Reid tries to sneak oil shale ban back into legislation
Sen. Jim DeMint’s office reports just now that Harry Reid is trying to sneak the oil shale ban — backed by House Democrats — back into legislation under cover of the bailout frenzy.
We’ve just been alerted that despite House Democrats relenting on extending bans on offshore drilling and oil shale in the continuing resolution (CR) appropriations bill, Democrat Senate Leader Harry Reid has decided to sneak an extension of the oil shale ban through as Congress fights over the financial bailout. Oil shale in America’s West is estimated to hold be between 800 billion and 2 trillion barrels of oil — that is more than three times the proven oil reserves in Saudi Arabia alone.
Here is the text of Reid’s proposed new ban on oil shale, that he is trying to add as an amendment to the CR or move seperately as a “stimulus” package, or we should say an anti-stimulus package if this is included.
Sec 1602 continues ban on oil shale. The language follows:
SEC. 1602. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, including section 152 of division A of H.R. 2638 (110th Congress), the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act, 2009, the terms and conditions contained in section 433 of division F of Public Law 110–161 shall remain in effect for the 19 fiscal year ending September 30, 2009.
It would be an insult to all Americans if Senate Democrats worked to bailout Wall Street while damaging our future prosperity by banning development of vast energy reserves in oil shale.

“Only in Harry Reid’s Washington could a ban on energy production and the thousands of manufacturing jobs it would create be considered an ‘economic stimulus.’
“Somebody needs to ask Harry Reid how blocking private companies from creating good jobs and lowering the cost of energy for millions of American families will do anything to get our economy back on track. No wonder Congressional approval levels are at historic lows and we find ourselves in this economic situation.
“Every Senator who truly cares about an economic recovery should tell Harry Reid to remove this cynical provision from his so-called ‘economic stimulus’ bill immediately, and if he refuses to do so, they should vote against this bill.”

This IS what they’re arguing about. The Dems have been trying to load this thing up from the first moment it came out.
They want another $300 BILLION stimulus package, unlimited homeowners mortgage bailout(yes, the same people that caused this mess by not paying for the loans they agreed to pay). You could see even a driveway for Biden, a coffee shop for the capitol, you name it they’re trying to stick it in.
This year they have already added at least 1900 of these to other ‘real’ bills in congress.
This is what they do.
I got a glimpse of it watch Barney Frank on Lou Dobbs say “When we CONTROL the government in a few month.” while ranting about respect. We will be the new Mexico.
You see, we won’t be suffering from all that nasty polution which is killing us. Plus we will have lots more time to tend to our organic gardens.

Just called my Senator–Elizabeth Dole. I was told by her office that Reid’s plan to extend the oil shale ban is only a “rumor.” Hmmm. The good thing is that the Senator’s phone lines have been clogged for the past three days with complaints about the bailout. Sooo… Keep those phone calls coming!

I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.
Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.
To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00.
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.
Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife has $595,000.00.
What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college – it’ll be there
Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car – create jobs
Invest in the market – capital drives growth
Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else
Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do it…instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( “vote buy” ) economic incentive that is being proposed

As for AIG – liquidate it.
Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.

There are 1.5 billion barrels in shale. Shell has the technology to extract it at $30 per barrel. According to an article at AmericanThinker(link below)the U.S and Canada would not have to import ANY oil in a very short time.Reid and his pathetic gang are idiots.
