The McCains and Obama at Ground Zero

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 11, 2008 04:24 PM

I’m watching the livestream of the joint appearance by John McCain and Barack Obama at Ground Zero right now.

Cindy McCain is also there. Michelle Obama is not — as the cable networks are pointing out, not just me.

4:30pm Eastern. Obama looks lost, trying to find someone’s hand to shake.

Fox reports Michelle Obama is home with her kids.

The girls started school on Monday. Their mother has been campaigning in the states surrounding Illinois so that she can be home with them in the evening. Why is this even an issue?

I believe its is because MO can be everywhere else less important as of late than at Ground Zero w/r/t 9/11 -she must have hired help for the kids-but as a potential first lady she can’t show up for the memorial?? (none of her kids are in the hospital), I’d say that is pretty tacky if not damning of her true views of America.

Are you naturally an idiot or do you work at it? Don’t get much attention? Your post doesn’t even deserve an explanation. People like you take up too much time as it is.

Are you incapable of arguing without insults?

If she had shown up, most everyone here would have been all pissed off, saying she doesn’t belong there since she doesn’t love America. So if you don’t think she belonged there in the first place, why is everyone so pissed off that she wasn’t there?

There might have been a couple people with those comments, but not all.

It’s silly to pretend that everyone here hasn’t already decided that she hates this country

And that is based on her words. You can try to spin what she said about being proud of her country for the first time or how we’re a downright mean country if you want to.

That’s a woman who knows how to dress. Not every woman can wear black and she wears it very well. I wonder if first ladies still have stylists? I know Jackie had Oleg Cassini and Laura is often seen in Oscar de la Renta.

Do you think it was a smart move, strategically speaking that is, opting out of visiting Ground Zero?

I don’t know if you guys have seen this yet, but I am still in tears. On this day, we remember those we lost 7 years ago. What about those who have given their all, or just parts of themselves to advance freedom in Iraq and other parts of the world?
This needs to be shown as a campaign commercial in every battleground state. Especially in areas with demographics heavy in older folks and veterens.
If this does not grab your heart, there is something wrong with you.

The “she wanted to spend time with her kids” mantra rings a tad hollow. This is a Presidential election, and Michelle Obama’s actions speak louder than usual.

Interesting that she did not have time for the 9/11 service, but she did have time to attend the Tubbs Jones memorial service in Ohio last week. Priorities. And judgment.

Michele has also interjected herself into this campagin by giving very partisan speeches (most notably at the convention) and doing fundraisers for her husband, with lots of attention from the press. Neither she, or her decisions on which functions to attend as the nominee’s wife, are off limits. You cannot have it both ways.

I will say that I do not believe Michelle Obama to be evil, or that she really hates America, I just find her to be another mis-guided liberal that needs redemption. She is somewhat a victim of her own circumstances as she has the education, the income and the opportunity to expand her horizons a little beyond the ‘victimhood’ mentality that most liberals, and especialy those liberals who are minorities, are so good at.

I have a genuine question here: why are you here? You show in every way that you’re not here to get the other side but spread empty-worded blather about “liberal principles” like it’s truth. There is no honest insight on your part about the challenges that face the country. You, like the other liberals, blame Pres Bush, without any deeper self-reflection.

Seriously, do you really care about the country, nyk? Or only when a black liberal candidate grabs your attention? What have you done to remember this day? Did you ever thank a military member? Do any liberals on this blog do that?

Awe…she is home with her kids. Of course. She is now going to be turned into “Supermom” who is always there for her children and would never put them aside for something like a career, or to be with her husband to honor those lost on 9-11, showing pride for her country…a country she only now found pride in. She isn’t used to expressing it yet. You have to forgive her.

And why would Odhimmi not look out of place and such? He doesn’t wan tot be anywhere that Bush and the Federal Government planned to do something such as these attacks.

Odhimmi can say all he wants to say, he can do all he wants to do, but he cannot hide how he really feels. His body language has and will always give it away.

And people still think his patriotism and love of country shouldn’t be questioned.

Bemusedlib, MO’s actions underscore why so many Americans view the Obamas as rank amateurs politically. Barack wants to be President…then he needs to act like one…that is actually exude leadership and the woman who purports to be his wife has a role to play in that support.

What Michelle Obama has done is in effect “I really don’t care…and if my husband gets in office my indifference will be manifest”. Just as I found in marriage, if you forgive a slight like this it will be repeated over and over again.

How will you rally anyone to your cause if treat fallen civillians and soldiers with indifference to an attack on our soil???

Michelle Obama once again has shown she has no class.
