Debate video: Obama can’t remember the soldier’s name on his bracelet

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 26, 2008 11:44 PM

I mentioned this in my liveblog and wrap-up posts: Barack Obama’s cringe-inducing “Me, too” moment with his troop bracelet –given to him by the mother of a soldier whose name he can’t remember without having to look down and read it. The name of the soldier is Ryan David Jopek.

Here’s the video:

Remember how much of an uproar the MSM made of George H.W. Bush looking at his watch during the 1992 debate with Clinton (also moderated by Jim Lehrer, by the way)?

Gestures matter.

I can’t believe this would end any other way than a McCain/Palin landslide…please tell me America still knows what is right.

    All of this don’t matter.

obama will be the president even if he had said - I got a bracelet too, it is uh from the mother of Osama BL.

Get over it, none of this is gonna matter. Your only hope is to vote the right thinking candidates in House and Senate.

I believe the MSM would say this was a “nuanced” answer - not that Obama is a pretentious ass.

Each of them had high and low points in the debate. When he was doing what I suspect were rehearsed bits, O’B came across as a thoughtful person who might with more experience make a good leader. However, John showed that he has not only talked the talk, but walked the walk already. He’s ready to lead right now.

How damned lame is that??? Can’t remember the name of the Soldier on his wrist, who lost his life defending Obama’s freedom. That bracelet was only a prop for him!

Obama has absolutely zero respect or understanding of the military. I would not be surprised to see a mutiny if that clown is elected.

Am I the only one who notices how often Obama plays Simon Sez? He did this on 9/11 when he followed McCain’s lead, ignoring the people greeting he and McCain until he realized that McCain and Cindy were talking to them. Now he wears a bracelet. This guy wants to lead? He’s a good follower.

Showed how much it really meant, just an ornament that Obama wears for the crowd. Like most things Obama, just part of the act.

The talk of the viral town right now is McCain allegedly swearing at the debate. I’ve been sent this a handful of times today, listened closely to this clip with the volume high and, I have to say, it does sound (and look, if you watch his mouth) like McCain is swearing. Judge for yourself.

Exactly what I thought. People that wear these bracelets develop a connection to the person who’s name is on the bracelet, and likely know details of them similar to what McCain related.

Obama doesn’t have a clue who the guy is.

Hence the reason why his connections to Ayers, Klonsky, Alinsky, Wright, et al be pointed out are so important.

Reminds me of Les Aspin as SecDef going to Congress after Blackhawk Down asking,
“Gee guys, what should we do?”

Of course he can’t remember the name! Take a look at how often Obama has worn that bracelet (if at all) prior to the debate. I invite you to simply go to his own website and look at the photos - I think I found one wear there was a band or bracelet, not sure though.

Take a look at McCain’s website and videos. You’ll see the bracelet quite often - dating back to at least his interview in New England the winter of 2007. (I say that only because I couldn’t find a photo or vid showing his right wrist before that.)

IMHO this is not trivial. The character traits demonstrated of doing whatever will get him elected even goes so far as the false support of a mere bracelet. The man is eye candy - sugar free candy at that!

Given the WaPo article is from February 2008, I wonder if there are other pictures of Obama wearing the bracelet, or if he uses his prop only for special occasions.
