I don't know if anyone else here has read Bill Whittle"s blog; it requires a bit of time to read and digest as his style of writing is generally more like guided meandering than a direct shot to the point. But it's worth carving out the time to read, and there was one post, relating to conspiracy theories, that I read (and Furled) last April. Within it is a personally significant passage; it's about three-quarters of the way down the page under the sub-header 9/11 and The Birth of a Notion, where Bill writes about his father's burial at Arlington in 2002, and "[the] man who coordinated the service":

[He] was on a hill about a half-mile from that side of the Pentagon on the morning of September 11th, 2001. He told me that they had been informed that something was going on in New York that morning. Then he heard something that he said he thought was a missile attack -- a roar so loud and so far beyond a normal jet sound that he looked up at that exact moment expecting to die. What he saw emerge from the trees overhead, perhaps a hundred feet above him, was American Airlines Flight 77 as it went by in a silver blur, engines screaming in a power dive as it hit the near side of the Pentagon. He told me -- to my face -- that body parts had rained down all over that sacred field. Just like red hail on a summer day. Those body parts are buried in a special place at the base of that hill.

That's what my brother's son saw that day - that, and the aftermath at the Pentagon itself. 9/11 conspiracy theorists had better steer well clear of me, and not just today.

I am surprised at the number listed as missing. I guess that shows the severity of the attack. It is so sad. Our family will never forget. I pray our nation doesn’t.

I watched the Pentagon burn that morning from my office window. The plume of smoke was dark and ascended higher than anything I had ever seen.

A colleague had a ticket for that flight but had to reschedule at the last moment due to workload. Some days you get lucky.

When I found out Barbara Olson had perished in the terrorist attack, and why she was on the plane, I was even more saddened. She was a very intelligent and classy person who I had seen on TV several times.

I will never forget that day. But, it seems like too many of those on the left already have.
