That’s time.

Time is money. Your money.

Call your Senator: 202-224-3121.

Thanks for all this information, MM, this has really helped me decide about this bail-out.

Rush is still very against it. Surprised Newt changed his tune.

Am glad so many in the House are still against it. Many of my friends are so scared and uncertain. I feel for them since they own businesses, have just refinanced their homes, etc.

With Obama in favor, McCain opposing would create a distinct difference that mainstream America could actually see. Of course that’s a difference the MSM would actually report (thinking that most Americans think like they do).

Pass this bill and you incite more than the panic on Wall Street you fear will come if we do not go socialist, you incite such an abject distrust of government as can only be seen as more dangerous to our political stability than not passing it may pose to our economic stability.

I will take poverty with freedom, I will live 3 families to a house and grow my own food in a garden if I have to, but I view ANY bill such as this as a total betrayal of the People and of the Constitution. THAT worries me for the future of this nation I served in the US Navy more than even the darkest economic situation you can name.

    NO TO SOCIALISM!

McCain has had numerous opportunities to defeat Obama and with the exception of his support for Heller and his pick of Sarah Palin as his VP running mate, he still keeps squandering them. If he win it will because of the conservative base…period..not because of McCain himself.

If McCain REALLY wants to win he needs to NOT support this robbery (bailout), and he needs to point out to the extent of impalement, the democratic/liberal causes of this insipid baliout-making mortgage loans to people who never should have received them in the first place.

As for McCain’s not looking directly into Obama’s eyes during the first debate..he did exactly what he should do since he is physically shorter than Obama, and for him to look up into Obama’s eyes would have allowed Obama to be visually dominant over McCain

    Three points:

    1. The majority of Americans who didn’t get themselves in over their heads are very angry at having to bail out those who did. We are also angry at a legislature and government officials who allowed all this to happen and are letting the CEOs responsible float away on their golden parachutes.

    2. We acknowledge that SOME form of a bail out has to happen to prevent our economy sliding even further down the toilet. However, it should be the absolute MINIMUM… not this TRILLION -dollar boondoggle that the House just voted down.

    3. We are watching you, Senators and Representatives alike. How you vote today more than ever will determine how WE vote tomorrow. Think about it.

I suppose everyone has a right to shoot themselves in the foot.

Please don’t think I’m being flippant about this. The rejection of this bailout will have consequences that are still unforeseen. But there has to be a better fix.

I seem to notice a marked absence of leftists jumping in on this discussion today. Anyway, FWIW, let me throw in a couple of wrenches:

As has been noted elsewhere, Democrats have a pretty consistent record of inducing crises, blaming them on Republicans, then failing to solve them and blaming that on Republicans, too. Looks like we’re seeing one of the first of this year’s October surprises.

The failure of the bailout bill can apparently be laid directly at the feet of Pelosi. Her inflammatory speech just prior to the vote seemed calculated to get some Republicans who were either reluctantly supporting the bill, or on the fence about it, to vote against it and “cause it to fail” (Of course they didn’t – that honor belongs to the 90 odd Democrats who voted against it).

The market’s immediate reaction could very well have been triggered by a few large short sellers (Soros is famous for this sort of thing) getting things started (and stepping back in near the lows to take profits, letting the market level rise again). Note that the last 200+ points of loss in the DJIA came in the last minute of trading, turning an worse than usual down day into a record one.

In other words, much of this whole mess, which cost investors around $1 trillion dollars today, could very well be just Democrat electioneering.
