Good link on this site yesterday that takes you to an article that discusses population density, cost of land and ability to support a family. In a place like Alaska (in general), a PhD in Rural Radicalism is much less valuable than a job with an oil company. The PhD would make less money and be less able to support a family. Trust fund babies can afford a Master’s in Asian American Studies in a way that working people’s children cannot.

Stock’s “reasoning” is powerfully reminiscent of the “witch” scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail:

Take a vehicle with a McCain/Palin bumper sticker most anywhere in the Pacific Northwest outside of the Blue Metro hotbeds of Seattle & Portland. Chances of anything happening to my car would be nil.
However, park the same car into Seattle or Portland. There’s a good chance it will be vandalized within a day, if not an hour.
The intolerance of the intensely politically bigoted left is well known and easy to document and prove.
I had to giggle at this lady’s idiocy.

Exactly. Thanks for pointing this out. I’d love to put a McCain sticker on my car, or lawn sign, but I’m afraid of the Portland-area “witchhunt.” I’m even wary of adding the McCain/Palin group to my Facebook – I work for a very liberal company and I don’t want to jeopardize my job.

A no name college with a no name professor. Sounds like a place where lgm teaches.
Colleges are the last vestige where someone can study the most convoluted area of thought (rural radicalism) and call it serious work. This kind of reminds me of Obummer’s mother going native and really going “after” her work as a cultural anthropologist studying rural villagers in Indonesia.
If I had to do it over again, I probably would not have chosen history. I love history but it’s been hijacked by left-wing ideologues for the past 30-40 years so that they can “rewrite” American history into some kind of portrayal about “the man” abusing “the minority” or “the woman.”
If students aren’t taught to be open-minded in the first place then they will be tools for liberals’ future plans. That’s why I’m so disenchanted when I hear people like mj criticize me for not going off on Pres. Bush because it’s my responsibility to teach the Bush Doctrine to impressionable youths. That’s not what I signed on as a teacher.
Elites like this professor look down on “regular folk.” They think that their positiond enable them to lecture people on how to think and live their lives. Look no further than my hometown of Ithaca, NY where you hardly ever see professors mingle with “townies.” Professors think they’re better than everyone else, once they secure tenure and can study their obscure subjects to their heart’s content.
There is a huge disconnect between people like this chick, lgm and Americans who work “real” jobs to keep America moving. Colleges keep the sheeple indoctrinated.
Simple observation of her record can determine that. If there had been anything it would already have been reported.

Conn faces the same infestation of the libs as virtually 95% of US Colleges. As the parent of a recent graduate I can say that this is a quality college – and to throw out the baby with the bathwater as I see is done here is just stupid. There are many, many high caliber and non-biased professionals teaching at Conn – they are dedicated to teaching kids to think – not to swallow what they think. To condemn all based on the stupidity of some is not only unfair, but a losing proposition.
You are not going to stop the indoctrination until we get better teachers, but you can protect your children by teaching them to think for themselves and to look at all sides of an issue before deciding. They can be the leaders and teachers of the future.
I will be writing the president of the college to express my outrage at this teachers uneducated and biased remarks and I urge you to do the same – Pres. Leo Higdon lee.higdon@conncoll.edu. Our institutions need to understand when the line is crossed.

Not just a glob of contiguous real estate, but separately functioning entities that willingly come together for the betterment of the whole, and that reserve the right to challenge that “wholeness” when it is no longer for the betterment of all.
