Geez, I thought McCain was off to a bad start this week.
Then along came the Gaffe Twins again.
Joe Biden’s trashing his campaign’s moronic e-mail attack ad: “Terrible.”
Barack Obama’s trashing Joe Biden’s initial refusal to back the AIG bailout: He “should have waited.”

Looks like Joe Biden, in his interview with Katie Couric, was copying off the wrong classmate’s exam again. He said (video here):
“When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed. He said, ‘look, here’s what happened.’”
My recollection is that the stock market crash was in 1929. Two problems here: Television did not even exist in 1929, and FDR was elected in 1932, so he wasn’t even the leader at the time of the crash. When Joe was in history class, was he cheating by looking over the class dunce’s shoulder, or does he just make this stuff up? Of course, TV celebrity Katie Couric also didn’t note that Biden’s statement was doubly incorrect. Her goal was a softball puff piece.”

When the market crashed in”29″ the reason it was so severe is that it lasted for 10 years. The regulations imposed by the government slowed the recovery. And now we see the same thing happening. Let’s just through tax payer dollars at it. That will fix it.

Katie Couric has no knowledge of history. She would not know that Hoover was president in 1929, nor would she know that the stock market crashed in 1929, nor would she know that television was not around in 1929, at least people didn’t have it in their homes. And add to this the fact that Katie Couric is a Democrat with a capital D. Her family is a prominent Democrat family in Virginia. Her sister, who was a wonderful person, ran for Lt. Governor on the Democrat side in Virginia. She was very moderate in her views for a Democrat and would have made a good Lt. Governor. But Katie should fess up that she is indeed a Democrat.
Oh, and villify those evil rich and Republicans too. Don’t forget that. Right outta the Dem playbook.

This is off topic, but the quote that I remember from the 1929 stock market crash came from none other than the Sultan of Swat (Babe Ruth). Not long after the crash, a reporter asked Babe Ruth if he felt guilty that he made more money that year than President Hoover. Well, it is something they both seem to be prolific at!
McCain and Palin disagree about ANWAR publicly. The President sets the policy agenda. The Veep has to fall in line, but I would respect a veep who disagrees from time to time. Now if they are on different pages about major issues like going to war, or overall economic philosophy, I would be worried. I have no problem with Biden disagreeing with the “email ad” either. Although, I found nothing wrong with the ad, it was a little silly. I don’t want my candidate to share a brain. I do want them to agree with general beliefs concerning the direction of the country.
In fact television did exist in 1929, but it was an experimental, highly localized technology. There is a story that TV actors of the time complained about the heavy make-up they had to wear to be discerned on the early BW screens. Television as a network, nationwide technology did not come into being until a generation later.
To most of Obama/Biden’s followers, of course, television has been around since the Big Bang. History began with the iPod, and the pyramids were built during the Nixon administration. So none of this will affect the popularity of the double-gaffe twins. And the polls, now shifting back to Obama, are reflecting that unhappy fact.

As MsCheryl sez, it’s not wise to conduct spats in public. The funny thing here is how do you recover from a gaffe that involves not knowing FDR used radio (e.g. his “fireside chats”), when the stcok market crashed (that’s basic history) and who was President when it did crash?
By way of some history, FDR is credited as being the first President to be seen on TV. It was at the NY World’s Fair ten years later in 1939, thoogh. Interestingly enough, Herbert Hoover was on TV before him in 1927, the image being transmitted by cable, but Hoover was just Secretary of Commerce at the time. That would have had to be using “mechanical” TV. Electronic TV didn’t come along until the following year. Interesting to me at least – I’m a fan of an old electronics stuff.
Saw clips of Bubba Clinton on the View yesterday and when asked who was going to win, he said Obama. I don’t think his ego would be able to withstand being wrong, so I guess ACORN must have enough votes to pull it off.

The Federal Radio Commission issued the first Television station license in 1928.
However, in 1936, there were only about 200 television sets in use throughout the world.
His point that FDR did not do any TV addresses during his presidency is correct, though.

That being said how can they change running mates now and have a valid election with ballots already being sent and returned?
Would that kind of change invalidate the current ballets and force them to print/send out a new one. And what would happen if they couldn’t print and send new ballots out in time for them to be returned by election day? Would the old ballots count?
Also if they did this could this open the chance of some ballots that were supposed to be thrown out, not thrown out and counted. What would happen if they changed the order on the new ballots and placed the one party where the other was on the first ballot that the old ballots are counted but votes for one party get miss counted for another????
A change now could open things up for a lot of potential voter fraud/ballot manipulation.

As for McCain, his stands on Amnesty and AGW taxes are in alignment with Hillary and the ChiComs. I believe that the only reason McCain picked Palin is because Huckabee and his delegates from multiple states were ready to walk out of the convention if McCain picked a pro-choice VP.

John McCain did a lot of questionable things to get the Republican Nomination. For those who want more explanation of what I mean, search my past posts on my blog. “Values Voters” are America’s largest voting block, and after refusing to attend “Values Voters” Debates twice, McCain finally conceded the VP slot when it became clear that not doing so could have cost him the Republican nomination. That’s behind us now, and McCain made a wise choice to foresake his original VP choice and go with a VP that has electrified both fiscal and social conservatives.
John “Agent of Intolerance” McCain gets my vote because Sarah! gives me hope that things actually can change in Washington, D.C.
