Debate video: Obama can’t remember the soldier’s name on his bracelet

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 26, 2008 11:44 PM

I mentioned this in my liveblog and wrap-up posts: Barack Obama’s cringe-inducing “Me, too” moment with his troop bracelet –given to him by the mother of a soldier whose name he can’t remember without having to look down and read it. The name of the soldier is Ryan David Jopek.

Here’s the video:

Remember how much of an uproar the MSM made of George H.W. Bush looking at his watch during the 1992 debate with Clinton (also moderated by Jim Lehrer, by the way)?

Gestures matter.

Chief RZ: No offense toward you, but let me take this one. I could care less about being labeled as “prejudiced” or whatever. In fact I have a strong personal bias towards idiots and call them out whenever and where-ever I can.

    From travapedia:

Omuone who is traditionally defined as a person who lacks greatly in social skills, congnitive reasoning abilities and reading comprehension. An Omu tends to exhibit very poor personal grooming habits and is found to be very gullible and easily led by politicians who speak with a flowery rhetoric that tends to follow the path of circular logic. It is believed that the Omu may be one of the forebears of the geo-political group commonly known as “sheeple” for their distinct inability to hear, see, touch, smell or taste bull$hit and recognize it for what it is. Sheeple tend to migrate towards coastal areas of the United States and are also found congregated near large urban areas throught the mid-section of the country. They tend to have an innate “6th sense” which allows them to be awed and brain-washed into following those who would lead them off the edge of a cliff, and to their demise. This “cliff-diving” escapade is generally preceded by drinking large quantities of “kool-aid” and should be avoided by those of us who have common sense.

Omu and those on his side are truly hilarious. If McCain – or any other Republican – is .03 of a second slow in their response, the liberal trashes them as too “old” “out of touch” “inept” etc., etc., etc.. But if it’s someone on their side that totally fumbles and makes an ass of themselves, then it’s “neocons so desperate that they’re clutching at the thinnest of straws like this”.

Omu lives in the standard-issue liberal bubble. As Pauline Kael has written: “Nixon can’t have won; no one I know voted for him.”
There are those who think for themselves – and then there are those like Omu.

“She gave me this wristband, which I’m very grateful for,” Obama told the Green Bay audience, halting and lowering his voice from his normally upbeat presentation. “I meet mothers and family members all over the country who are still mourning their children but are also thinking about the young men and women who are still over there and wondering when it will end.”

“It means any political ambitions of mine pale in comparison to the sacrifice that nearly 4,000 family members have made,” McCain said of the bracelet in an interview with The Associated Press last fall. He said although political pundits said his determination not to end the fight in Iraq will kill his political career, “when you meet the mother of Matthew Stanley, then what difference does that make?”

McCain’s words tend to go away from himself and toward doing what is right at any cost. Obama’s words tend to always reflect himself. He never mentions sacrifice in a personal form because he cannot relate to that. He is not a supporter of our military, does not believe in any cause greater than himself and he has never served his country. Although, we are now told that he did consider it at one time. McCain can’t tie his own shoes because of his service and his principles. We are constantly renminded that BHO went back to Chicago after turning down lucrative job offers. We very seldom get reminded that McCain chose to stay in Hanoi while still in very bad medical shape and be tortured even more, knowing that he could even be killed, to follow his convictions and a code of honor. Obama’s biggest personal test came when… Oh yes, he is to receive OJT when he becomes president.
A man who ’sacrificed’ making lots of money, and who is now wealthy, over a man who was willing to sacrifice himself literally, for the greater good. I know which man I will choose to be my commander-in-chief.

I was pleasantly encouraged by McCain’s ready answers, the number of bills he “off the top of his head” pulled out that he’d either supported or didn’t support, his world view, and domestic policies.

‘Bambi tried his best to use this as just one more opportunity to spin, spin, spin. Nothing seemed well thought out. Guess lecturing his audiance is his strong suit, but this is the Big Time. Yes, his body language with forced grins/set jaw, looking off somewhere, and smirks didn’t win the day. Putting words into the mouth of a former Secretary of State didn’t win him any points either. Looked like a little kid trying to tell a whopper and in spite of the truth, sticking to his story.

That reminds me, was anyone else ticked off about Lehrer’s chronic admonition to the candidates to “look at one another”? If he thought about it for a nanosecond, perhaps they could have been sensitive enough to realize that McCain may not be physically ABLE to turn that way for long periods of time. If they sincerely wanted the candidates to look at one another, they could have positioned the podiums properly.

This exibits the difference between a campaign trick, and something that someone does because they truly feel something for the act.

The Tarnished Bovine wears his out of a need to perform…the exact same reason why all of a sudden he wears a lag lapel pin after claiming that to wear one is fake.

I would bet if you go back and examine pictures of him at any of the recent speeches and Party Rallies, you will not see that bracelet on his wrist. It is simply a prop for him to pull out when needed. Last night, he planned to use that prop and was taken aback when McCain, who obviously actually cares for the person whose name is engraved on it, mentioned it, spoiling the opportunity to use that prop.

I have said he was an empty suit for over 4 years now, and nothing else could have demonstrated that fact any more clearly than watching him stumble and bumble with trying to remember the name on his, and fumbling with his made-up story behind it.

Frankly, I doubt that anyone other than his Campaign Manager gave it to him telling him to wear it and why. I believe his is as fake as he is.

Take a look at McCain’s website and videos. You’ll see the bracelet quite often – dating back to at least his interview in New England the winter of 2007. (I say that only because I couldn’t find a photo or vid showing his right wrist before that.)
