Kill the bailout: Operation Hold The Line
The massive, unprecedented trillion-dollar-plus (remember, they just pulled the figure from thin air) Bailout Crap Sandwich With Sugar On Top returns to the House. A vote is expected on Friday. I keep hearing and reading that public opposition to this rushed-through monstrosity has “softened” in the wake of the Senate’s approval last night. I’m not sure why the bailout pimps keep touting that talking point when countless Americans trying to express their vehement disapproval can’t even get through the FUBAR House e-mail system!
Now is the time for the fiscal conservative House Republicans who voted against the bailout on Monday (before it ballooned to four times its size) to buckle down. Refuse to be bought off. Refuse to be co-opted by the Orwellian “It’s a ‘rescue,’ not a bailout” propaganda ministers. Refuse to be pressured and panicked and bullied by the Apocalyptics. Refuse to submit to Pelosi/Frank/Paulson’s collective will. Refuse to flip-flop. Refuse to swallow.
The bailout peddlers need 12 Republicans to turn. The payoffs are in the works:
“We need 100 Republican votes to pass this,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told reporters at a Wednesday afternoon briefing.
House leaders “are bringing in the small business lobby and the banking lobby to buy the 12 Republican votes they need,” said Bob Borosage, the co-director of the progressive group Campaign for America’s Future.
To quote the great Lady Thatcher: “This is no time to go wobbly.”
The People’s House needs to hear from the people. Get your fingers dialing for Operation Hold The Line. Because so many of you asked, I’ve compiled the phone numbers for each and every one of the House GOP members who voted no on Monday. They need to hear from you again. Area code is 202 for all numbers:

I wonder who else will be bailed out and how much it will cost us and our families to pay for this new welfare state that we have created. Taking my paycheck to subsidize another person or bankrupt company isn’t what America was supposed to be. If we do turn into a welfare-socialist state, liberties and freedoms will be gone for all time.
Michelle,
I think they may need more than the 100 Republicans that they are claiming. Out in WA the Dem’s are getting an earful from their consituency. Seeing as the House email went down the voters have been going through the newspapers to leave comments about the votes via the comment sections. Here are just some of the comments left for Baghdad Jim (and remember this is coming out of Seattle of all places!!)via the Seattle PI:
Michelle-
Truesoldier (#2) is correct. Out here, Greg Walden is getting hammered with calls to not vote for the bailout and he may just turn on a dime.
And some heartening news: There are Democrats with a heart out here. Specifically Peter DeFazio, the only NRA endorsed Democrat in the entire nation. He has mentioned he may be willing to sign on with the Hensarling plan.
Thank you for that list of numbers, MM. It gives me hope that maybe I can get through today. Well – through to talk to somebody – not necessarily get through the thick skulks of many in Congress.
Thank you for the list Michelle. I will call as many as I can.
Do you have a list of “wavering” democrats that voted no last time that may be considering a yes vote this time?
My D rep out here voted against it the other night, been calling and emailing when I can get thru asking for her continued support, but I don,t trust her. I am ashamed of my two Senators for caving in last night, both are R’s.
I wish we could clone Sen. DeMint (one or two for each state). Thanks Michelle for all your hard work, you’ve been the sunshine in the days darkness.
Thanks for your persistence Michelle. We will keep up our end, calling our representatives and praying for our Great Country.
Michelle, you’re my fave, but how about elevating the language a little. The crap nonsense is not only vulgar, but tiresome. Leave the vulgarity to the libs.
BurnedOutHippie/Malkin 2008
Still waiting for a positive, reasonable plan to deal with the very real problem at hand.
Thank you for the phone numbers MM, but I already have my reps on speed-dial.
Ain’t cell phones cool! And the call is free.
oops…if Congress hears that, we might have to look forward to them taxing the free call to fund the bail-out-a-palooza!
It’s not a “crap sandwich” anymore, it’s a “sewage plant” after Thanksgiving dinner filled to the brim with all the trimmings.
were so screwed 08′
My rep voted yes, very disappointed.
Go here and take a one question survey on the Bailout er, rescue er, bologna bill.
http://www.bono.house.gov
I just watched Marcie Kaptur D from Ohio on GMA – and she had been on the other day after the house vote. I appreciated her stance (and her ability to stand up to Chris Cuomo’s badgering)….and was going to call her to tell her so – but she’s not on the list above.
Stupid question here – Who is the small business lobby they are bringing in. I know of several small business groups – all of them against this travesty.
Do we know?
Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
The plan will pass is some form. Government will control even more of our economy. Obama will ride the incompetence of the republicans into the White house. Democrats will gain in both houses thanks to the MSM and the stupidity of half of America. Now is the time to start thinking of 2010, 2012, and beyond.
I just recently learned of the Long March philosophy of Antonio Gramsci. You must change the culture to change the government. It is time for a concerted, long-term plan to get America back. It worked for Gramsci, it can work for us.
If you cannot get through on the DC phones and emails, try looking up your congressman’s personal/local offices. That’s what I did and got through with no problem. They will forward the info to DC.
And also thanks to Michelle for keeping us so informed. You’re the best!!
By the way, I am in no way suggesting we don’t fight tooth and nail to win this election. We should fight with everything we have. Never give up!
Won’t it be a sad and telling day if this passes with Rep. support and not Blue Dog Dems — who apparently are putting up the most resistance to it! They’ll never live it down. The “R” means nothing anymore.
So far I’ve seen Bill Isaac, former FDIC head, call this an awful bill and the senior lecturer of economics at Harward say the same. Both said there were far better solutions than tax dollars.
Isaac said the S&L bailout, over which he presided, was worse than this and that no taxpayer $$ was used. Both guys said the FDIC’s $250,000 limit was next to worthless in the scheme of things, yet all the “yays” are citing this as some major selling point.
Some financial crisis. They found a way to put tons of pork in it.
Did you hear about the tax breaks it contained for movie and TV producers? Hmmm, wonder who put that little gem in?
No, you don’t need any Republicans to vote for this – it’s a Democrat majority, remember?
I have mixed emotions about this bill. On one hand I resent the fact that we’re having to pay for other’s bad decisions. I resent that we’re being forced to bail out those that bought homes they couldn’t afford, and I really resent that we’re being asked to bail out these companies and individuals when all of this could have been avoided if government hadn’t stuck it’s nose where it didn’t belong… if Democrats hadn’t tried their social engineering, and if Democrats hadn’t obstructed Republican efforts to fix the problem.
I’m mad as h*ll that the administration and John McCain haven’t publically laid the blame where it belongs, and I don’t understand why this crap sandwich doesn’t include fixes for the laws that caused this mess in the first place.
Why haven’t they repealed the CRA? Why haven’t they changed the rules that Clinton pushed through in 1995 that supercharged this mess? By not fixing the problems that caused this in the first place they’re (Congress) setting us up for another massive bail out in another few years. By not fixing these problems they’re continuing their failed social engineering program (forcing banks to loan money to people who don’t qualify in the interest of “fairness”).
On the other hand, if we don’t pass some kind of “bail out” what are the consequences to the economy? What will be the consequences for those of us who have been responsible? Do we want to run the risk of the entire nation going through a depression? I detest the idea of government intervention in the markets. That’s what got us into this mess, but what are our other options at this point?
I know one thing… Frank, Dodd, Pelosi, Reid, and Obama should be perp-walked straight to federal prison. Ken Lay didn’t even screw up this bad and he was looking at prison time.
Regards,
Jim C
The economy should be better already. I think there was a freakin’ fire sale on souls last night and way too many were in on the sale.
Senators, can you hear me now? How about now? Now?
The lead op ed piece in today’s WSJ out the whole mess in a very good perspective for those on this blog and others, who’ve been stamping their little feet and shaking their little fists. In the words of the great Pogo, “We have met the enemy and it is us’.

Given the tenor or the threads and responses I wonder of any of this will register with many on this blog, but perhaps with some.
I called and e-mailed my reps local offices, too. Worked like a charm. Their websites offer this information. Also faxed them letters (Myfax.com rocks) and was able to get through. Don’t stop bailing folks or the ship will sink.
My guy is against this all the way … Economic socialism is not the way to solve anything, except the end of the free market.
I don’t have to worry about my Congressman, Congressman Scott Garrett. He is 100% against the bailout, in the words of one of his staff members. He has been all up and down Fox News and even the Mark Levin show last night rallying against this thing.
My two Senators from NJ, on the other hand, are a different story. They voted for the bailout. Both my girlfriend and I emailed their offices, I’m sure other New Jerseyans did as well, to no avail. Not that I’m surprised.
I was flipping from Fox News to C-SPAN last evening. I happened to catch Dodd on C-SPAN after hearing Sean Hannity on Fox say that Dodd wanted to have hearings on how we came to this point. This morning in the Wall Street Journal, I read the article pointing out all of the lefties stating there is no problem with Fannie and Freddie. Dodd, Dodd, Dodd. Has your head been in the sand lo these many years?
y two Senators from NJ, on the other hand, are a different story. They voted for the bailout. Both my girlfriend and I emailed their offices, I’m sure other New Jerseyans did as well, to no avail. Not that I’m surprised.
Yup. An exercise in futility.
Yup. An exercise in futility.
There, that’s better.
Hello? Why can’t I see my comments?
ex-pat, the article you reference does have some points, but I think more people would be willing to look at a bailout bill if it actually accomplished something. This appears to me to be another case of Congress saying “we need to do something” which usually translates to quick action without regards to the long term effects it will have on all of us. Let’s say we bail out this time, next it is the auto makers, then the groceries, the airline industry and on and on. There is no end in sight and this is just one of the many problems. People here are not against a bill, but we are against a bad bill. There is so much Pork in this bill that is so unneccessary to help the economy. Why is it that Congress, claiming we need to do something, could not come up with a clean bill? There are other plans out there that have been floated that have the backing of some economists where as this bill does not. There are too many giveways of money and power in this bill and no guarantees that the American people will not be fleeced this time or again in the future.
It is true we all need to tighten up on our spending habits. I do not live outside my means and am working in Iraq as a contractor to put myself and my family in a better financial standing. To do this I have had to sacrifce time spent with my family. It is tough at times, but to see our goals nearly reached and to do it without any help from anyone and to do it from sheer determination and through our own sacrifice has made it all worthwhile.
Try some of these as well then just ask for your congressional rep…some may not work but the majority should…

The signs when you enter the state should read “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here”.
I’m just outside of Congressman Bill Sali’s district, but will call to encourage him to hold his ground. He has a pretty good conservative voting record and has been against this bailout of Wall Street from the beginning. Congressman Simpson on the other hand will have to hire Blackwater Security if he vote’s for this turd a second time around. I will keep trying, but will probably only be able to get his local state office once it opens. I will be polite, but his staffers are going to get an ear full.
At least Senator Crapo voted against it last night unlike the lying crapweasel “wide stance” Craig. From talking to most folks during my errands in town yesterday anyone voting for this will not be welcome in Idaho. A lot of angry people yesterday talking about something to do with tar, feathers, rails, neck tie parties, lit torches, sharpened pitchforks, and stocking up on guns and ammo. Welcome to the United Socialist States of America should this pass into law.
How about “wait and see”? If the problems being predicted do start to come true we can pass this bill. Let’s try some more reasonable measures first.
My Republican Senator John Thune voted “YES”… And Democrat Senator Tim Johnson voted “NO”.
Just so happens that Johnson is up for Re-Election in Nov.
Also, our Rep. Stephanie Herseth (Democrat) is also up for Re-Election, and she voted “NO” on this Bailout.
I think it boils down to Politics takes front seat over THE PEOPLES WILL and THE CONSTITUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!
Article V of the United States Constitution says THE PEOPLE have the Right to remove Elected Officials (Senators,Represenatives)for NOT doing THE WILL of THE PEOPLE.
Maybe it is time for ANOTHER Constitutional Convention.
Wait for it… the questions on race relations, for which Biden will have been well prepared.
It seems that those like you with little brains are impressed that the Wall Street Journal is coming to the defence of …. Wall Street. Who’d have thunk it?
Well, since people who shall remain nameless, money was safely scooted out of site in the hedge fund debacle earlier this week, they can afford to enlist the gullible to let it happen again. Any every day Joe who follows the advice on this web site is a fool and if it weren’t so harmful, I’d say good enough for you.
jeanie, how does this bill do ANYTHING to prevent this happening again?
Exactly. Although we need to get the Republican Party back first.
Are other tactics possible? I am deeply worried about this phone freeze — i.e. the continuing problems with getting through to Washington. Could small demonstrations be quickly arranged outside of the local office of the congressperson? Even if said individual is in Washington, the word might be relayed by local staff that people are visibly unhappy, visibility being the key here.
My rep, Tim Holden (D-PA) voted no but BOTH of my senators, Bob Casey (D) and Arlen Specter (RINO) voted yes. I can’t say I’m surprised; both of these so-called senators also voted yes on the shamnesty bill!
I’ll be contacting Holden to give him a belated “Thanks” for voting no and I’ll urge him to hold on to that position.
Michelle, this constant hammering to reject the bill in its’ entirety is irresponsible, dangerous and shortsighted.
Like you, I wish that this bill did not even exist. I wish that the American economy could be strong enough to withstand this downturn without an act of intervention.
But it ISN’T. And THAT is the reality on the ground, Michelle… it’s irresponsible and dangerous to promote denialism at such a critical time in our nations’ history.
Things are already falling apart… maybe you don’t feel it, but I sure do.
The economy is already beginning to tank in a way that can be felt all the way down here on the bottom of the food chain. You think not?
I’m a hands-on caregiver, and I work with the disabled and elderly, people who are struggling with alzheimers and dementia and other devestating illnesses and their caregivers. This is a demographic that is particularly vulnerable to financial loss, because many of them require long-term or specialized care. And I don’t think I need to tell you that this kind of care is very expensive.
I’ve been seeing a lot of very upset elders this week who are watching their retirement investments dry up and blow away, leaving them without the financial resources to pay for long-term care for themselves or a loved one. They know that this is a harsh world and nobody is going to come along and bail THEM out. What are they supposed to do now?
These people have planned very wisely for their golden years and are now watching thousands and thousands of dollars that they were depending on fly right out the window. And they are absolutely helpless to stop it. I talked to one couple yesterday, an older couple who are stricken with alzheimers and parkinsons. Both require long term care, and they have lost well over 26,000 of money that was carefully saved and invested over the years.
Look, I hate this bill just as much as you do, and I don’t want to pay for it.
But it simply HAS to be done. Letting our entire economy tank because we don’t want to pay a one time tax increase to keep it afloat, is simply unthinkable. Wall street on it’s own migh be able to recover, but vulnerable American citizens like the families that I work with won’t.
Of course the bill isn’t perfect, but it’s not going to be perfect. And we simply don’t have time to re-work it over and over and over again until it’s palatable.
These are the facts on the ground, Michelle. Nobody likes it. But it has to be done, and the time has come for deeds instead of words.
You want to hammer away at John McCain for voting for this bill… not surprising. But using his vote on this bill as fuel for your personal rage machine is terribly irresponsible, and you need to let up on it.
Like all of our lawmakers, McCain is faced with two very lousy choices here and he has to make the choice that he feels will most benefit American citizens in the long run based upon on the information that he has at hand. He understands that letting this bill fail in entirety – and letting the American economy to go belly up – is simply not an option. This is a very difficult time and none of the choices are good. But he has served us well by urging House Republicans to take a stand and demand concessions for low-income families, small businesses and vulnerable Americans.
In the end, it’s all that he can do. He’s still a senator, not the President, and he doesn’t have the power of the pen. It says a lot about him that he is willing to go to Washington and put his vote on record.
I’m sure that he knows that people like you are going to scream about it and I’m sure he knows that it may cost him the election. And I think that it’s incredibly disappointing that you are leading the charge. There are a lot of reasons to criticize John McCain, but this should not be one of them.
I am praying for the quick passage of this bill, for the sake of my family and our most vulnerable citizens… the elderly, the sick, the low-income worker, the unemployed. WE are the ones who will suffer the most if the American economy tanks.
I’m not going to enjoy paying for it, but I’m not going to bitch about it. Paying the bill now is a small price to pay for giving my children a future. Asking them to suffer the severe and long-term consequences of a collapsed economy is something that I’m just not willing to do.
Good idea! I call the local office, and have no trouble getting through.
That’s nice. Aren’t they the same people that dismissed us for opposing amnesty and tried to tell us about the economic benefits of illigal immigration?
My Representative, Jeff Flake (R) AZ 6 voted no. Fiscally he is quite conservative so I guess that is a good thing-Pork Parade is his. The un-good thing is he is the one that came up with One Continent, One People, One Country that John McCain bought into.

Go to their Web site (or a phone book) and call the district office. It should be easiest to get through on that line.
Also, don’t be afraid to exert pressure on your liberal Democrat Congressperson. There is lots of pressure on the left to kill this.
Hey Boomer
I’ve just returned after a week out of state and northern Idaho is mad as hell. Simpson has to go.
I read something interesting this morning online, I think the site was the UK Times through Drudge online….
France is asking for a 300 billion dollar bailout now. Sarkozy claims our mismanagement has played havoc with their markets and now they need money to bail their financial system out.
The way I understood the article was a couple of the nationalized banks are supposedly in trouble.
Angela Merkel has said “no way” to a bail out for France. She pretty much said sink or swim.
This ranks right up there with the pre-paid Visa cards they gave out after Katrina … and we all know how that money was spent …
Throwing more money down the toilet just to claim they have done “something” … well … under those circumstances … I would prefer they do “nothing” …
They can’t even identify exactly what needs to be done to fix the problem and its causes …
Precisely how and where is this money going to be spent? … Who determines what is a valid expenditure? … Who is going to track that the money is used as intended? … no one can answer any of those basic questions …
Mark my words … within 6 months they will be back at the feeding trough looking for another trillion $$$ to address the same problem …
Just called my representative (Duncan Hunter) Am told he will be voting no, which I assumed he would anyway.
The NERVE of these WASHINGTON WEASELS… Not a BAILOUT but a RESCUE… Why is it that EVERY TIME there is so called BI-PARTISANSHIP the CONSERVATIVES take it in the SHORTS??? How did a PROPOSAL submitted by PAULSON and BERNANCKE at 3 pages, become 400 plus pages??? Stop this now, get on the phone!!!
So, this is the worst economic disaster this country has ever faced. It is IMPARATIVE that the bill be passed! We must act quickly!! Oh, but we will also be adding $100 million in pork to the bill. But never mind. Just vote yes. If this bill is so vitally important, why are they loading it up so that they will certainly kill a lot of the votes they say they need? These people are truly insane. McCain was on FOX this a.m. telling us we must get this done or people will jump out of windows in droves (sorry, that rhetoric is mine). Yet, he says nothing about the earmarks that he has used as a huge issue in his campaign. I guess earmarks are o.k. sometimes and we have to reach across the aisle and dip our hand into the poop sometimes…huh, McCain?
I was talking with the wife last night and mentioned this :
Why not make copies of our Mortgage and take it down to the Local Congressional Offices. Ask them WHICH NEW SOCIALIST DEPT. will be paying off OUR MORTGAGE?
do you expect an answer from her that requires independent thinking? not a chance. the supporters are just typical talking-point libs.
If there were not elections going on right now, this wouldn’t even be an issue. Thank you Dems for making a crisis of extreme magnitude! Drama Queens!
I am with you on this. I have been on the fence but am leaning heavily against it now. But let me add my 2 cents (prob not worth that). This bill will simply prop up the rampant borrow/spend consumerism of the past decade. That is a ponzi scheme that will eventually fail. If you can’t qualify for a new car loan, then you shouldn’t be buying it. Make due or buy a used car. This plan is a short term solution, at best. And no gurantee’s it will work. If it doesn’t the congress will be back asking for more $ in 2 years. The market probably needs to go through a correction phase. We shoudl seek to minimize but the excesses of the past can not continue forever.
This bill also, IMHO, punishes those of us who were reponsible and actually saved some $. Pumping $700B into the system while the Fed just injected $650B last week will have the effect of increasing inflation and driving down the purchasing power of our savings. Those who borrowed and spent are rewarded. A drop in demand, brought on by a tighter credit market, will eventually result in deflation of commodities and raw materials. Less cars, less demand for steel, etc. That will benefit those who did save.
And I am dead set against the gov’t seizing and controlling the financial institutions. That is nothing more than communism. The gov’t can then decide which industries/companies should receive loans and funding for projects (think of an oil company seeking credit form a democrat controled gov’t), rather than letting consumers and the markets decide who is worthy with their purchases. Sure all this might lead to some people losing jobs and a bad stock market for a while but it will correct itself eventually. The gov’t right now is thinking only short term, just like the corporations who sell out the companies future to make a quick buck this quarter. There is mroe but I will stop.
I haven’t seen Pelosi lately. Maybe they confined her to the rubber room until she calms down. I think that woman is in deep trouble and may be on her way out. We can hope. This latest flack about her husband’s business is getting some press…at least on FOX. I don’t know about the other media because I can’t stand to watch it. I realize we need to know our enemy, but I have to watch my blood pressure. Watching the MSM is like eating a tub of heart-stopping, cholesterol-filled pork fat (pardon the pun).
Had no problem sending an e-mail to the one Democrat from Mass who voted No. But try sending Niki Tsongas ( who voted yes ) an e-mail and you get “Page can not be displayed” How convenient that her e-mail is down.
To those objecting to calling this a “crap sandwich” …
would you rather we call it a “B…S… Special”? …
or how about a “Sewer Salad”? …
maybe a bowl of “Cow Patty Stew”? …
take your pick … no matter the name it all still stinks …
I can’t believe people buy obamas crap. We have an 700 billion to 2 trillion dollar bailout passing and Obama wants to spend 800 billion MORE on top of that and they think tax increases on the rich and a partial writhdrawal from Iraq is going to pay more all that? The debt is alread over 11 TRILLION dollars. Are democrats really this stupid??? And not matter who is in power when this all comes due, they will blame republicans. What the F$%^& is wrong with this country???
OOOOHHHHH, HAPPYSCRAPPER, they aren’t PORK or EARMARKS, they are “EXTENDERS”… That is your new word of the day… Now write it 1000 times, and use it in a sentence at least 10 times today…
happyscrapper
FYI … they added $100 Billion to the bill … not $100 Million …
Someone else linked to this a couple days ago, but this does illustrate why none of this “bailout” talk makes sense.

We need to grab every politicain in washington and beat them with a bat and with each stroke repeat…
YOU CAN NOT BORROW YOUR WAY OUT OF DEBT!!!!!
YOU CAN NOT BORROW YOUR WAY OUT OF DEBT!!!!!
YOU CAN NOT BORROW YOUR WAY OUT OF DEBT!!!!!
YOU CAN NOT BORROW YOUR WAY OUT OF DEBT!!!!!
YOU CAN NOT BORROW YOUR WAY OUT OF DEBT!!!!!
Repeat untill they get it or they resign.
I’m seeing a bit of a pattern here. If you are up for re-election, you will vote WITH the people, because you want their votes. If you are not up for re- election, you will vote AGAINST the people, because it is all about politics, not WE THE PEOPLE. Do they think we have such short memories that they are safe? Dont’ answer that!
Family Man the wife and I will do what we can to vote the lying crapweasel Simpson out of office should he bite into the turd sandwich a second time. Many people I know in the middle of nowhere Southern Idaho are talking armed rebellion and/or having to fall back to the Danskin, Soldier, or Sawtooth Moutains. If it should come to that it is going to be mighty crowded up there.
I think it’s too late for that. I’d like to join “The Reagan Party” or the “Founders” party. From the small amount I’ve seen, I’d probably go with the Constitution Party. Anything’s better than the RINO bunch we’ve got now.
Wow! I just used one of those toll free numbers (thank you tiredofito8) and got through to my rep’s office…that is Mr. Doolittle for NE Cali. I got through on the first ring (maybe he’s not all that popular?) to a real live person even. Excellent. Doolittle has gotten a lot of heat over the last year, and he might deserve it…I don’t know. But at lease someone answers his phone, and that’s a good start at Representation.
It’s a far cry from Barbara Boxer’s (or was it Feinstein’s? They really blend together in my mind…) line which rang and rang and rang before a recorded message from Herself came on explaining that I could hold if I want but would be kicked off after two minutes of inactivity.
And all of this in such a sadly patronizing voice…I can only describe her tone as the kind of voice someone uses with a four-year-old before they realize that the child is actually a person.
Again, thanks for the number!
You’re lucky. Hunter was Ann Coulter’s pick for prez. I’ve got the doddering and retiring John Warner, who (along with Robt. Byrd) is being chased with shovels wherever he goes, and the smirky, smug and belligerent Jim Webb. Of course, both voted “yay.”
I contacted the Idaho Congressmen and Bill Sali will vote against this violation of the US Constitution. Simpson is not committed, but I passed on my sentiments and reported the mood of the local population of Mountain Home, ID that the natives are restless and if he wants to retain his phony baloney job on 4 Nov 08 he will not take a second bite of the crap sandwich.
I just tried to email my Congressman and got a message that their server is not responding. Looks like they shut down communications so that they can always say that they never heard from us. Trying the phone is just as futile.
The anti-earmark candidate (McCain) just voted for the Senate bail-out bill saturated with earmarks. Apparently, there’s $197million in the bill for Puerto Rico Rum production, wool research and toy manufacturing for states of certain Senators.
The way McCain has handled his campaign, and especially this issue, the man must be deranged.
We are so screwed!
I think what we must remember is that the majority of the first “no” votes were votes of fear not of conscience. If they can either sooth the brows of their constituents or convince them that the sky is really falling, then they’ll change their votes. These phony politicians react like an open nerve in the presence of extreme cold and to plead to their good sense or conservative values is fruitless.
Are you serious??? Did I mis-read? OMG. I kind of wish you hadn’t told me.
Notice the market has already dropped precipitously this morning (Dow down more than 200). This is after the senate voted for this MOAB. It is not going to work. We are way too deep into this recession and the bad news like job reports and layoffs will overwhelm this socialistic bill.
I just called my Congressmen and told his office if he does not vote NO again on Friday I will not be giving him my vote in November!
I am so outraged and fearful for our country at the same time.
The last thing we need to give “President Obama”, if that happens, is a big shot of Socialism right out of the gate. It just gives him and his radical supporters a head start on their path to a Socialist America that we won’t recognize in 4 years.
Not to mention the fact that the “doom and gloom” that was going to happen this week without the bailout hasn’t happened.
Michelle, keep up the good work…I am so fired up to spread the truth about Obama and this bailout. I will do it on my blog and share with my friends and family and anyone else who will listen.
$100 BILLION of pork will make a bill very very fat.
happyscrapper … sorry to be the bearer of such news to ruin your day … but the CBO and the OMB are actually saying this morning that the additions will add $112B to the bill …
McCain will veto any bill with pork that comes to his desk when he is President. That of course, doesn’t mean he won’t VOTE for pork though. The garbage in this bill is unbelievable. My rep, Heather Wilson, is out no matter what, having lost a bid for Domenici’s seat. She voted for it, and will vote for it again. RINO.
Why? Have you said something inappropriate again? We forgive you.
I too wish that some of the terms had not become part of the popular lexicon, but that they have is merely a fact. I try, often fail, to not use vulgarity–unless that damn Liberal REALLY irritates me.
To quote sonofdy:
YOU CAN NOT BORROW YOUR WAY OUT OF DEBT!!!!!
YOU CAN NOT BORROW YOUR WAY OUT OF DEBT!!!!!
The United States Government exposing it self to hundreds of billions of dollars in new debt is foolish.
I just called my Rep’s local office. This time, the stats were different among callers. The staffer told me that yesterday a lot of people called “screaming and yelling that he should have supported the bailout.” Today they are having a lot more calls to oppose the bailout. As of now, he still opposes the bailout. I added my plea for him to continue to oppose this socialistic nightmare, and let the market continue to take care of itself.
“A Democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only last until the citizens discover they can vote themselves largesse out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that the Democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy, to be followed by a dictatorship, and then a monarchy.”
Ok, I’ll bite on IrishRose’s spiel.
Says Who? All I heard on Sunday was Doom! Doom! the market will FAIL! and yet Monday it didn’t even hit Recession numbers and came back more than halfway on Tuesday. The ‘market’ and Economy will survive.
If they planned so wisely, their savings wouldn’t be flying out the window. My parents are both retired and have health conditions, but my Dad was wise enough to move his risky mutual funds, stocks, 401k, etc. into stable, low return savings and Bonds a couple years before he retired, to protect them. If you plays the market (even Money Market, you takes your chances.)
Please name for me one tax increase that was limited to ‘one time’. If you read the Bill, you’ll see that Paulson has the ability to extend the program by 2 years and ask Congress for more money. If they need 700 Billion for 1 year, how much more will they need for 2 more years?
For something that you say is required for such ‘a critical time in our nation’s history’, I’d think you’d be willing to spend a little time and get it right. A little discourse and debate between Congressional Delegates and other experts could seriously improve this Bill, rather than having Congress rush to stuff it down our throats.
Congress is either borrowing the money for this or making it. Either way, the increased debt or increased inflation will be paid for by your children.
PS. I knew either you or LGM would be the first to use the ‘For The Children’ line.
This bill is a violation of the constitution. Article one clearly states that all bills with tax implications MUST be started in the House.
