What the hell is the matter with The New Republic?
Track Palin, 19, enlisted in the Army last year. This week, he is headed to Iraq. Gov. Sarah Palin flew to Alaska last night to see him off. She will speak ahead of his deployment. He will be gone for a year.
So, what is The New Republic obsessing about as the teenager prepares to fight for our country on the seventh anniversary week of 9/11?

My wife’s cousin was one of the meanest SOB’s ever to lace on a pair of skates, but to meet him off the ice you would be shocked, he is a soft-spoken biochemist that likes to play piano in a jazz band. Well, except when he steps back on the ice to play in an adult league hockey game.
The temper and passion that someone shows on a field or in a rink says nothing about how they are off of it. I would like to point out Reggie White, Mike Singletary, Walter Payton, and Merlyn Olson; all were mean SOB’s on the field and about as nice as you could find off.

My husband played hockey in high school and speant quite a bit of time in the penalty box (so I’m told). He also enlisted in the military and went to Iraq. Oh no, I should probably be fearing for our children’s lives!
First, I fail to see the significance of this; however I certainly would want a young man to have a little fire under his hat rather than just be a push-over. Most children that I am around today are taught to just “get along” with every weirdo and creep that comes along.
We certainly would not want a child to be able to think for themselves and then stand up for what they believer, would we? (sarc)
If this were a liberal’s child, the left leaning media would be saying that this might be the next great leader, fighter, and thinker of our time. Since it is a conservatives child, well, this child must have some kind of behavorial inability to get along problem or disease.

Bizarre? This is bizarre? Why, because a family friend used the word “temper?” Or because this young man has a passion to play hockey and brought it with him to the ice? Or maybe because he was a fierce competitor who found himself in the penantly box like every other hockey player? Oh, oh, I think I have it! Is it because someone took the time to write a story about the son of a political candidate and to suggest that his hockey playing ways equate to an anger management problem? Yep, that is bizarre.
And if he was a wuss or a benchwarmer, TNR would be reporting that Gov. Palin is not a “real” hockey mom.
Keep it coming. When people like someone, they’ll forgive a million sins. That’s why Rezko and Ayers aren’t sticking to BHO among the left. First of all, let me make this clear so no one misunderstands my post. This is an absolutely idiotic story and only demonstrates the sheer desperation of the left. I’m certain Track is a fine young man and we’re lucky to have him in our Armed Forces.
By way of explanation for the drive-by media vultures; I played ice hockey, and violence is part of the game, just as it is in football and many other contact sports. This “story” is the sports equivalent of the drive-by media breathlessly reporting a Thousand rounds of ammunition in someone’s house (if you’re not a gun person, you won’t find the humor and absurdity). Of course it’s possible to cross the line of good sportsmanship and act outside the bounds of the rules. Most players, whether professional or amateur, will cross that line once or twice (more for some). Young adults have a lot of undirected or misdirected emotion and pysical energy, and learning how to deal with it constructively is part of growing up. Organized sports is a great way to teach a young man (or woman) how to deal with that and to focus it in a positive direction. Bottom line, there’s nothing to see here folks… move along.
But, just to play with the drive-bys I’ll leave you with this. If you were going to send either Wayne Gretzky or Marty McSorely to kill terrorists, which would you send?
