This man is a joke. He doesn’t really know what it’s like to choke on local and state taxes. I bet he thinks paying assinine taxes like the personal property tax in VA, on stuff like vehicles that many of us are already paying car payments on is “patriotic.” It’s just one smack after another.

I’m just freaking tired of it. You get smacked by not only the federal government, but the state and local ones as well. We’re paying property taxes for schools that don’t work and they want more!!!

When are Dems gonna get it? Middle class people are getting hit from all sides. Just because you say you’re not going to “raise taxes” on the middle class doesn’t mean that businesses won’t cut jobs when they get hammered with new taxes.

I honestly don’t get the logic. I’m also hearing from liberals on a couple of different blogs that the government can cut the military as much as 75% and no big deal. We’ll be okay.

Where do these Dems get their economic sense?

Those reporting adjusted gross income of more than $250,000 to the IRS are projected to make up 2 percent of households next year, when the new president will take office. Those folks will earn 24.1 percent of all income, and pay 43.6 percent of all personal federal income taxes, the Tax Policy Center figures. Under Obama, they might pay even more.

The candidates haven’t said exactly how a $250,000 limit would be applied. But often these figures are meant only for couples filing jointly, and the limit is half that for singles filing alone.

Joint returns with more than $250,000 adjusted gross income and single returns with more than $125,000 adjusted gross income together are estimated to make up 3.1 percent of households next year. That group is projected to earn 27 percent of all personal income and pay 47.9 percent of all personal federal income taxes in 2009, according to the TPC’s calculations.

So, the people already burdened with paying the most taxes needs to be burdened with MORE. Seems this tax year, they will pay almost 50% of income tax.

Tax the rich and give to the poor. No wonder Dimocraps are popular. Problem is, they kill business and put more people on the gooberment teet – not unlike lgm who is already sucking from it.

Flat rate tax is the only fair tax but would put the IRS goons out of business so it will NEVER happen.

Ever since I first became aware of Joe Biden from Delaware (a long time ago) my visceral reaction has always been, “Oh Jeez, what does this guy want now.”

Having recently learned about Biden’s father’s “misfortune” of riches (turning his family’s inherited fortune into a proverbial shoestring)when Joe was only eight years old…

    Does this help?

As I listened to this insistence on poverty and lack of formal education as the qualifications for admission to this Party, I began to feel uneasy, and I turned to Alexander Trachtenberg, one of the thirteen on the committee.

“I don’t think I belong here,” I said. “It is true that my father and mother worked hard, but my father became a successful businessman and we owned a house and I went to college.”

Trachtenberg, himself a well-educated man, caught the irony in my statement. He stroked his walrus mustache and said reassuringly: “Don’t worry about that. Remember Stalin studied to be a priest and Lenin came from a well-to-do family and studied to be a lawyer. You must be a proletarian or identify yourself with the proletariat. That’s all.”

As the comrades continued to come before the examining committee the thought came to me that there was not one real worker among them. Foster, though he affected the khaki shirt of a workman, hadn’t done a stroke of work in a long time. He had been sitting in little rooms planning revolutions and conniving for power for twenty-five years. Thompson and Gil Green had graduated from school right into the Young Communist League. Thompson had gone to Spain as a commissar of the Lincoln Brigade and when he returned he worked for the Party, and Gil became a Party functionary at an early age.

That was the pattern of these American revolutionaries, and I felt as I looked at them that they really could know little about the ordinary worker.

So they want to tax the rich more. The rich are laughing. If Warren Buffet thinks that he’s not paying enough taxes, he should write a check! He doesn’t have an income to tax. When the rich have holding companies, trust funds, expense accounts, off shore bank accounts, etc, exactly how are these people going to be taxed more? Is Obama or Biden going to expain that to the American public? Maybe Hollywood should cough up more money to help the poor and put their money where their mouth is. Or just put their money in their mouths and shut up.

P.S. 3.1% of 305 million people (that includes all children who do not make an incomce) is still 9.5 million people. Remove 100 million for children and you still get 6.4 million people. Divide it by two for joint income and that leaves 3.2 million.

I see what you mean by “small swath”.

IDIOT, I am keeping the math simple for you so you get the idea of small.

You know who likes to use the tax system as a weapon against his enemies?

The threat of prosecution for tax fraud is the Kremlin’s weapon of choice against anyone who dares to challenge its hegemony.

Oh, please!!!! There is not a single instance of any candidate who can change the tax system. Ron Paul wants to fix it too. Do you really think the IRS will go away. That is a beast that is huge and devours anything in its path. It is too big to go away.

While Barack Obama tries to call John McCain a “liar” for saying Obama will raise taxes on a wide swath of Americans,

Obama’s plan calls for increasing taxes on a narrow “swath” of Americans, those that make more than $200,000/year. This is not the middle class by any definition of “middle”.

Comments in above posts noted, do you think all of his ambitious plans will let it stay that way? Tell you what, if you are wrong, will you pay the difference in my taxes?

America’s economic woes have nothing to do with taxes.

Economists including Alan Greenspan disagree. Our huge budget deficits depress the dollar and put Uncle Sam in competition with the private sector in borrowing.

Maybe we should control spending rather than increasing taxes.

You (insult omitted) if you think that it is a narrow swath that make over $200k/year.

Check out the chart and say that.

Where does it indicate the percentage of the total taxes paid by income category? I think that would be far more revealing to you.
