The People’s House can’t take your e-mail

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 30, 2008 04:17 PM

The People’s House? If you’re lucky enough to get through…

Via The Hill:

The House is limiting e-mails from the public to prevent its websites from crashing due to the enormous amount of mail being submitted on the financial bailout bill.

As a result, some constituents may get a ‘try back at a later time’ response if they use the House website to e-mail their lawmakers about the bill defeated in the House on Monday in a 205-228 vote.

“We were trying to figure out a way that the House.gov website wouldn’t completely crash,” said Jeff Ventura, a spokesman for the Chief Administrative Office (CAO), which oversees the upkeep of the House website and member e-mail services.

The CAO issued a “Dear Colleague” letter Tuesday morning informing offices that it had placed a limit on the number of e-mails sent via the “Write Your Representative” function of the House website. It said the limit would be imposed during peak e-mail traffic hours.

“This measure has become temporarily necessary to ensure that Congressional websites are not completely disabled by the millions of e-mails flowing into the system,” the letter reads.

Ventura likened the problem to a bottleneck scenario on a highway, where multiple lanes of traffic converge into a smaller set of lanes. In that situation, some cars get to move forward while others have to remain at a standstill.

Why would I want to give money to buy distressed properties, who, yes, may turn around and make a profit. BUT, for what? More govt programs? No, thanks.

They want us to believe it’s some kind of investment, but they leave out the actual RETURN.

No one that talks about it as an investment, says they’ll give you back the money, in the form of cash.

I had a problem contacting my congressman’s office (Jeff Fortenberry) yesterday and today, so I used the telephone. His web site was jammed up and e-mails came bouncing back. A dollar or two for a long distance call isn’t much compared to the cost of a socialized economy.

Congressman Fortenberry seemed to be wavering early yesterday, but came through on the vote. I think the phone calls and e-mails helped. Now, if Jeff and the others who voted NO can stick to their convictions the market will have a chance to recover on its own. It will be tough for them what with Bush and the rest trying to jawbone this market correction into another Great Depression.

Get on the phone. Tell your representatives in government to keep their hands off the free market. Thank the ones that did the right thing yesterday.

There clearly is a need for a process/hardware upgrade here. Interested people of congress, who always have the citizens best interests at heart, may want to solicit suggestions from their constituents as to possible changes and improvements, and their order of placement (i.e. prioritization). Of course, some changes obviously leap out but if the congress people are sincere they will want to go above and beyond so the majority is heard clearly and forcefully so. This should be a top priority program and one that I think will cost well less than 700 billion dollars, though of course one can never be sure these days.

Note: I actually am not being sarcastic in the above but if you think I am, I will not work very hard to dispute you.

All I want to tell you is — it worked! So keep phoning, faxing, or emailing! Go for the local office if the Washington contact is down. Do it in the middle of the night or super early in the morning.

    Check this out.

Emanuel, who served as a board member for Freddie Mac, one of the agencies that precipitated the economic crisis the nation now finds itself in, had no misgivings about taking a leadership role in tanking the bill. “He was cheerleading us along, mothering the votes,” says the aide. “We wanted enough to put the pressure on the Republicans and Congressman Emanuel was charged with making it close enough. He did a great job.”

Pelosi and her aides have made it clear they were not going to “whip” or twist the arms of members who did not want to vote, but they also made no effort to rally any support for a bill they attempted to hijack over the weekend.

Further, according to House Oversight Committee staff, Emanuel has received assurances from Pelosi that she will not allow what he termed a “witch hunt” to take place during the next Congressional session over the role Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac played in the economic crisis.

Emanuel apparently is concerned the roles former Clinton Administration members may have played in the mortgage industry collapse could be politically — or worse, if the Department of Justice had its way, legally — treacherous for many.

I will also point out that the democrats didn’t need a single Republican vote to pass this monstrosity.

Rush is of the opinion that Pelosi got exactly what she wanted; no way the Dems wanted to pass this boondoggle without the GOP votes. Either way, Pelosi and the Dems get to blame the Republicans for whatever disaster [they're expecting] happens.

They don’t work for us. Try driving on Independence Ave when the House members are being called for a vote. I have waited as long as 25 minutes for the light at New Jersey Ave to change. The police keep the light red and wait very patiently for House members to meander out of their buildings and across the street. Most of them stroll slowly–like they don’t have a care in the world. I suppose most of them don’t.

My congressman is a liberal Democrat, but he voted against the bailout. He admitted no one could tell him what the money would be used for, whether it would solve the problem or if more would be requested. I’m just wondering now if this is his “John F’in Kerry” moment in the sun, where he can vote for the next version, then claim, “I voted against it before I voted for it.”

Yeah, I would like to hear that as well. C’mon mathboy, let’s hear how you tapdance over your own party’s malfeasance, malpractice and corruption.

While you are at it, how about explaining how all those “no” vote Dems get a pass from the wrath of Bawney Fwank?

It is indeed strange, that when the democrats want to pass something, 100% of their folks fall in line 100% of the time. However, for some reason, their reps in those states where the elections are close did not have to vote for the bill….

Republican congressional leaders promised to deliver a number of votes and failed to do so. The stock market tanks and people start thinking their jobs are about to disappear. The volume of email is double what it’s ever been & the system overloads. All Pelosi’s fault. If only she had appointed a more honest Minority Leader this wouldn’t have happened.

Here’s my pickle: My congresscritter is one of the leftest of the lefties, and my two senators are no better, plus one of them is a dunce. So who do I write to? I don’t have anybody for whom it would make any difference at all. They will always follow the Reid/Pelosi line unless they can find a way to screw things up even more.

You just love to troll, don’t you?

First off, let’s look at HOW we got here. We’re here due to the CRA, and the encouragement to make loans to marginal borrowers, in an attempt to create “diversity in home ownership” Then…we have John McCain trying to establish oversight over Fannie and Freddie, with Chris Dodd and Barney Frank saying no, that these organizations are just fine, no oversight needed.

Then…you know, instead of Nancy depending on having to get enough Republican votes, maybe she needed to keep her own folks in line, considering over 40% of her own side didn’t vote for it. Don’t blame us for your own side’s inability to present a unified front.

Also, no mention from you about Pelosi’s totally stupid use of her time to blast Bush and the Republicans. I mean, seriously…biting the hand that you hope will feed you. She needs the votes, so she goes out and…insults the people she needs to vote for her bill. Totally amazing. Totally stupid. It woke some people up, made them realize that there is no “bi-partisan” in her effort, even if she sold it to them that way. She threw them under the bus, so they returned the favor…a really good thing for a really crappy bill.

These people have effectively staged a coup against the United States, overthrown the Constitution and have become oligarchs if not outright dictators. They have stolen our nation right out from under us.

How did it come to this? How do we take back our nation?
