PDS Alert: Us Weekly and friends are at it again

Left-wing bloggers have unearthed a new, Deep Important Issue to wield against Sarah Palin:

The personal tanning bed she installed at the governor’s mansion in Alaska.

She bought the used tanning bed from a health club with her own money.

So, what is the point?

Oh, wait, there is none.

But it’s a great opportunity for Palin-haters to mock her looks again and for Obama cultist publisher Jann Wenner to use Us Weekly to bash Palin again:

Some of the nutroots haters seriously argue that Palin’s tanning bed is a sign of “elitism” akin to John Edwards’ $400 haircuts.

Here’s the TPM Muckraker blog clucking its tongue:

“The news of Palin’s luxurious purchase — beds can cost as much as $35,000 — presents a sharp contrast to the blue-collar persona she projects on the campaign trail.”

Can they be more out of touch? Tanning beds have long been derided as “white trash” and “redneck.”

The “elitist” thing to do would have been for Sarah to have hired a personal umbrella carrier to shield her from the sun.

Next up: Us Weekly and company investigate the Sarah Palin’s eyebrow waxing appointments, Todd Palin’s beard grooming preferences, and the children’s dental hygiene habits.

America must know the truth!

***

Allahpundit points out the health benefits of tanning beds non-Alaskans have ignored. Having lived in Seattle for more than three years, I know exactly what light deprivation does!

***
On a related note, Us Weekly has now gone to Amazon.com for help in boosting its sagging circulation after its Palin-bashing debacle. (Guess the five-free issue offer from the rag’s customer service department flopped.)

A reader sends the e-mail notice he received yesterday from Amazon.com.

Oh, that would be a disaster for her. All they would need to do is pull up that old “cartoon” from England in the 1770s, with the parasol slave, and then accuse her of wanting to bring back slavery. They don’t need to prove anything, just accusing her is enough, as proof.

Speaking with my psychologist hat on: Alaska’s geographic location means they have longer hours of dark in winter. One of the best ways to combat the effects of lots of hours of dark is – exposure to light sources. And tanning beds are a good way to do just that. (I actually had a student once from Alaska whose family did that too.)

As a random note, my mother bought a tanning bed. It cost her 2K, and was a bargain compared to driving to a tanning salon.

Now, imagine you’re in Alaska, where the sun isn’t always up in such a fashion that you can get a healthy tan. Salons probably make a fortune up there in the cities, and gouge the price like mad.

The Sarah Palin Phenomenon is doomed.

But it’s not because of her lack of foreign policy experience or her deer-in-the-headlights look during part of her interview last week with ABC’s Charles Gibson.

The primary reason why the Palin bubble will burst is that the media will decide that they are bored with her. They’ll need to move to shine a light on a fresh issue or individual.

So the media is in control now? Who writes this crap? How many bong hits do I have to take before I dare reach this level of writing mastery?

You may be onto something there. Recall a National Geographic article, before they turned PC on Siberia I think, and there was a photo of a group of children huddled aroung a UV light, the purpose of which was to use the UV light to stimulate/provide (??) which they would otherwise be deproved of due to the long winter: i.e., little to no sun.

Have these freaks not noticed? It’s DARK in Alaska a lot of the year. That is because the SUN is below the horizon, and the “day” consists of just a few hours. A lot of people who live in the Northwest use sun lamps, a slightly smaller version of a tanning bed perhaps, but a device that compensates for the overcast in places like Seattle. I make a prediction: it will only be a matter of hours before someone makes a connection and accuses Gov. Palin (or someone in the family) of suffering Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) which is usually treated with exposure to the sun…or an equivalent like a sun lamp or tanning bed. Forgive me for making that connection so some troll can dig it up, but I’m certain some poor Left trash will figure it out soon. Even though its bogus.

It’s sad that feminists-Democrats would savage and penalize this woman for not being a childless, man-hating liberal with the appearance of a runner-up in a Jane Hathaway lookalike contest (apologies to Nancy Kulp), but that’s their problem – not the electorate’s!

BTW: I don’t think Tina Fey did herself any favors in trying to diminish VP Palin’s intelligence on SNL: Fey’s dark circles around her eyes really stood out without her signature black frame glasses and the up-swept hair really elongated the distance between her eyes and chin line.

Can you imagine the howling over here if Joe Biden had a tanning bed?

That howling would be in your head because none of us would care.

She can’t be bothered to talk to reporters,

She has been on many news shows and will be on more.

shows zero knowledge of the world or our country besides rehearsed talking points,

What do you base this on?

because obviously she finds tanning a better use of her time than reading.

    Typical left wing baseless smear.

No, dude, what we howl about is Biden’s son and brother milking their relationship with Joe to make scads of money as lobbyists. And we get upset about Obama claiming to have slept through church every Sunday for 20 years. And we don’t appreciate his launching his political campaign in the house of an unrepentant domestic terrorist.

Joe Biden in a tanning bed? Frankly, none of want to THINK about that picture.

Oddly enough, none of you leftists care that Obama sat in a church where the self-serving, arrogant pastor railed against this country claiming to KNOW God’s will. But, you try to make hay over the fact that a humble Sarah Palin actually prayed she might discern God’s will and be strong enough to do it! Go figure.

Buy yourself some “sunlight.” If I was a resident in Alaska… I’d probably have one tucked away someplace, for those long, dark winter months.

Vice President Palin is an excellent candidate for any office. President McCain, for all his shortcomings, has run an excellent campaign, keeping his mouth shut at approriate times, and saying EXACTLY the right things when opening it. There were a few mistakes in the early going, but Barack Oblahma has pretty much handed him the presidency, showing pretty early on that he was little more than a lightweight, if even that.

President McCain is showing us just how much truth there is to the old saying, “give a man enough rope, and he’ll hang himself”.

Maybe this has something to do with why Sarah Palin doesn’t get out any more than Biden (which is actually BS – watch her on TV tonight), who hasn’t been all that accessible, either. But sitting back and letting the Oblahma campaign and other liberal nutjobs make all the mistakes has worked wonders as a strategy so far, so why would anyone want to change it?

Excellent question! The answer is easy. She is totally clueless on economy, domestic and foreign policy issues and it would be a disgrace to [s]elect somebody like her. First of all, you know as well as I do that the so-called Bush Doctrine never was just one specific “plan”, but just a name the media gave to many of Pres. Bush’s policies. So get off that. It has been discussed to death. I am also very tired of hearing about certain things being just a continuation of Bush. So what??? He had some very good policies that need to be continued. The only people who think George Bush is satan are the lefties. Continuing some of his policies is a GOOD thing. Cutting taxes is something George Bush did and continuing that is necessary. Four more years of the Bush Administration? Bring it on!
