Palin-basher Sandra Bernhard loses gig over gang-rape joke

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 1, 2008 04:25 PM

Lesson for “comedian” Sandra Bernhard:

If you joke about Palin being gang-raped by black men, you might turn off even your most ardent supporters.

Actions have consequences, via Life News:

Comedian Sandra Bernhard has lost her slot as a keynote speaker for a women’s shelter in Massachusetts after attacking vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin on abortion. In a monologue criticizing the Alaska governor, Bernhard made crude comments about rape that cost her the gig.

The comments came in a one-woman stand up show Bernhard did last month in Washington, D.C.. During the event, Bernhard said Palin would be “gang-raped by my big black brothers” and the comments came in a diatribe against Palin’s pro-life views.

Bernhard was supposed to be a featured speaker at the October 16 event “Funny Women … Serious Business” put on by the Boston-based Rosie’s Place, a domestic violence shelter for women.

Public relations director Leemarie Mosca told AP about the cancellation and said the comments were offensive to many of the victims the shelter helps as well as its staff and volunteers.

“In light of our mission, we don’t think violence against women is a laughing matter,” she said.

Bernhard whining about “Stalinist” stifling of “dissent” in 3, 2, 1…

What, exactly, do you see when you read the First Amendment?

    EQ:
I see that it applies to everybody regardless of political persuasion. You won’t find a quote or post from me suggesting otherwise. I’m a 1rst Amendment chick all the way. Stop lying and playing with straw. And yes, I think a rape joke can be done in a funny way. You ignore the fact that I supported the decision by Rosie’s Place to cancel her. Of course that doesn’t fit your talking points.

Cheryl: (amusingly impressing herself with psychobabble):
Good luck getting me out or your head.

This will be the last time I address anything she says about anything

You are too weak and too much of a rightwing sheep on this blog to ignore me. Quit your empty promises and stop
    psychobabble alert ….projecting. LMAO.

You see some conservatives(see Purplepeep) can engage in debate. Others, like you and Mr. Convicted Child Killer, are incapable of anything but insults. There seems to be a problem if I actually, really…..insult you back. That’s not surreal to me at all, but very real, and very representative of your hypocritical ilk. How old are you, and how is the counseling going? If your are a juvenile, I’m embarrassed and apologize to you and others on this blog. Try Magnolia by P.T. Anderson. It may help.

And if a conservative said a lynching joke “can” be done in a funny way – you’d be the first to flip her lid.

Good to know you will, then, oppose the Fairness Doctrine and will adamantly condemn the Obama campaigns attempts to criminalize free speech, correct?

Or is that too much to “hope”?

Yesterday I was despairing that Obama might win – today, I think it’s much better to treat him the way students at Hogwarts treated Dolores Umbridge – with total anarchy.

Obama wins, and we rebel. He’ll have a great four years of us fighting everything he tries to do. In the end, he’ll be as much a lame duck as Bush. Har.

Again, untrue. I think a conservative could do a lynching joke in a funny way. It depends on timing and walking the line properly. It’s all about what’s funny.

Absofreakinglutely I adamantly oppose the Fairness Doctrine. You’ll never find a post from me suggesting otherwise. I’m all about free speech, for better or worse. I’m also for letting the market decide what goes on our airwaves. I never have or will suggest otherwise on this blog, or in offline life.

Look, I apologize. I’ve been unfair and I genuinely appreciate that – as far as the First Amendment is concerned – we seem to be in the same ballpark.

The past few days have, well, sucked. My mother-in-law has been ill and doctors are now diagnosing her with ALS, and predicting she has 1-2 years to live. It has not been fun and there is a rough road ahead. She is seeing a specialist who deals with ALS on 11/11. We’ll have more definitive answers then.

I’ve got so much on my plate between work and school and volunteering that this news just might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

I sincerely wish the best for you and your family. ALS can be an terrible disease, and I hope you all find strength in your faith and support system.

On a side note, aspartame, splenda, and other artificial sweeteners can destroy the body and imitate or cause neurological disorders. The 1rst time I addressed this info, I came off as defensive and ugly because of certain types of people reading my post. That was a mistake, because the main message was lost. I don’t know why ALS happen to your family, but artficial sugars have ravaged the central nervous system of someone close to me. I wanna get that info out there. Again, best of luck on the tough road ahead, and take care.

I do wish these celebrity “intellectuals” would stop trying to insult the intelligence of their audiences with platitudes of “free speech” and- in a moment of refreshing honesty- just come out and say they wanted to push the envelope. The free exchange of thoughts and ideas can’t be equated with saying it’s okay to rape someone. The former is good. The latter is horrible.
That being said, when the hell did Sandra Bernhard get her career back?

I didn’t know that. Sorry to hear about your loved one.

Thanks for the kind words. I just don’t know how this is all going to play out and I feel like I’m losing my mind.

THing is, it should have been disgusting to everyone. Unfortunately, Liberals have no gag reflex and actually welcome things said such as this…as long as it is about someone with an (R) after their name.

    Comedy is subjective.

You merely need wonder about the mentality of someone who would find gang-rape by a bunch of thugs to be humorous.

It would be hard to watch Bernhard anyway unless she had a bag over her head. But beyond that….she’s just another sad example of the coarsening of America. Those who support her do our society a grave injustice by their condoning of such trash. The more people like her are showcased, the more desensitized our society becomes to their garbage. This is not a battle we can afford to lose.
