The book-banners Hollywood ignores

Photoshop: David Lunde
My syndicated column today lambastes the hypocrisy of Hollyweird Palin-bashers who’ve been hysterically pounding the Scary Book Banner meme.
Some books are more equal than others…
As a flashback companion piece, I recommend going back and re-reading this post on the left-wing library lobby and this terrific piece by David Durant on “The Loneliness of a Conservative Librarian.”

Have you ever heard Hollywood liberals talk about suspected Islamic jihadists the way they talk about suspected Republican “book-banners?” The September 11 terrorist attacks didn’t turn celebrity leftists into hawks. But the minute they started reading false rumors about Sarah Palin restricting unfettered access to “Daddy’s Roommate” and “Heather Has Two Mommies” in her hometown library, Tinseltown’s docile doves became militant warmongers.
Actor Matt Damon, parroting left-wing Internet lies about Sarah Palin censoring novels while mayor of Wasilla, took a defiant stand against the “terrifying possibility” of a McCain-Palin victory. “We can’t have” book-banning, he inveighed.
And now we know what keeps feminist playwrights like Eve Ensler (”The Vagina Monologues”) awake at night. Not Iranian nuclear ambitions or al Qaeda beheading videos. She is haunted by nightmares of Bible-thumping, book-burning Sarah Palin. A McCain/Palin ticket “is one of the most dangerous choices” of her lifetime, Ensler seethed in her viral call-to-arms e-mail, because “Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking,” The evidence: “From what I gather she has tried to ban books from the library, has a tendency to dispense with people who think independently. She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference.”
Classic projection. Damon, Ensler, and the anti-censorship crusaders are the unthinking ones who can’t tolerate independence, ambiguity, and difference. The rumor-mongers continue to spread a bogus banned book list attributed to Palin that includes books not even published at the time she served as mayor. No city records corroborate Internet reports that she tried to keep pro-homosexual books, as gay lobbying organizations have claimed, or any other books off government-funded library shelves available to children.
And even if she did inquire about the process, so what? Regulating age-appropriate content is only alarming to the same kind of civil liberties extremists who oppose reasonable filtering of sexually explicit material in public spaces Who is scarier: Hockey moms who want to put tax-subsidized books about lesbian couples out of reach of kindergarteners or Hollyweird ideologues who want to ensure that homeless people can surf porn websites in your neighborhood library?
If book banning is such a life-and-death issue to these celebrity foot soldiers for free speech, where were they four years ago when John Kerry and his rabid minions were pressuring Regnery Publishing to withdraw “Unfit for Command” from bookstores? Where were they when members of the Borders Books Employee Union were openly advocating sabotaging book sales? A message on the union’s members-only website urged:
You guys don’t actually HAVE to sell the thing!
Just “carelessly” hide the boxes, “accidentally” drop them off pallets, “forget” to stock the ones you have, and then suggest a nice Al Franken or Micheal Moore book as a substitute…
I don’t care if these Neandertals (sic) in fancy suits get mad at me, they aren’t regular customers anyway. Other than “Left Behind” books, they don’t read. Anything you can do to make them feel unwelcome is only fair. They are the people pushing retailers to cut costs, don’t forget. And they would censor your speech, your books, your music in a heartbeat, so give them a taste of it!
Where were they when left-wing hit man David Brock of Media Matters for America sent a demand letter to Wal-Mart, Amazon.com, and Barnes & Noble urging them to pull “Unfit for Command” from their shelves?
Where were they two years ago when two Democrat lawmakers, New Jersey Assemblywomen Joan Quigley and Linda Stender, called on merchants to ban the sale of Ann Coulter’s book, Godless,” because of her remarks about anti-Bush 9/11 widows. “No one in New Jersey should buy this book and allow Ann Coulter to profit from her hate-mongering,” the politicians lashed out. “We are asking New Jersey retailers statewide to stand with us and express their outrage by refusing to carry or sell copies of Coulter’s book. Her hate-filled attacks on our 9-11 widows has no place on New Jersey bookshelves.”
Where were they in 2005, when a University of North Carolina law professor, Eric Muller, called on his blog readers to get one of my books banned from a national parks bookstore? Where were they when J. Millard Burr and Robert O. Collins’s “Alms for Jihad” was banned in Britain; Robert Spencer’s “The Truth about Muhammad” was banned in Pakistan; and “The Jewel of Medina” was banned, well, everywhere?
And where are they now? Stewing in their salons and screenwriting rooms. Concocting horror stories about terrifying Christian conservative bogeymen who threaten peace, tolerance, independent thought, ambiguity, and difference. Patting themselves and each other on the backs as the valiant protectors of dissent.
(But only the kind with which they agree, of course. Shhhhh.)

“With all due respect, many in the entertainment industry are deep into mind-altering substance abuse, and when one’s logic and intellectual calculating powers are replaced with dopey feel-good, fantasy- driven denial, the democratic party serves them well,” Nugent blasted.
~Ted Nugent on Hollyweird morons
Michelle, michelle, michelle, how are they going to maintain control of the masses if they can’t control what they read? It is clearly more important to push homosexual marriage than to find out the truth about presidential candidates. /sarcasm off
hippycrites
Where were they when some simple CARTOONS were banned? Good lord those people are idiots.
Hmmm…try putting a Bible in a public elementary school library and then put “Heather Has Two Mommies” in there. Sit back and watch libs explode in a cloud of hypocracy.
Seems to me the terrorist already have a network in place with some of these “librarians” in charge. I am just sooooo grateful that they know better than the rest of us. Now where is that dag-gone sarc button?
Michelle, in the words of Ronald Reagan, there you go again.
You keep pointing out the hypocrisy of the libs. First the female news commentators berating Sarah Palin for not staying at home with her children and now the hypocrisy of the libs and their selective book banning. You go girl.
I must say, they are giving you loads of story lines to run with!
What I don’t get is, why is this so surprising? I am more disturbed that this kind of nonsense no longer seems out of the ordinary.
Excellent job, Michelle. Well Done!
Keep speaking truth to power!
Twofoot,
You have a point there… pretty much -par for the course.
Good stuff, Michelle.
Al Franken and Michael Moore write nice books? I thought they wrote anti-America diatribes.
And yet, the libs don’t want us to know who is checking out books on the terrorism network, how to make bombs, architectural layouts of national buildings, et al. Go figure
“Organizing” their community and hanging out at Grandma’s place in Hawaii - where else?
These communist Demoncrats obviously don’t believe in the Golden Rule:
The decline of decency in our culture can be directly attributed to the banning of a book (The Holy Bible) from public schools.
Why is it that because these people have made a little money (Ok a lot of money) acting in a couple of movies, it somehow makes them experts on political, social and military issues?
Hey Matt, just because you played a genius in a movie doesn’t make you a genius. It just makes you an actor, and not necessarily a good one at that.
Matt Damon is looking more and more like the wussified liberal that is Alan Alda and less and less like the sexiest man alive.
Psssst! Matt, sexy men don’t whine.
Wow.
That was a powerful article! Nice job Michelle.
There’s a difference between banning books in a public library and refusing to sell a book at a private bookstore. Please tell me you recognize this.
Not according to the tirade by the libs. Please refer back to where they did not want a book to be sold (i.e. Michelle’s)
Matt Damon Had this to say in response to Michelle’s piece..
The more knuckleheads like the Matt Damon’s of the hollweird set come out of the closet, the more money is left in my pocket. I rarely buy any dvd’s or go to the movies since all the elite are showing who they really are, and I’m finished buying their crap!
Whatever happened to the Jimmy Stewart’s, and the John Wayne’s of Hollywood who loved our country and didn’t use their celebustatus to bash everything that middle America embraces?
Go to hell Matt Damon, and the rest of your vermin who will not get another nickle from me to provide you with a platform to trash our country.
Why did Obama’s campaign ban TV crews from his two Beverly Hills fundraisers?
Absolutely true. Not only that, sexy men actually can READ! What the heck is going on with the masses as they aren’t even embarrassed by their ignorance and captivation by these false headlines??
Unbelievable. Or then again…I know: par for their self-aggrandizing course.
Can’t wait for An American Carol! Watch Hollywood’s jaw drop when they see the amount of tickets sold. I hope that will be just one more nail in the coffin. It’s tough to kill a liberal zombie you know, but not hard at all to out think’em.
Indeed. Here in the (Gay) Peoples Republik of Kalifornia, our brilliant legislature and governor are about to give us “Harvey Milk Day” or “Gay Day” where our children will set aside a day of their (sic) education to be indoctrinated even further in the anti-God, pro-gay agenda.
Romans 1:28,32 “And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper…and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.”
By the way, I hope its billed as a documentary the way fat boys’ are.
No, bluesock; they’re not different because the issue is the reason behind their efforts. First of all, Sarah Palin never tried to ban books. Let’s not forget this important truth.
Secondly, the celebutards and their fellow lefties are trying to deny access and deny success to ANYTHING with which they disagree. That is the issue. The liberals are the unabashed “Big Brother” censors; not conservatives.
Libs try to shut down free speech on the radio, they shout down and PHYSICALLY ASSAULT (i.e. throw pies in the face of) any speakers they don’t like and slam phone lines of TV and radio shows that *dare* to have conservative speakers on, they sabotage and vilify conservative bloggers, they want to silence conservative media of every kind. They’re hypocrites and Michelle is absolutely right to point this out.
Let us not forget the censorship of political “correctness,” rewriting history for K-12 to exclude the contributions of “old, white men,” and the subtle and not so subtle harrassment you receive as a conservative or someone with a conservative opinion in our colleges and universities.
Of course there is a difference, but pressuring a bookstore to not sell someone’s book because you don’t like the content is still censorship, particularly if you are a representative of the state government, like the two NJ women mentioned in the article. They may not have been acting on behalf of the state, but it is likely they let the booksellers know about their position in the assembly. If I were the owner of a bookstore, I would discipline to the point of termination of employment any employee who tried to stop sale of any books I had agreed to sell.

And how does this relate to the proposed ban on Us Weekly by MM and those on this site?
From the archives: Celebrities — Ask Me If I Really Care
Last night I heard edgy “comediene” Brad Garrett toss in a couple of political remarks in his hip chatter with Jimmy Kimmel. Among other insults to heartland America, Garrett shared with us that he is horrified at the prospect of “trailer trash in the White House.” (He was, of course, not referring to the Oval Office but to the veep’s office in the EOB.)
Every insignificant verbal slight to any pet cause of the Dems requires investigation as a “hate crime,” or at least, the banning of the speech or the suppression of the book. But these obnoxious bastards can go on national TV — even on “newsy” programs — and spew any amount of bile they want on the heartland of America.
There is no reasoning with these people. I more and more expect that all of this will ultimately be settled in the streets. I have been exercising my 2nd Amendment rights to acquire such equipment as I think might be useful at that time.
les, no one proposed banning US Weekly. (Unless I missed something important!) They said they would voice their discontent and not continue to purchase the magazine. Some also said they would encourage others to avoid the magazine. That is not the same thing as “banning” a publication. Now, some said they would hide the magazine from view. That’s not exactly censorship…it’s just making it harder to find.
And two…are you really trying to say that Jon Cryer, Jon Voight, and Gary Sinise are “B” listers? They are in the middle of successful careers. And so what if they were lower on the star totem pole. I don’t need a candidate’s supporters to be movie or rock stars.
The liberal ‘bannings’ you enumerate were requests from citizens to corporations and businesses to stop selling or publishing certain books. That’s an entirely different tact than a government official in an official capacity at an official meeting inquiring about having books removed from the public library because they don’t conform to her wacky religious fundamentalism.
Surely you people can see the difference? This is the place that considered boycotting Dunkin’ Donuts because of a scarf, after all.
As usual, individuals like les or bluesoc have to come along and toss in nonsense to obfuscate the real issues. Thus, threads are derailed, and these geniuses end up proving our points for us.
Amazing, the double standard these people maintain for themselves.
And where are these very same elitist “stars” regarding Iran claiming they have no “gay” people in Iran? Are they fearful the Iranian regime is perhaps murdering these people? No, they are all in a wad over books being possible banned and calling McCain and Palin names like Hitler and Nazi. Note to the Left, the world just recently had the 50th anniversary of the real book banning that occurred in Germany. The people banning and burning the books were biased crazies that did not approve of any religion except their own. The killed Catholics, Jews, and Protestants, but left atheists pretty much alone. Through all of this book banning, and anti-Palin talk, it looks to me like it is the Obama campaign that takes on the mantle of Nazis. They are only for their way of thinking, their ideologies, class warfare, not working with both parties and have obvious hatred towards Christians of any stripe. The Democrats are the ones that want to place bars on our minds and souls, not Republicans.
Michelle’s article also reminded me of Greta’s interview with Sarah’s current pastor. She was asking him about his and the churches view of homosexuals because of all the rumors floating around. I found his answer very touching and one most of us have, but it is so often overlooked by the hatred from the Left about our faith. The pastor said and I paraphrase, that we as Christians love the person but do not agree with the sin. We should not treat people without love because they were created by God. He said it so lovingly while recognizing the sin with compassion but disagreement. The Left cannot comprehend the compassion of Christians. They have to lash out us for objecting to books like “Heather Has Two Mommies” and all because we find it inappropriate for young children just learning their ABC’s! I think their side is the one with all the hate and ignorance.
Lemme guess; you’d be okay forcing the ‘privately-owned’ bars & restaurants to ban smoking in their establishments, right?
“Without free speech no search for truth is possible… no discovery of truth is useful… Better a thousandfold abuse of free speech than denial of free speech. The abuse dies in a day, but the denial slays the life of the people, and entombs the hope of the race.” Charles Bradlaugh
“You have not converted a man because you have silenced him.” John Morley
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police. Yet in their hearts there is unspoken - unspeakable! - fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts! Words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home, all the more powerful because they are forbidden. These terrify them. A little mouse - a little tiny mouse! - of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.” Winston Churchill
And where are my liberal Hollywood friends on Castro jailing journalists & authors, poets, who question his leadership, demand free elections, and seek to build a democratic Cuba??
Posing with Castro for a photo op!!
Effing hypocrites.
Les, do you realize how many winter coats and pairs of new shoes nine million dollars would buy for school kids in Appalachia and other geographical regions in the country, where poverty refuses to relinquish its stifling grip?
Why don’t these A-list Democrat celebrities - if they are truly as concerned about the plight of their fellow Americans as they say they are - raise a couple of million to help those who truly are in need?
This is an excellent point. I support the idea of appealing to other concerned citizens to boycott things that are harmful, but that’s grassroots activity and an exercise in free speech. When elected officials and candidates for POTUS start throwing their weight around to try and shut down free speech, that is truly scary.

Palin didn’t do that; Obama sure did.

Obama doesn’t want the truth to be known.
Obama doesn’t want the truth to be broadcast.
Those who can’t handle the truth,
try to silence those who speak it.
Who are the censors and book-banners?
(Hint: It’s not the Republicans)
If the Hollywood crowd any brains, they’d be speaking up against the ones who ADMIT book burning.
Ok, they’re Quran thumpers, not Bible thumpers.
I always thought the term “libtard” was somewhat juvenile and didn’t really help in advancing conservative thought. Well, I have to say now…If the shoe fits….You dems really think a voluntary boycott is the same as trying to coerce a private business from selling something? and let’s not forget the “fairness” doctrine…libs can’t get a radio audience so they want to force stations to carry their propaganda! Is that free speech?
great article michelle. keep it up.
desertdweller,
Thanks for the links. There is a “culture war” that has been raging for a very long time. America has been a “sleeping giant” through this over several decades, but September 11, 2001 woke a lot of us up.
Much of the Hollywood crowd, though, are either “useful idiots” who are still asleep, or worse they are domestic enemies who are actively fighting against the Judeo-Christian culture that made this country great.
Les:
As someone who actually works in Hollywood I can assure you that Gary Sinise is NOT a B-lister. He can greenlight a movie, or tv series.
As can Patricia Heaton ( TV) & Angie Harmon.
Oh and you forgot a few other ‘B: lister’s:
Denzel Washington, Mel Gibson,James Wood, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Naomi Judd, Adam Sandler,Robert Downey, Jr, Freddie Prinze, Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kelsey Grammer, Kurt Russell, Chuck Norris, Drew Carey, Reba McEntire, Tom Clancy,(anything he authors automatically gets a greenlight in Hollywood) Andrew Breitbart, Dennis Miller, Joe Surnow ( ‘24″) and a long list of sports celebs that include Tiger Woods.
Les is yet another example of the kind of asshats that make up the Dems.
Don’t forget their attempts to ban the Bible from public places, or attempts to rewrite it so it isn’t sexist.
To Matt Damon: shut up and make another Jason Bourne movie! At least you’re good at that!
On September 17th, 2008 at 11:03 am, les said:
You think the Hollywood elite would allow a Republican to be an “A lister”?
Think again.
The actors who showed up to the McCain event deserve a lot of respect for their courage. They stood up for what they believe in, even though it could cost them future work.
America: Land of the Free, and Home of the Brave.
Here’s one for your “progressive” acquaintances:
“When even one “American” — who has done nothing wrong — is forced by fear to shut his mind and close his mouth, then all Americans are in peril.” – Harry S. Truman
172,000. That’s how many book titles are published in the US each year. Somebody has to decide which FEW of those get into a small town library. And somebody gets to decide which books get pulled from the shelves to make room for the new.
Neither process is censorship.
Nor is it censorship for a community to decide — for WHATEVER reason — that it wants this book and not that in the public library.
PEOPLE have, by law, the right to equal access to any public facility, including libraries. But a book is not a person.
And even though people are free to access a public facility, that public facility can and should set standards of appearance and behavior required of the public who use it — as long as those standards apply fairly to all.
How much more of a right and duty is it for a public library to set standards as to which books are found in it.
Should a public library keep a book full of pornographic doddles by anonymous patrons in the margins and on black pages? Or a book that explains in detail how to make an improvised explosive device from materials under the kitchen sink? Or a book that encourages man-boy love by NAMBLA? As perverse as those subjects are, why force a public library to stock them on the shelves? Does a community have any right to set standards for itself?

A couple of years ago I attended a Christmas service at a blue-state UCC church (with liberal family members). I was shocked with the liberties they took to modify the Word of God and long-standing Christmas hymns.
In my opinion it appears that the modern-day UCC church doesn’t care about Biblical Truth, but rather they care about putting a “Christian fascade” on their political and social agenda.
It’s no surprise that “Rev.” Jeremiah Wright is allowed to remain a UCC “pastor”.
I’m not saying that all UCC congregations and pastors are evil. I am saying that the ones who are are allowed to remain and reflect very negatively on the rest of the denomination.
I mean, really, how can a “Reverend” boldly say, “No, no, no, it’s not God Bless America, but God D@mn America!” and still remain a “Pastor”?!?!?!
digshot, what the hell are you talking about. sarah didn’t ban a book, or ask anyone to ban a book. she asked the librarian is she would ban books. if the librarian had said yes, she should have been fired, but she answered no and case closed, she kept her job. what dunkin donuts nonsense have you been fed. quit reading the daily kos, it’s written by a bunch of comic book reading 19 year olds who still rely on their moms to wash their faces after eating.
The left considers its immediate political/social rivals (Republicans, hawkish liberals, conservatives, religious people, traditionalists, libertarians) its only enemies. This is why they go bonkers over a stupid internet rumor about Sarah Palin allegedly banning books but have nothing to say about Fidel Castro tossing people in the klink for running illegal libraries in Cuba. In fact the leftist American Librarian Association shrugged its shoulders at Castro’s crackdown a few years ago. They don’t care, Castro is no threat to them politcal or social issues. In fact, they kinda like Fidelcito.
There’s also an awful lot of projection of the left’s prejudices on people like Palin. The assumption is a devout evangelical whose values and lifestyle are obviously different from that of the urban/coastal crowd is going to be a book-bannin’, Bible-thumpin’ theocrat who will stop at nothing to shove her Christer philosophy down their throats. They have no idea what conservatives really believe and why.
Hey, thanks les! I had no idea some of those “B-listers” were also Republicans. Cool ;).

Denzel Washington,Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, Vince Vaughn, Adam Sandler, Kelsey Grammer, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Chuck Norris, Jon Cryer (starring uber popular tv show “Two and a Half Men”) Emily Procter ( CSI Miami) Tom Selleck
Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ahhhhnold , Robert Downey Jr, James Woods, Kurt Russell, Chuck Norris, Heather Locklear ( who can greenlight ANY tv series) Jessica Simpson, Shannon Doherty Vincent Gallo
The most successful film/tv producer in Hollywood today: Jerry Bruckheimer.
Add to that list Joel Surnow (”24)
A LONG list of A level Sports Celebs including Tiger Woods.
And Andrew Breitbart and Tom Clancy.
Anything Tom writes is greenlit in Hollywood.
Chevy Chase just made my lists of banned movies on my tv set,(It’s mine so I can choose what I want to watch)joining Matt and many others. Some of my friends have chastized me for my stand against them, stating “their right to freedom of speech and expression.” I asked them where’s my rights to the same freedom of speech. Silence.
Hi RedPill:
In truth -Hollywood does allow A List Celebrities as evidenced by the A list I provided.
While I agree some people are afraid to admit their Republicans - those that rake in big bucks, and can greenlight a movie or tv show have nothing to worry about.
Hollywood’s god is the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR.
If you can bring in Box Office bucks
and/or a large tv audience - no one cares if your Republican or not as Jerry Bruckheimer can attest.

Since Obama claims to be a Christian, and mentioned Harry S. Truman while speaking in Truman’s hometown of Independence, Missouri, why didn’t Obama mention this Truman quote?

I stopped listening to these goobers a long time ago. It’s hard to take seriously somebody who ‘pretends’ for a living.
There is a difference between a boycott and a ban. The consumer has the choice in a boycott. They are completely different things.

Banning books on perversion is not censorship.

Huntress,
Thank you for your “insider” insight.
That works for actors/actresses who have already established themselves, but what do you think about conservatives who are just starting out?
It would seem to me that “outing” yourself as a Republican before you “rake in big bucks, and can greenlight a movie or tv show” would result in the rest of the Hollywood community ensuring that you never reach that level. True or false?
Has Gary Sinise always been open abou this faith and political views? Or, did he have to keep them to himself until he first became successful in Hollywood?
WOW….. excellent!
Try outing yourself as a college professor. You learn very quickly to publish your papers with selective omissions if you wish to keep your job.
Wow. I’m impressed.
Pretty much sums up the leftest party’s hypocrisy–and in their own words. “Censorship for me, not for thee”. Fools.
Any PROFESSIONAL who feels compelled to soap box their choice of: a) Deity to worship; b) church affiliation; c) reproductive and birth control decisions; d) preferred sources of and preferred destinations for sexual penetration and stimulation; e) where to shop and what to buy while shopping etc etc ….. is a complete boob to start with.
The secular-biased media turns all of these public admissions into “sins” if these do not conform to the Marxist based religion of “The People”.
That includes what we read.
The secular-based media is a Puritan style arbiter of morality, which then influences Pin Headed politicos like Pelosi Galore and her brain-in-a-bucket cohort in Congress to attempt more Nanny State laws.
Whenever I have revealed PRIVATE preferences in a PROFESSIONAL setting it has consistently resulted in Democrats trying to a) convert me to Dhimmi-style submission to their talking points; b) outright character assasination up the organizational food chain; or c) being supervised OUT of the organization.
It aint about banning- it is about thought control.
Bear1909 out
I’m still waiting for the “I’ll move if Bush wins” crowd to ACTUALLY leave! Since they didn’t leave, why should we believe anything else they say?
Not to mention what the leftards tried to do to Jerome Corsi’s book, and to David Freddoso (whose book was much better.)
How about how hard it was to get Liberal Fascism in book stores when it came out?
From early on
Try putting a Bible and a Koran in a library. Which one do y’all think the libs will try to ban?
Unless, of course, she inquired at the behest of her constituents, in which case it would be NO DIFFERENT.
It’s likely that’s exactly what happened.
Except that what you say happened in Alaska and the so-called “book ban”..never happened…nor did the librarian get fired, nor did the Governor have any consideration of firing or banning. This has all been debunked by all sorts of fact checkers…ie..one called Factcheck.org. But when you are a leftie hatemonger…truth be damned…hate and lies are order of the day. Great platform….lie, cheat, steal…the ends justify the means…
Dennis Prager is right, the “Gibson Doctrine” is being applied by all Leftists:
Charlie Gibson showed far greater hostility toward the Republican vice-presidential candidate than Dan Rather did in his interview with Saddam Hussein or Mike Wallace did in his interview with Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
We might call it the media’s Gibson Doctrine: Confront Republicans, act obsequious toward tyrants.
Which Dennis Prager reminds him of another Talmudic dictum: “Those who are merciful to the cruel will be cruel to the merciful.”
Wow. That was a good article. My college library had a selection if books for black history month in a special display. They got mad when I pointed out it was only lib books and books about conservative blacks were MIA.
Oh, Harvey Milk was okay. All he did while in office was prevent legalized discrimination against gay people in the workplace (which included defeating the Briggs Initiative, which Ronald Reagan didn’t agree with, either) and make people pick up their dog’s poop.
Your next assignment is to define “religious bigot”.
Hey, I saw Footloose, so I KNOW the “Christian conservative bogeymen” must be real!!!
Can’t say much for Milk’s, ahem, choice of associates.
Actually, I find it fun to watch these nutjobs shake in their shoes at every turn, knowing both that they have already lost and that they were full of $h!+ from the beginning.
THAT’s entertainment!

They do this on college campuses as well. Any publication they deem unholy, they steal or destroy. Leftists are the worst hypocrites.
Sarah has them running scared. Hillary will miss an opportunity to appear with Sarah at the UN protest. No comment from BO and Biden. What will Hillary do when Sarah is President of the Senate? Run away again? It takes a real woman to stand up to the third world thugs!
Can anyone explain this:
“Less than a week after the Alaska State Senate Judiciary Committee voted to issue subpoenas in the investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin, those state employees who were ordered to testify won’t be honoring the subpoenas”
Don’t these people respect the law?
Why wouldn’t a public servant want to testify?
What are they hiding?
Personally I thought I was clarifying the issue by pointing out an improper (in my opinion) analogy. Moreover, I thought there would be more sympathy for PRIVATE businesses selling what they choose and PRIVATE citizens speaking out in protest. Maybe this is the wrong place for a libertarian.
Even if you find the analogy apt, weren’t you a little bothered by “[a]nd even if she did inquire about the [book banning] process, so what?”
So what? SO WHAT? Should politicians really be making those decisions?
Did I ever say she banned any books?
And she did try to fire the librarian, but the residents of Wasilla demanded she didn’t. If you want to pretend like she didn’t even consider or attempt to fire her and invoke FactCheck.org, well I’d really like to see that link.
Digshot, you must post links that support your positions before demanding others refute you. You must dig, and then shoot.
One can rest assured that when the first comment in the “Comments” section is a quote by Ted Nugent, rational political discourse is sure to follow.

Although I’m not a librarian, my day job is working for the Los Angeles Public Library. The leftist bias is palpable, and while they deny deny deny there is any censorship (e.g. they have no problem with allowing anyone to download porn), several librarians have admitted to me that they refuse to stock books they personally disagree with on the basis that they have no “literary merit”. I guess those books encouraging teenage witchcraft rank up there with Cicero. “High Times” is up there with “Newsweek”…in the young adult section to boot.
The system will stock conservative bestsellers because they can’t ignore them, and believe it or not, even in cesspool LA there’s about a 50/50 split in conservative/liberal patronage. One librarian remarked he was glad that we carry conservative tomes because the authors only get paid once “for that cr*p”.
Worse still is the blatant anti-white racism in promotions and hiring. Non-whites can and are promoted and hired anywhere within the system, but for example if a white person wanted a Senior Librarian job in a predominantly black community, forget it - “not a good fit”.
As you suggest ExcessiveModerate, The libraries ban books already. There are 172,000 book titles published a year in the US. Even in a big library system maybe 90% of those titles are BANNED and BURNED — that is, to use real world speak rather than liberal incendiary wackyness — the titles are not part of the books purchased that year.
Libraries only have so much money and so much shelf space. They can only buy a FEW of the titles available.
And it is likely that the titles bought — the 10% or so that make it into a modern public library are heavily weighed to the PC side.
