Team Obama’s new best friend: Karl Rove

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 15, 2008 03:44 PM

The latest mass e-mail from Team Obama cites none other than Karl Rove approvingly — using his comments yesterday that McCain had gone “too far” in his attack ads to raise more money for the nutroots.

There’s ample room to criticize McCain (see, for example, here). Going far enough in challenging Barack Obama is not one of them, Mr. Rove.

Subject: Karl Rove: McCain went ‘too far’
To:

Make a donation and double your impact Even Karl Rove had to admit yesterday that the McCain campaign’s lies and negative attacks have gone “too far.”

John McCain is running the most negative and dishonest campaign in modern presidential history. He has demonstrated that he’d rather lose his integrity than lose this election.

It’s right out of the Bush-Rove playbook. Unfortunately, as Karl Rove knows better than anyone, these shameful tactics have worked in the past.

This year, we can’t let that happen.

Our goal is to bring 50,000 new donors into our movement by Friday at midnight.

And if you make your first online donation today, your gift will go twice as far. A previous donor has promised to match every dollar you donate.

Double your impact right now. Your matched donation of $5 will become $10 if you donate today.

The culture of corruption and dishonesty that has hurt America so badly the last eight years is playing an even larger role in McCain’s campaign.

Just this past week, John McCain hired a Washington super-lobbyist to fill positions in a potential McCain-Palin White House. At least 177 lobbyists have been on McCain’s campaign staff, and apparently he hopes to run the White House the same way.

Also this week, the McCain campaign continued to repeat a number of outrageous lies, even after watchdogs in the media called them “shamelessly misleading,” “thoroughly dishonest,” and “a toxic mix of lies and double-speak.”

They also lied about the crowd size at one of their rallies — reporting 23,000 attendees when there were only 8,000.

McCain’s campaign — run on lobbyists and lies — is no match for this unprecedented grassroots movement. More than 2,500,000 people have stepped up to own a piece of this campaign.

But if we want change, we must continue to grow this movement and put an end to these dishonorable political tactics. And we have just 50 days left to do it.

Right now, a previous donor — an ordinary person just like you — has promised to match your donation if you step up today.

Double your impact to combat McCain’s dishonest campaign tactics — make a matched donation of $5 or more today:

Thanks for all you do,

David

Actually, Rove was addressing BOTH campaigns – not just McCain’s. He began, in fact, by condemning Obama’s ridiculous email ads. And he was quite correct to point out that reaching for that last barb is, indeed, stooping. Up to this point, McCain has done an admirable job of staying away from the gutter, but he is straying dangerously close to it. It’s a bad place to be – voters don’t like it.

It may already be gnawing at the momentum McCain’s shown over the last few weeks; his lead in the popular polls as dropped considerably over the weekend.

While he still has the spotlight and the nation’s attention, McCain should plant a flag on the high ground and call for a diminishment of such rhetoric on both sides. Obama seems completely incapable of doing so. Use that to force him into a corner.

It’s about issues, folks. Not about who can craft the cleverest, lowest insult.

For several types of contributors, the amounts that may be given are essentially unlimited:

The limits being discussed above apply to individual donors. There are many other recognized categories.

That said, I suspect this is, quite simply, a lie designed to squeeze money out of donors. A nationwide email campaign of this sort has the potential to raise vast sums of money, with the Mystery Donor left on the hook to match that amount. It is also extremely unusual to hide the identity of such a donor. I’m betting there isn’t one.

Someone with time on their hands and some accounting skills might profitably poke around in Obama’s public records with this email in mind. It has that fishy smell to it.

There are plenty of opportunities to challenge Obama without lying about him.

    Yet…

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told Planned Parenthood Tuesday [July 2007] that sex education for kindergartners, as long as it is “age-appropriate,” is “the right thing to do.”

“I remember Alan Keyes . . . I remember him using this in his campaign against me,” Obama said in reference to the conservative firebrand who ran against him for the U.S. Senate in 2004. Sex education for kindergarteners had become an issue in his race against Keyes because of Obama’s work on the issue as chairman of the health committee in the Illinois state Senate.

“‘Barack Obama supports teaching sex education to kindergarteners,’” said Obama mimicking Keyes’ distinctive style of speech. “Which — I didn’t know what to tell him (laughter).”

“But it’s the right thing to do,” Obama continued, “to provide age-appropriate sex education, science-based sex education in schools.”

We could likely debate the amount of detail that might have been discussed in order to be “age-appropriate” or the other details of the proposed legislation (which failed in Illinois), but to continuously denounce it as a lie is inaccurate.

She doesn’t defend McCain from the charges in the Plouffe letter. McCain’s campaign is run by lobbyists. They overstate the size of their rallies. How disrespectful!

And Obama’s campaign isn’t run by criminals and lobbyists?? wow! /sarc

This was a great incentive to contact the McCain campaign and make a donation. I asked them to send me a McCain for President bumper sticker.

The Republicans will most likely lose this election because, unlike the Democrats, they do not stick together. The comment by Rove was not a smart move.

Choosing Biden as his running mate was no “smart move” for Sen. Obama.

With a little luck, it should be possible to get Biden to endorse McCain.

Every time Biden hits his tonsils with his foot, it amounts to the same thing.

McCain has made a deal at “the crossroads”. He’ll do anything to win this election. If he wins, I can only hope that he goes back to his old honorable, mavericky “middle finger to the Right” ways. McCain has learned in recent years that you can’t be a nice, honorable guy, and win a major election.

The first outright LIE McCain told during his campaign was when he tried to act like Mitt Romney supported a pullout timetable to leave Iraq. I despise Romney, but I admit that it was a lie. McCain has been shady and misleading ever since. This is JohnnyMac’s last chance, and he doesn’t care if his integrity takes a hit as he goes for the prize.
    “Just win, baby”

Obama has to get dirtier himself if things don’t improve by the middle of October.

    “Just win, baby”

I love and hate politics equally.

So…Satan himself, the man that could not be trusted to walk on the other side of the street as their children, is now The Voice, the only one they can trust and believe?

Of course, they left out all the other things he said, how he criticized Hussein and his lies and such. That would have completely negated what they were trying to do.

They just have no limits to their disgusting lives and beliefs.

    Hypocrisy…thy name is Liberalism.
