fired due to ‘tenure’!
Agree, lets have a conversation…..Now, how do you intend to fix it?
- lgm
And you actually believe that? How can you accuse anyone else of falling for a lie?
Complete and total hypocrites. The double standards make one’s head spin.
Sarah Palin can’t be a mother and vice-president because she is pro-life. If she had been pro-abortion, then it would be okay.
Yes, lets discuss the Palin incest smear!!!
Okay lets see how Obamas years in handing out money to school programs worked out for his city shall we?
I actualy think he probably does. Amazing isn’t it?
Not only would it have been ok, it would be shouted from network to network what talented, generous, giving, et al person she was because again, being on “that” side.
You and me both, EQ. Don’t we both have babies at home right now? How old is your little one?
LGM: Obama and the education issue. His track record.
Barack Obama was the founding chairman of the board and led the organization for 4 years. During his tenure, the CAC received $50 million dollars from the Annenberg Foundation and tens of millions of matching funds from local private and public dollars. This money was supposed to be spent improving the schools of Chicago. However, studies from the CAC itself, and confirmed by an analysis from the well-regarded Thomas B. Fordham Institute, show that the effort directed by Barack Obama led to no discernible improvement at all in the schools which were the beneficiaries of the funds nor in the ultimate intended beneficiaries, the students.
http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/08/obamas_education_track_record.html
Sisterhood of the Protected Female Liberal Journalists
You can’t have a good acronym with that. How about:
Sisterhood of the Liberal and Irresponsible Media Elite?
SLIME fits perfectly.
Taking the longer view, if the goal of parenting is to raise a child to be a responsible adult, I look forward to seeing the results of the listed prodigy in 20 years. I am suspect that Caribou Barbie’s children will be more productive and self actualized than will the majority of the children listed.
Folks, I gotta go back to that J.O.B. Someone please let me know if lgm posts his address so I can send’em that buck for the clue. We may even have to take up a collection (lots of bucks for lots of clues).
Thank you! Just proves my point, $$$$$$$$$ is not the answer. Accountability, removal of the union, and removal of tenure is the answer.
This is interesting. Obama talks a good game when running his yap about equality for women, but he does not seem to rpactice what he preaches.
Wonder why the MSM doesn’t report on THIS.
MM, brilliant column today!!! Something that has had to be said since the ANNOUNCEMENT… The DEMS tried to waylay her as a group, this wreaked of SEXISM… Than they sicked just LIB DEM WOMEN on her, this wreaked of JEALOUSY… As they say, the SILENCE was DEAFENING from so-called JOURNALISTS of the FEMALE GENDER in defending SARAH PALIN as a working mother… The AMERICAN PUBLIC is seeing this, on a daily basis, for what it is, nothing but a campaign to slander her as an accomplished free thinking, intelligent WOMAN… Just like many AMERICAN WOMEN are REPUBLICAN or DEMOCRAT… This will bite them in the end, no PUN intended…
Hypocrisy at its best.
What’s causing all this? They’re green with envy. Now DARE a conservative woman have both a family and a career!
The more Obama keeps trying to contrast America to foreign countries, the better the polls will be for McCain/Palin.
“Country First”…get it?
I heard BHO suggesting that the education systems in India and in China are better than in the USA, and we heard him suggest, during the Olympics, that China had an infrastructure superior to the USA. This is very dangerous, not only because it’s totally false, but because it makes it clear that he is willing to overlook the human rights violations in these countries, in favor of…what, I don’t know.
Hey Barack: The people in China are not free. And I’ve been to India; infrastructure there is almost totally absent, with the exception of the main urban areas in the richest of states. Also, the state-run schools there turn out well-educated students with no hope of prosperity, which is why they move away and leave India. Only 5 years ago when I was there, and maybe continuing even today, in the news each day was the problem of women burying their female daughters alive out of despair over being unable to ever afford a dowry for them. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
Obama: NOT READY TO LEAD AMERICA!
sonofdy said (#58):
Wrong and wrong — it’s not an issue and the Obama campaign didn’t push it (I haven’t heard of it).
An actual issue — something substantive about Obama’s record. Did he do something bad to the schools of Chicago or Illinois while he was a State Senator or community organizer (other than trying to teach sex to kiddies as the lying McCain ad claims)?
Errah, why does Katy have man hands?
The level of hypocrisy due to hate pathos on the left concerning Gov. Palin is just amazing.
Whine about it? No.
Expose their depth of depravity to the light of day? Yes!
I have a question. If you need professional services from a lawyer, dentist, stockbroker, insurance agent, fireman, policeman, finanacial analyst, tax specialist, etc. how many of you consciously do not go to that person, because you believe they should “be staying at home” with their children?
You don’t.
If that person has a history or reputation of providing good service you use them. How they manage their personal affairs is not germane, because their family life is not impacting their professional life.
What I’ve noticed is that liberals get truly upset when conservatives don’t follow the stereotype that liberals imagine us to be.
The liberal guy I carpool to work with, was upset at me for not d*mning Palin because her daughter engaged in pre-marital sex.
I explained…
1) Nearly all teenagers rebel at some time against parental teachings. That’s not necessarily a mark against the parent.
2) She wants to keep the baby instead of killing it for convenience.
3) She and her boyfriend/fiancee are getting married, and will be raising the child in a loving, family setting.
4) The families have publicly stated that they will support and help Bristol and Levi through this difficult (but rewarding) time.
Points 2-4 are conservative family values, as well as discouraging pre-marital sex. Bristol and Levi are taking responsibility for their actions… and that’s one of our greatest conservative values.
How can I fault the Palins? They not only talk conservative, but also live out their convictions. If anything, I hold them in even higher respect.
Needless to say, my liberal friend didn’t eat lunch with me that whole week…
If you think those are man hands, there are other issues involved.
Yes dear lgm
is a problem. And just what caused that problem? Could it be political hacks taking over the education system, the Department of Education and entirely too much money chasing ever diminishing returns? There is nothing Barack Hessein Obama could do about it but make it worse. The only thing a President Palin or McCain could do about it is get the Federal government out of the way and B slap the Federal judges to do the same.
Our schools do not need to worry about self esteem, daddy’s room mate or who has two mommies. Spend a large portion of the day with basket weaving and feeling and yes education will suffer. But dear lgm what about
Sisterhood of the Protected Female Liberal Journalists?
And no, telling us about Karl Rove does not count.
““Your responsibility is to put your family first,” Gutman lectured as he singled out Palin’s Down’s Syndrome baby and pregnant teenage daughter. “The proper attack is not that a woman shouldn’t run for vice president with five kids, it’s that a parent, when they have a family in need,” should get out of the public sphere and stay home.”
As Sambo #53 mentioned ( the only mention from what I see ) – No one chastised Joe Biden for not ‘getting out of the public sphere and staying home” when immediately after his wife and daughter died in a car crash, leaving him with two young sons – in the hospital – he continued on with his senatorial career… including the travel time….
Now, he’s lauded by the same campaign personnel as having overcome challenges and managed a great career while caring for his two sons ( which I applaud ).
Why can’t they give the same accolades to Sarah Palin?
STANDING OVATION for Michelle Malkin!!
Why can’t our Republican Party politicians routinely make their points so distinctly like Michelle does in this article? Just nail them with fact after fact they couldn’t possibly refute. The drive byes will call them attacks and Democrats will “shuck and jive” without addressing the hypocrisy, but liberals need to be called out in this fashion everyday.
I want to see and hear more just like Michelle’s column from more Republicans. PLEASE!! John McCain can you hear me???????
There are a lot of “female sexism” and “lipstick” posts today. It’s good to answer them once–but don’t spend so much time on them that you fall into the “rope a dope” victim category.
The best way to win this election against the Messiah and his socialist / communist plans is to clearly point out the damage Obama will do to our economy, military strength, and the U.S.A. demographics via illegal immigration amnesty / welfare programs. Then point out what will happen during the first 100 days of an Obama presidency with a Pelosi / Reed democratic controlled Congress.
Think of what happens at a Mexican bullfight. The bull goes for the cape at first–not the matador (killer in Spanish). The matador puts the bull away quickly when he sees him start to move his head (and horns) towards him as he charges the cape. His worst fear is a bull that ignores the cape and goes straight for the matador as soon as he enters the ring.
The strong ladies have shown they can pick out the Messiah right off the bat–the SarahCuda, Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham, and Tammy Bruce know where the target really lives. Ditto for Glen Beck.
Rocketman
Yet nobody thought Biden was wrong for staying in Congress instead of being at home for his family after they lost their mother and sibling in a car crash.
They will once you quit and make room for a teacher that teaches instead of indoctrinates.
Depends. Are liberals going to be more focused on teaching revisionist American history, fuzzy math, and “feel good” sex-ed or are they actually going to – you know – teach?
Kids in other nations have far more rigorous academic programming. They spend significant amounts of time studying and doing homework. They take pride in high achievement.
In many schools, especially in minority areas, success in education is considered “acting white” and frowned upon. I know – MPS is a bastion for this treatment.
American schools punish success and reward mediocrity. They don’t teach; they indoctrinate.
It has nothing to do with funding…and everything to do with the political agenda of liberal teachers and teachers’ unions. To wit, check out this agenda of resolutoins from the National Education Association conference:
If that’s what passes for okay education in your eyes…you’re part of the problem.
Why? Obama has never answered a real issue, and besides, you don’t get to dictate, at least in this forum, which issue we talk about.
That fey booger who was on Laura’s show last week ticked me off so bad, I switched it off. As a single working mom, I’m sure Laura wanted to throttle him.
How dare these women question what Sarah Palin does with her family when they have tried to raise children with their own high-octane careers. For years Katie Couric shuttled her small children between D.C. and NYC so Couric can go chase her pot of gold on the Today show, while they only saw their father twice a week. A man who eventually died. Those girls were left with nannies and au pairs most of the time, especially when Couric was off on assignment outside of the studio.
There IS a price to pay for a life in politics or any other career that demands a lot of your time and energy. But I don’t see Palin complaining.
There’s an old saying – “If you want something done, give it to a busy person.”
Great column, Michelle. Logic and facts to back them up, these two never share the same space when you read a lot of the leftists writings.
The Foundation turned down a request for money to improve the teaching of algebra, but gave $200,000 for the teaching of junteenth.
HELLO!!!! LGM!!! I posted an issue and you disappeared… oh well…
You go, englishqueen01 #82! Hear Hear!
How to fix the problem of education?
1. Stop assuming everyone wants an education. There are a large number of students (and their parents) who believe an education beyond reading is a waste of time. These students consume a large amount of the time and energy of the teaching staff. This, more than money,is why highly qualified people do not chose to teach. If you spent the majority of the day trying to maintain order you would want to sell shoes instead.
Students who do not want an education should be allowed to find a job. Not a job working in a hazardous environment, but a job that will bring them into the world of work and self sufficency.
2. Treat teachers as professionals. This means giving these people, who have usually earned a graduate degree, the authority to teach their subject. On the flip side, they also get to be held accountable for the outcomes of their teaching, but only if we have solved problem 1.
And you believed him? Try to develop some thinking skills. Try to find an instance where he has said the same thing about a Democratic man (or woman) running for office. Or doing any time-consuming job.
Hint – you might want to read MM’s article before running your mouth.
Abolish the teachers unions.
The real problem for Obama is that Palin is not only an attractive mother of five, and not only a popular governor, she is also more masculine than that effete metrosexual.
Who would you bet on in a fight?
Those CNN anchors are so catty my cat says:

Wow. You ROCK!
Thanks for another outstanding column, Michelle. Keep up the good work!
Homeschool!
One thing which is not commented on enough is the way in which Palin is completely overshadowing McCain. McCain is almost the forgotten man at the moment. Who do the crowds cheer for at their joint appearences? Not McCain.
If they win, it will be because Palin carried McMoron across the finishing line on her back.
Homeschooling is good, but simply abolishing the unions and filling the ranks of teachers with, well, teachers would be a good move.
Is the photo of Katie Couric the “fingerpointing” you were talking about, Michelle?
