Obama’s Missouri Goon Squad plays the victim

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 29, 2008 12:22 PM

(Create your own Goon Squad Logobama here!)

On Friday, I pointed you to Missouri-based blogger Jim Hoft’s overview of how “St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch and St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, both Obama supporters, are threatening to bring criminal libel charges against anyone who levels what turns out to be false criticisms of their chosen candidate for President.”

Over the weekend, Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt blasted the Obama campaign’s abusive use of Missouri law enforcement.

Jim has a follow-up this morning on one of the Missouri Obama Goons who is now playing the victim card in the wake of the backlash.

Licking her wounds.

They thought they could get away with it.

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

With all due respect, iamsaved, I must disagree. The “truth” is that it is perfectly legal to “lie”, unfortunately. It is the voter who is the arbiter of a statement’s veracity; it is not the role of the police to oversee and address the truthfulness of free speech.
This is a very serious abuse of power in Missouri. We should all be concerned.

The beauty of the First Amendment is the right of people to correct things themselves. There’s no need 99.44% of the time for lawyers, sheriffs, prosectors, etc. etc. etc. etc. being the proctors of free speech.

As the Russians say at the ballet that’s a bunch of “Bolshoi.”

If any of these politicians feel they are libeled they have legal recourse. Personally, I think Obama is a wimp, whose never taken a political punch till now, throws tantrums when he gets hit, and is gutless hiding behind his surrogates. Spare us your self-righteous blather. Did you even bother to read the articles you linked to? One was from McCain’s efforts in Jan 2008 to protect himself during the primaries and plainly states that the goal is to inform the voters of truth in opposition to negative attack ads. The Palin ‘truth’ group is composed of people from different states to expose the negative, and for the most part untrue, attcks on her and her character. Notice no law enforcement officals to intimidate anyone.

    http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/News/PressReleases/e015318a-8439-468e-97a8-2e1c1e5039a0.htm

The ‘truth squad’ in Missouri is looking for lawsuits to file to suppress free speech. That was a stated intention of the group. Prosecutors and sherriffs could conceivably intimidate people into silence.
Obama has already used letters to the FEC and the FCC to try to suppress opposition to his candidacy.
There is a huge difference between the aims of the different groups. Yet it somehow escaped someone of your vast intellect.
A fairly high IQ is typical of the posters on this site. It shows in the substance and style of their writing, as opposed to the lunatic rants commonly presented at KOS. Even more importantly, common sense is in great abundance here. That is a trait that you and your KOS-buds don’t have to worry about, as it was not included in your genetic make-up. Hey, maybe we here at MM can contribute some stem-cells to you guys and after injecting them, they could possibly increase your IQ and your common sense levels!

I was just taking into consideration of how much the left pushes stem-cell research. If they took the cells from our butts and injected into the average liberal’s brain, it would probably increase their collective IQ’s by 15-20 points. I fully understand that the bell curve for liberals is a unilateral distribution skewing hard towards imbecile. Maybe our a$$ matter could introduce enough cells to get them past the moron stage. Maybe then we could advance the cause and and increase the IQ of our voters and thus, the number of conservatives in this country. That is change I could believe in. :)

Okay, Municode.com tells me the position of St. Louis County Prosecutor is an elected one.

That makes the partisanship a bit more understandable, albeit not excusable.

However! Municode.com also tells me this:

203.050 Certain Acts Deemed Prohibited Conflicts of Interest. –The following shall be deemed to be prohibited conflicts of interest, and it shall be unlawful for any officer of employee to act in any such circumstances:

    (d) When any County officer or employee shall have discretion to act in any matter, and has accepted or agreed to accept anything of monetary value, either directly or indirectly, from any person or business entity who may directly benefit from the matter, with the intent to influence his vote, opinion, judgment or decision on such matter or to induce him to neglect his duty or to perform such duty with partiality or favor, or otherwise than is required by law.

Only, if we can agree upon a method to accelerate the process. I am not a patient man. Hey! How about a war between all of the 2nd amendment types (that would be me) and those who do not believe in, or own guns?

There’s an option - tell the truth!

That’s the point, Ilovemycountry. Who decides if it’s the truth? The government? That’s what is happening here! Government officials are saying, “Tell the truth or we’ll come after you!”

What if I do tell the truth, but these two government officials “determine” that it is a lie?

My father fought in WWII to stop this kind of government. Now YOU are happy to bring it back. How dare you and your liberal fascist storm troopers try to intimidate me into regurgitating your lies for you.

The Freedom of Speech exists to protect speech we don’t like! If everyone agreed with everything that everyone said, we wouldn’t need the protection for free speech. Do you get that? Idiot!

Thank you, TooMuchTime #66. You explained it beautifully.
ilovemycountry does not seem to understand that truth, by liberal standards, has always been relevant, shady, oh-how-we-love-our-gray-areas, etc. It is conservatives who have been far more clear about it.
It has never been the governments role to do get involved in defining truth, however.
Liberals don’t see the damage that they’re doing.

    vickisoup, (#74) you are welcome.

Understanding that simple fact is at the heart of all that is wrong with political correctness and “hate speech,” whatever that is.

Since liberals disagree with anything logical, scientific, or rational, whenever someone uses reason, logic, and common sense to point out the faults in liberals beliefs, it becomes “hate speech” because the liberals hate it.

    Oh yeah. The all-inclusive liberals.

Isn’t that thought process more liberal than conservative?

Yes, it would be nice if liberals had rudimentary reasoning skills, but alas, then conservatives would have not antagonist to defeat.
