Breaking: It’s official. House rejects Trillion-Dollar-Plus Crap Sandwich; roll call vote added
Scroll for updates…roll call vote added…
The votes have been tallied.
228 NAY.
205 YEA.
The Crap Sandwich goes down in flames. (My liveblog of the floor debate is here.)
Still no official announcement on the House floor. Lots of yelling for “order.”
Someone has changed his/her vote.
It’s now 227 NAY, 206 YEA, 1 Not Voting.
1:59pm Eastern. The allotted 15 minutes for voting is over, but there is still no official announcement. Arm-twisting is underway, but only one changed vote so far.
2:06pm Eastern. It’s official. The MOAB has failed.
Yeah, a lot of Chicken Littles are running around screaming about the Dow dropping.
It’s dropped less than 5 percent.
Apocalyptics said it would be down 20-30 percent.
The bailout failed.
The world survives.
***
2:29pm Eastern. I’ve been trying to access the House website for the roll call vote, but the entire site is hung up.
Meantime, the GOP leadership is holding a press conference. Imagine if they had been on the right side of this monster. They could be claiming victory, seizing the momentum, and advancing the conservative agenda. Instead, they’re complaining about Nancy Pelosi’s partisan attack on the floor. (Vid here.) What did you expect, crap sandwich swallowers?

Here’s the roll call vote…

PEOPLE HAVE REVOLTED!!!
And the markets dive… not that I’m complaining about rejection of the bill, it’s just the perception of some.
The markets were diving before…
WOW, I really didn’t see this coming.
How this monstrosity was actually created behind congressional doors.
Yay! Flaming crap sandwich!
Thank God, Thank God, Thank God!!!!!!
Get the Roll Call on this, and get rid of EVERY SINGLE BUM who voted YEA to this craptasic bill.
Time to clean up the House, America.
Markets now in free fall. WOW.
nice.
Michelle, really outstanding job with all the posts re: bailout.
will you also be posting a list of the votes by senator?
I don’t believe it. Sheesh…now what? Does it get revised further, or will the Senate vote on it and it go back to the House for another go?
Where ya at on this, McCain?
I can’t wait to hear Queen Pelosi’s response…
We need to keep up the heat.
Looks like Wall Street’s tycoons are following through on their blackmail threats to force us to pay for their crimes and congress’s crimes. DOW dropped by over 600 but is now around 400 down….
The market is already starting to come back.
dow is rallying somewhat
I can not believe this failed. Wow. Thank all who voted against this. My stocks are in the tank, but I can live without them.
L
Dow is actually coming back up…
Jun 30-2007 – Immigration amnesty defeated
Sep 29-2008 – Wall street amnesty defeated
History
oh look!! feebiebabe is alive and the Bill is dead!!!
I want to see how Tom Price voted. I called his office. He’s been good on other things and hopefully he still is.
Thank God. Where can we find the roll call vote?
The vote is still open, per CNBC and can still pass. The House Republican needs to move to close the vote NOW!!! I wonder if the blue dogs came over to the right side or were the democrat NAYS liberal buffoons who wanted more?
I can’t believe this got voted out.
Trying to sell my shares at 50% of current market price online, no buyers.
I cannot believe these politicians put their popularity in front of the well-being of the economy.
I hate that we were having to do this, but I still believed it was necessary to survive. This vote spells the end of the USA. Expect martial law, expect the total suspension of rights. You asked for it, you got it, hope you’re proud of yourselves.
lmao @ crap sandwich.
funny.
hi AJ!
i was watchin C-SPAN prayin. lol
Don’t get too confident just yet. They are still trying to arm twist people to vote for this disaster. If it’s so bad then let the financial armageddon begin!
Screw Wall Street. And screw their enablers.
This bill stinks and it’s just asking a little too much for taxpayers to ignore the smell.
DOW plunges 700 points and still diving in freefall. Told ya.
Praise The Lord…. and pass the ammunition
Barney has the Polaroids.
Yeah, this must be an important matter to bring Feebz out of hiding.
Good to hear from you!
AMEN
Finally some guts. At least solance from Nov.
James Greenidge
Queens NY
When I see all these Obama supporters cheering, I ask myself; Do they really hate George Bush THAT much??
Now, if we could only get 2 new presidential candidates for Nov.
Romney/Malkin 08
94 Dems. Said HELL NO
#22,
I survived the tank of the stock market after the market opened after 9/11. I actually bought stocks to show no one would make me afraid. I will not submit.
L
My heart is beating so fast. I just know some demtards are going to change their minds and pass it, but at least it’ll be on their votes.
it’s amazing how these marxists just ignore all rules!!!!!!
Actually, if the bill had passed, your answer is what we’d be seeing.
I trust in the American free market, not the charade this MOAB would have been. If not derailed by legislation, the market will come back and the stocks will rebound. Don’t panic yet; that’s what the MSM and Dems want us to do.
You just don’t get it do you.. the rich already have their money, it’s YOU and me who are going to suffer for this.
If any of those 94 are in your state, call em and thank them. Do not let Pelosi, Hoyer, Waters, Frank twist their arms to save their asses.
Do it now.
If the Dow’s reaction has any impact on how the House should proceed this bailout should be killed for good. Markets drop 600+ when voting starts then when it fails gains nearly all of the drop back.
Lesson, the market doesn’t like government intervention, let those that played the politician’s subprime game fail. No one will come and bail out my small business if I fail, and we shouldn’t bail out Wall St. In fact, the Republicans should be yelling for criminal proceedings against the leaders in the house that intimidated banking institutions to make these bad loans and allowed Fannie and Freddie to buy the bad notes to pad their own pockets.
We don’t need legislative action, we need judicial accountability.
Why don’t they close the vote? Who is the one guy stalling? And what’s the point? Point of Order, anyone?
You need to hit refresh… the market is actually climbing back up, but don’t let that stop you from jumping.
I really hope so Adlib, I really really do.. I’m shaking and close to being sick here..
Oh, McCain is in support of this sucker. Can you believe that?
OMG, for the first time in my life I might not vote Republican. McCain’s really screwed his own campaign. Man, there is no shelter for conservatives, is there?
Hold onto your wallets; they seem to be holding the vote open until they twist enough arms to change votes, a la the Medicare scam a few years back.
The stall is for arm-twisting to get votes changed
Are the votes still changing? Or is it dead?
Why bother having a clock if you’re not going to bother caring when it runs out. The votes have been cast, Nancy! Bang the gavel you wench.
I won’t believe that until Obama loses Nov. 4.
Michele -do you have the vote tally? Love to see it…I think the failing of this is a good thing. I particularly didn’t like Pelosi saying there would be hearings chaired by the very people who let this happen like Frank and Dodd. never have I witnessed such a scurrilous group of politicians in my lifetime.
Close the damn vote!
I’d rather pay now than later and later and more and more and more. ENOUGH!
They’re trying to get some to change their votes…
Two votes have switched to Y, one D and one R. The longest a vote has ever been held open was three hours (according to FNC).
Right now, D: 141 Y, 94 N, R: 66 Y, 132 N, 1 NV.
Apparently Pelosi made a very partisan speech at the opening of this, and that drove a lot of the Republicans “berserk.”
The DOW seems to be on a bungie cord.
Better now than later. Better me & you than our grandchildren.
stall stall stall… and a dang rain delay in Chicago… I can’t catch a break.
Current tally:
207 in favour
226 against
1 not voting
Overtime: 15 minutes? 20? 25?
MICHELLE do you have a link to the actual vote count so i can see how my congressworm voted.
I’d like to know which crapweasels just changed their vote and what they got in exchange.
However, there are 94 Dems that throw back to the days when everyone cared about their country, not just their party.
Please, stop panicking. I used to work for a brokerage house in my hometown and they would be joking about playing with other people’s money. I think Wall Street has reaped what it’s sewn and that’s all that can be reckoned.
Dow is down currently -453.20. Not as bad as it once was.
I’m currently very disatisfied with the management of my Roth IRA. I’m currently looking for more competent management. I was just about to make a contribution until I saw the Dow tank.
I’m weighing my options. And so are the American people. You need to understand that. Everybody is going to take a hit. Socialism is just too hard to swallow for many people.
I wonder if the 1 not voting was Obama?
How many Dems voted against?
Sorry for reacting so strongly.. everything I have (which is only very little, invested to pay for my tuition) has mostly just gone. I’m upset. I have no future.
OMG…if that is true…good for them for saying F*** YOUU, lady. Hey, wait…that’s actually what I said her voicemail the other night.
yep, pelosi opened her trap and the turds started flowin…. screw her. but get a brown bag first.
I just saw the NAYS increase
Motion is not adopted
You have to love this…
Reminds me of the voice vote for the nomination at the Democratic Convention…Pelosi barely paused at all between calling for nays and gaveling the voice vote closed. Voice votes are supposed to so clearly have a two-thirds majority that a recorded roll-call vote is not necessary. At the DNC, she didn’t give the nay voices a chance to be heard, and it was clear that there was strong support for Hillary…enough to believe that Obama did not have a 2/3 majority, and a roll-call vote should have been required.
Today that a voice vote called, “The ayes have it”, meaning that Pelosi believed 2/3 were in the affirmative, actually turned out to not even have a simple majority.
Pelosi should step down as speaker immediately.
Here’s what I don’t understand. As far as education, religion, naturalism, environmentalism, etc, liberals believe in natural selection and survival of the fittest.
How can they be so bloody hypocritical that they cannot allow natural selection to take place in this case?
Fox is reporting it is official.
Obama is a senator, not a congressman.
This thing stinks so bad even the flies have deserted it.
GOOD!
These things work in cycles. Don’t panic and things will recover. No bear market lasts forever.
#63 – i think the remaining vote was GOP. Which probably makes it worse…we coulda used him/her!
What about “the ayes have it” ??? Ploy or honest mistake?
It was a joke
What? The rules are suspended, the bill has passed? How?
oh my…thought it was a done deal! you gotta love our form of government! As Rush just said, this is fascinating..
Um, er, D’obama is a US Senator in the Senate…not in the House of Representatives
Suspend the rules and pass what? The bill as voted or the literal bill?
What the heck are they voting about right now? The same bill again?
I don’t get it…
Someone keeps yelling “Order” but Nancy doesn’t want order. I guess she thinks she can still force vote changes. Just went back to 205 yays, 228 nays.
WE WON THIS ONE, folks! PRAISE GOD!!!
You’re not the only one. My husband thinks I’m obsessed. I told him that I need to know what’s going on to know what decision we’ll need to make for our future.
I have to make a contribution to my mutual funds and I’m not convined that my brokers are managing my accounts very well. I’m also weighing other things:
1. Should we have a baby right now?
2. Should I go back to school?
3. Should we just pay off all our debt so that we and other Americans don’t get even more hit by this economic debacle?
That’s what’s facing us. I wonder what’s facing other Americans.
Feebie- don’t be a stranger, okay?
Sorry, things have been too serious around here today, my sarcasm meter was turned off.
Another 5-minute vote is going on now…
they are voting to suspend the rules and pass
