College credit-for-Obama students scheme killed

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 22, 2008 09:10 PM

This weekend, I noted aggressive attempts by Team Obama to sign up college students and exploit lax residency rules in battleground Virginia. And last week, I blogged the latest ACORN attempts to infiltrate campuses.

The quest to capture the youth vote continues — by an overzealous college official who attempted to offer academic credits to students who canvass for Obama:

University of Massachusetts officials on Monday quashed efforts by an Amherst campus chaplain to offer two college credits to any student willing to campaign in New Hampshire this fall for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Chaplain Kent Higgins told students in a Sept. 18 e-mail, “If you’re scared about the prospects for this election, you’re not alone. The most important way to make a difference in the outcome is to activate yourself. It would be just fine with (Republican candidate John) McCain if Obama supporters just think about helping, then sleep in and stay home between now and Election Day.”

Higgins added that an unnamed “sponsor” in the university’s history department would offer a two-credit independent study for students willing to canvass—identify supporters—or volunteer on behalf of the Democratic nominee.

University officials disavowed the effort after inquiries Monday by The Associated Press. They said it could run afoul of state ethics laws banning on-the-job political activity, as well as university policy.

“We do not engage in or sponsor partisan political activity,” said Audrey Alstadt, chairwoman of the history department. “We certainly do not give academic credit for participation in partisan politics.”

“We do engage in and sponsor only Democrat Party political activity,” said Audrey Alstadt, chairwoman of the history department. “Duh, our Faculty certainly does give academic credit for participation in Democrat Party politics. As soon as the media heat is off, of course . . .”

The only reason they said anything, I think, was because it was so blatant. If there was no light shone on this, it might have been business as usual.

What I thought was interesting was that this was a chaplain. Granted, I don’t know to which faith Kent Higgins is clergy (or if he is), but I would wonder about his sense of ethics in offering the credits for what is clearly not collegiate work.

I worked at UMASS Amherst for several years, and the whole Five Colleges (UMASS, Amherst, Hamshire, Smith and Mt. Holyoke colleges) area is a liberal utopia (translation: rat’s nest). It is the biggest reeducation camp in Massachusetts. And that is saying a lot.

This is the (former) home of Rene Gonzalez, the grad student who wrote in the UMass-Amherst Daily Collegian that NFL player and Army Ranger Pat Tillman was “a `GI Joe’ guy who got what was coming to him.” Gonzalez’s column condemned the US invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, and portrayed Tillman as a dupe, “probably acting out his nationalist-patriotic fantasies forged in years of exposure to Clint Eastwood and Rambo movies.” In his own neighborhood in Puerto Rico, according to Gonzalez, Tillman would not have been considered a hero, but a “pendejo,” or idiot.

(I had the experience of having long email conversations with Gonzalez before he became infamous, and he was as brainwashed and unrepentant as any liberal college student could be. Our conversations were polite though.

It is also home to one physics Professor Jennie Traschen, who had the incredibly bad timing and taste to be condemning the public display of American flags in Amherst on Sept 10, 2001. She stated at a public meeting on the display of flags “”What the flag is, is a symbol of terrorism and death and fear and destruction and oppression.”

Just to give you an idea of the liberal mindset in what I call “Berkeley East,” some residents in this liberal community did not like the flags because it made the Town “look too American.”

I witnessed meetings for socialists and communists on campus, while talks by Ann Coulter and others were widely protested.

I couldn’t wait to wipe the dirt of that place off my feet.

Marxism is bogus economic theory based on the labor theory of value and it’s not provable that the capitalist absorbs surplus value from the proletariat. What Obama will do is destroy what is America’s sovereignty and he’s doing it quite nicely with his neo-Hegelian “dialectal materialism.”

Sorry, this is a bit OT (or maybe not) but I just HAD to bring it to your guy’s attention.

My teenager wanted to go to the bookstore today in order to get something new to read. I am always up for a trip like that and was needing to pick up some new reading material myself, so we headed to Barnes and Noble (ended up with Steve Martin’s Auto-Bio and the new “Get Fuzzy” collection) when I saw something that made me damn near puke all over the table full of books.

It was a Barack Obama CHILDREN’S BOOK!! Not only that, but apparently they had sold a few, as there was only one left on the table. It was the table carrying all the Current Politics books. (Obama books had McCain/Palin books beat 3-1 in number)

I was both outraged and close to hysterical laughter at the same time. The insides had him portrayed as some Christ-like saviour, complete with rainbows and sunbeams surrounding him and a “glow” around his visage.

This is where they are starting this myth about him.

This is bringing the whole argument that I was making concerning the SA/Hitlerization of him full circle. Start the indoctrination with the children, and it will be so much easier when they become voting age.

    Take a look

And here is the synopsis so you can see that I am NOT exaggerating:

    Synopsis

Ever since Barack Obama was young, Hope has lived inside him. From the beaches of Hawaii to the streets of Chicago, from the jungles of Indonesia to the plains of Kenya, he has held on to Hope. Even as a boy, Barack knew he wasn’t quite like anybody else, but through his journeys he found the ability to listen to Hope and become what he was meant to be: a bridge to bring people together.

This is the moving story of an exceptional man, as told by Nikki Grimes and illustrated by Bryan Collier, both winners of the Coretta Scott King Award. Barack Obama has motivated Americans to believe with him, to believe that every one of us has the power to change ourselves and change our world.
    Publishers Weekly

“One day Hope stopped by for a visit,” begins this biography, narrowly framed as an exchange between an African-American mother and her son. They sit together on a “frayed” sofa in a “tenement” as she tells him who “Braco-what?” is and why he is so special; at the end she blinks back tears when he tells her that he, too, wants to be president when he grows up. (Hope later talks to Barack Obama, as does God.) Grimes (Bronx Masquerade) approaches her themes with a heavy hand, starting with her treatment of race as she describes “his mama, white as whipped cream,/ his daddy, black as ink” (she gets at awe similarly: “Barry’s mom married/ a man named Lolo/ and-Oh! The wonderland/ he took Barry to: Indonesia”). Collier uses watercolor and collage, a choice he explains as a metaphor for the way Obama has “piece[d] life’s issues together to create a courageous vision for the world.” There is much to find in each composition (artfully placed photo images, batik patterns, etc.), but the illustrations often feel static and a few (like the one in which a single tear streams momentously down Obama’s cheek), stagy. Ages 5-10. (Aug.)

Story time: I was a freshman at Smith in 2004-2005, and when Bush won the election, my film professor came into class and said, “Can I assume we all feel the same way about this?”

    “No,” I said.

She looked right at me and then proceeded to spend the whole rest of the class - over an hour - talking about how the country was going to get so much worse now that Bush had a second term. She made the whole class listen to some speech Kerry was giving on the radio. On that day in class we were supposed to be discussing some movie we’d watched previously, and seeing as we did nothing class-related that day, we never got around to watching one of the movies we were supposed to have watched.

Prior to that I’d thought I might minor in film, but she was pretty much the film professor, and I knew I could never make myself suffer through another course with her. It was okay, as I ended up double-majoring in English and history instead, but I wish I could have taken another film class with someone else.

Another apology on behalf of the 42 people in Massachusetts that aren’t liberal wackjobs.

This doesn’t surprise me at all, as I know the area well. Most of the stop signs have Bush or war spraypainted after the word stop. I had a rear window cracked right over my Bush/Cheney04 sticker while out visiting a friend. The rusted out Volvos and Subarus with Gore/Edwards stickers are everywhere. And the smell of patchouli is heavy in the air.

Damn shame too, because it’s a beautiful area, especially this time of year.

And let me echo the others here Jose, with a big thank you and a hearty welcome home to your bro!

A children’s book? Are you kidding me? Obummer is so shrouded in mystery that nobody really knows his true story. I guess they need children’s authors to pen books to caste this guy as some mythic figure instead of the overly flawed, corrupt human being he actually is.

Obummer really is the Oprah of politics. She’s an overrated talk show host and he’s a typical politician. Americans just suck up this tripe like it’s gold dust. It really makes you question the mentality of voters in the electorate that they could so easily fall for it. I can understand why deluded young people fall for it, and the vested self-interest of the black community, but a majority of adults just know better.

Does anybody really KNOW Obmmer? Or do they think they know? I wonder what their reaction will be when this guy finally plummets to earth and falls off his pedestal. I can’t wait for that day.

BTW, my youngest daughter(who’s in Middle school) told me about a girl who wore a shirt last Friday that said: Imagine having B.O. for four years! (The O was a mask) NOBAMA.

She was wearing the shirt at the end of the day, so I don’t think she was sent home or disciplined(to my knowledge). There is hope afterall.
