Kill the Democrat stimulus-palooza bill: House votes today; Update: Boondoggle bill passes
Scroll for updates…
As I noted a few hours ago, Harry Reid’s $56 billion stimulus-palooza bandwagon got shot down in the Senate.
It’s up for a vote in the House this afternoon.
This behemoth boondoggle is a vehicle for all the other Christmas tree attachments and special interest goodies that Democrats failed to get passed in the year’s other stimulus packages.
Just say no. Urge your reps to hold the line: 202-224-3121.
Yes, John Boehner, it is a time for “ideological purity.”
From Boehner’s office, just arrived in my email box:
Boehner Statement Opposing House Democrats’ “Stimulus” Legislation
GOP Leader: Dems’ Plan “Asks taxpayers to bankroll more and more federal spending that we simply cannot afford. It’s pure politics.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement opposing the Democrats’ “stimulus” plan that is due for a vote in the House later today:
“During these days of incredible economic uncertainty, now is not the time to bring a massive $60 billion monstrosity to the House floor – particularly since this proposal was introduced just hours ago. Saddling taxpayers with tens of billions in unscrutinized spending simply to fulfill an election year agenda is the height of irresponsibility. House Republicans have said, time and time again, that the very best way to stimulate the economy is by blocking the Democrats’ largest tax hike in American history, reining-in wasteful Washington spending, and passing a comprehensive energy plan to help lower gas prices. This legislation does none of that. Instead, it asks taxpayers to bankroll more and more federal spending that we simply cannot afford. It’s pure politics.”

Update: The House passed the boondoggle bill — tab is at least $61 billion. 41 Republicans joined the Dems:
As negotiations on a massive Wall Street bailout bill were getting back on track, the House Friday passed a $61 billion economic stimulus bill, which Democrats lauded as necessary help for a struggling Main Street.
Democrats won the support of 41 Republicans in passing the measure on a 264 – 158 vote.
A number of Republicans, including GOP leaders, objected to the bill on the grounds that it was rushed through the House. Democrats sent the bill to the Rules Committee Thursday night and brought it to the floor Friday.
But Democrats had been talking about the broad outlines of their stimulus plan for months. The bill they passed Friday included $18.5 billion for transportation and infrastructure projects that Democrats said will create jobs, as well as seven weeks of additional unemployment insurance payments for the entire country, as well as an additional 13 weeks for states with high unemployment.
The bill also included $15 billion in additional Medicaid funding for states, and $3 billion for food stamps.

Keep calling, especially if your Rep is a member of the Blue Dog coalition. The mood of the people is not to okay MORE government spending. The taxpayers are on a roll – let’s not blow it. Remind them that you will be going to the polls on Nov 4th.
The House conservatives are really making me proud. Keep it up!
Anyone else getting impressed by Boehner? He has been doing well with the drill for energy protest against Pelosi. He needs our support.
Finally they show some resolve.
I called my representative and stated loud and clear that I have *never* *ever* missed a mortgage payment and didn’t want her voting for me to pay any one else’s.
I said that if the Dems have such a great package they should go ahead and pass it without her vote; that’s why they wanted a majority in the first place isn’t it?
Apparently, the House Republicans are still feeling their oats after their Summer Vacation on the House floor once the Democrats went home. Good…if they had acted like this for the last 7 years they would still be in the majority and the Obamessiah would still be a State Senator.
The REAL story on the ‘Subprime Mortgage Crisis’. Please HELP spread this FAR AND WIDE!:

God Bless the USA.
Reid, Pelosi and the rest of the Democrat policy makers are showing their true colors and they are going to be sorry on Election Day. The people will have spoken.
Shame on you Michelle, you can’t say Christmas?!?! You’ll offend someone.
No…. they CAN’T have my money.
Now they can go back and vote on budget cuts. They can start with your Congressional Salary. If they worked on commission, they’d have an income of zero.
If you are represented by a Democrat representative, call them up and warn them about supporting another Bush emergency plan.
Remember the Iraq War authorization?
I’ve already emailed both my Senators and my Rep.
BTW, the crash in the housing market hurts those most who HAVE to sell their houses… like active military members being transfered. That sucks.
It’s ironic to me that the dems bemoan Bush’s spending and then come up with something like this. Hypocrites every one of them. Tell me, are all democrats nothing but a bunch of dummies?
We’re on the brink of total disaster, and these idiots want to throw away another 60 billion on a large waste-paper basket full of slimy pork-covered earmarks that do nothing for the economy. Real clever.
How does extending unemployment benefits help the economy?
How does banning any drilling help the economy?
How did these idiots get elected? Oh that’s right, they lie and manipulate, and when that doesn’t work, they sponsor voter fraud.
When the word shame had some punch and people took it seriously, the question could be asked of the democrats – Have you no shame?
Nowadays, the word has little or no meaning.
Wish I knew which liberal Pied Piper is leading all these liberals down the path of destruction.
@ iamsaved : I think the problem is that they are constantly trying to ‘out-liberal’ each other, just so they can boast about how extremely liberal they are, while being totally oblivious to the fact that their actions are destroying what is left of this country.
Would Arbor Day be more appropriate?
New Democrat party vote buying extravaganza.
It’s the same as when they tack on all kinds of pork to a military spending bill and then dare anybody to “vote against the troops” or teh President to veto it. The Dems are holding the economy hostage.
I send a hearty “bravo” to John Boehner. On behalf of the Rebublicans, he is demonstrating some real leadership in a desperate time, and exposing the transparent wacko’s on the left. Michelle—please post his contact information so we all can give him our support.
I also want to know when charges are going to be brought against Raines, Gorelick, Frank, Schumer and the other crooked idiots–these are dispicable people–we cannot forget.
By the way, how is it that Gorelick, who was largely responsible for putting up the walls that prevented information flow between the CIA and FBI and other agencies, leading to almost 3000 American deaths on 9/11, was allowed on the 9/11 commission? A bit of a conflict, don’t you think. Likewise, how are Frank, Schumer and the others, with the blood on their hands not even dry from the sub-prime debacle, permitted to be at the front and center of trying to remedy their catastrophic mess? What a complete farce, and all at the expense of the American people!
Wow, LC, that video was very powerful and very educational. Everyone should watch it. Thanks!.
Nice video reference there LC, Thanks!
But, but, they left out the Mccain shamnesty from last year.
… sigh …
keep up the fight gang!!!
mention you want a YES vote on HR6975 the Jihad Prevention act Tancredo introduced last week amongst other things it BANS SHARIA in the USA.
foot on neck…press down
they aren’t even close to going home yet major dem infighting coming tick tick tick
LC…that was outstanding. It just went out to my mailing list.
So, if we stop the bailout and default on China we can file for bankruptcy protection with the international monetary fund?
Maybe we should pay China just enough to back them off and let Wall Street fix their own mess by chopping Corp. and capital gains taxes.
Or maybe if we default we’ll be forced to live within our means, cut social programs and every penny of unnecessary spending.

WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMAN – TELL HIM:
IF YOU CAVE, THE DEMS WILL HANG THIS AROUND YOUR NECK LIKE A TIRE FILLED WITH GASOLINE. YOU WILL BURN AS THEY BLAME YOU FOR THE CRAP THAT WILL FOLLOW.
Cut the freaking federal government’s expenditure and budget.
How ’bout, in the interests of the country, that these windbag politicians cut their salaries? This is what states are doing right now. US citizens are cutting back right now… so can these pinhead politicians.
DO NOT vote these
Republicanstraitors back into office!!I want to see a roll call on this. I want names.
The resistance was all for naught. How much of this boondoggle will actually go to the things that Dems promised? How much is this giveaway to prop up the layabouts and the unfortunates until the next “stimulus?”
This just stinks. I want the name of those 41 congress critters. Spread the word…. these turkeys’ lives should become more painfully complicated due to their duplicity. So much for whatever “principles” these Republicans said they lived by.
Put the name of those 41 traitors up for all to see.
Just waiting to hear Maxine Waters say:
NO BAILOUT, NO PEACE!
BTW, O’Reilly really blew his stack Thursday, ranting against “Right wing hate radio.”
Guess he means you Michelle.
I believe he has a case of Rush-envy.
hey i think the house repubs should now go on vacation….just like san fran nan did when we were suffering….hey guys don’t forget to turn out the lights!!!!
