Obama initiates Car Wars

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 23, 2008 11:58 AM

Barack Obama wants to talk about the Issues That Matter.

Issues like John McCain’s inability to send e-mail.

And issues like…the McCain family’s cars:

Democrat Barack Obama’s campaign hit Republican John McCain today over his family’s ownership of foreign cars, saying it would air a TV ad in Michigan highlighting McCain’s statements on buying American.

But the ad, which accuses McCain of misleading Michigan voters by saying he’s bought American vehicles “literally all my life,” doesn’t say that of the 13 vehicles owned by the McCain family, only one is registered to McCain himself – a 2004 Cadillac CTS built in Lansing.

The 12 other vehicles include a 2005 Volkswagen convertible, a 2001 Honda sedan, a 2007 Ford half-ton pickup and three Gem neighborhood electric vehicles – essentially road-worthy golf carts built by a Chrysler subsidiary.

All part of Obama’s laughable “Buy American” posturing.

The Democrats will spread the word about this Issue That Matters with two events in Michigan today to “highlight the McCain’s family vehicles, as well as events in Missouri and Wisconsin.”

Just a reminder of what Obama was driving before he was hoisted by his enviro-sanctimonious petard. From May 2008:

There he goes again. Barack Obama is lambasting Detroit’s Big 3 automakers again for manufacturing SUVs. He attacked the car companies over the weekend for making the “mistake” of investing in SUVs and large trucks instead of producing more fuel-efficient vehicles. Obama also bragged about his Big 3- bashing speech a year ago that delivered “the kind of truth-telling we need from the next president.”

A truth-telling reminder of the gas-guzzling car Obama himself was driving before eco-hypocrisy caught up with him:

Chrysler 300C
Output: 340 hp, 390 lb-ft
EPA fuel economy, city/highway: 17/25 (17/24 AWD)

His fancy wheels got less than the standard 27 mpg that he now whines is too low.

After his do-as-i-say-ism was exposed, he traded in his beast for a Ford Escape Hybrid.

But on the campaign trail, to this day, it’s still the bigger the better.

Obama’s eco-hypocrisy emission standard: High.

    Excellent point.

Remember the 1992 election, which also involved “buy American” trade sentiment? There was a stink made about a company that bought earth-moving equipment from Kubota instead of Caterpillar, until it was pointed out that the Kubota products were made in the USA and the Caterpillar products were built overseas.

In a global economy, “Buy American” is an argument that often swallows its own tail — especially these days, when it seems that all we make in America is Americans – and we import a lot of them, too.

Oh, good grief. Now lgm is a doctor!

In how many disciplines are you totally illiterate? I have nerve damage in my right hand. One of the oddest things is that I can type and mouse all day but if I pick up a pencil or pen my hand is completely cramped up after writing two or three lines of text.

Isn’t it just remotely possible that John McCain’s fingers, hands and arms are damaged in a different way than mine? Or is there only one kind of disability?

Please stop demonstrating your incredible breadth of ignorance. I am beginning to suspect you are algore….

This is really stupid. I mean c’mon! I love American cars (mostly classic ones), but if I had the money that Barry O or the McCains have I probably would buy an Aston Martin DB9.

That is simply the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen, and it packs a mean 6.0 liter V-12.

Does that mean I’m not a real American or something? No. It means I love great cars. Period.

If I could afford the Aston, then I could afford a few cars and trucks, most of which would be American made.

When it comes to everyday utility type vehicles, I’m not much on the Japanese cars. Mostly a style thing.

However, I have some land to take care of that I inherited from my grandmother. My diesel powered 4-wheel drive mowing tractor with a 6ft. wide deck is not a John Deere, but a Kubota, made in Japan. I just happen to like it better than a similar Deere. Different hydrostatic drive pedal arrangement, more user friendly. Totally practical.

    I still love America plenty.

Let’s get Obama on more substantive things, like taxes, or Marxist community organizing corruption, shall we please?

    Thank me!

Hmmmm… according to Regulus, my Kubota tractor may have in fact been built here in the USA after all. It is a Japanese brand though. See this even more pointless of a conversation now!

McCain ads showed Obama’s million dollar home. Well, McCain is far wealthier than Obama, his home costs far more (homes cost far more), and so on.

Cindy McCain is far wealthier. John is a humble public servant and retired Navy pilot.

And Obama’s home DO cost less… because Obama got that wicked cool Deal from Rezko, his friend and felon.

McCain is out of touch. He doesn’t know the price of gas because he never pumps his own.

Ahh…. you are confusing John McCain with Nancy Pelosi. A common error among liberals because they can’t accept that a Jackass like Pelosi is their Queen.

It’s fitting that the mud McCain threw at Obama is hitting McCain in the face. Do you have a problem with that?

Hehe… now it sounds like you’re talking in your sleep… you’re not making any sense.

    Allow me to help you.

Obama lies whenever he opens his mouth.

If anyone cares, the photos and these stats are why I love the Aston Martin:

Engine- 6.0 liter aluminum V-12, 4 valves per cylinder, DOHC

    Power- 470hp @6000rpm

    0-60mph- 4.6 seconds

    Torque- 443 lb-ft

    Top Speed- 190mph

That is one sweet ride. All body panels are aluminum, also. Made in UK.

originally FORD meant Fix Or Repair Daily …

Well, I got that special acronym from a couple of guys (including my husband) in the military. One of our military friends, who had just purchased a Ford Explorer, took it on a drive with his wife and family and the thing just shut down. Needless to say he was very peeved.

I’m sure everybody has their favorite acronym for Ford. ;-)
