A message from Dish Network

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 2, 2008 12:27 PM

Last night, I reported on the Obama Channel on Dish Network.

Dish Network sent me the following statement this morning:

“DISH Network Channel 73 is paid advertising by the Obama campaign and is not an endorsement of Senator Obama by DISH Network. DISH Network made the same offer to the McCain campaign, an offer that remains open.”

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Parker C. McConachie
Manager, Corporate Communications
DISH Network L.L.C.

Now you know!

Hmmm, I was glad when the Dish created a temporary channel to show the conventions “as is”, but this is weird. It also seems like a waste of money on Obama’s part; only his supporters are even likely to watch such a channel.

In your previous thread on this topic, Dish Network CS was quoted as saying, “This channel is available to customers subscribing to all packages and is broadcast from the 110° orbital location and will be broadcast though the conclusion of the elections.” (Emphasis mine.)

Am I mistaken, or was there not a law passed preventing campaigning or ads X days prior to an election?

It’s clear that Obama has the money to try anything, even it reason suggests as a marketing tool it is rather limited. The Obama campaign has not yet been bound by the constraints of reason, so why start now? That being said, it would be nice however if our guys were a little more experimental/risky. They were once. Have our tires deflated or what?

It really is up to Sarah now and guess what? — our people, many though not all, are busy tearing her down as well. Talk about Republican Party death wish! Well, as is often said, be careful what you wish for.

I am guessing the satellite is located outside the 200 mile offshore drilling limitation. (which “expired”)

Then again, maybe we are getting an alternative Solar fuel source from the glow around Obama’s head up there.

Probably, but Obama doesn’t have to obey the law. He finds a way around it or sends his goons out to make sure his Majesty’s wishes are obeyed.

I would love to see what the cost of this 24/7 advertising channel is for Obama’s “paid advertising”. It has got to be expensive. It would be interesting to see what the cost is compared to other paid advertising channels to see if there has been any discounts as that could be seen as an in kind contribution. This in light of Obama’s (over the limit) donations from Mr. Doodad and Mr. Good Will makes you wonder if the FEC will do any checking into anything.
